Denali Cabins is often praised for its cozy atmosphere and proximity to national park attractions, offering a quaint experience with neat wooden cabins and comfy bedding. However, some guests have called out the small, sometimes uncomfortable rooms and tiny showers. The staff's friendliness and efficient shuttle service are highlights, yet opinions on value for money vary, with some finding it overpriced despite the clean amenities. While the hotel's cleanliness and dining options receive positive mentions, reviewers suggest there's room for improvement in the amenities offered.

The rooms were comfortable, yet tiny, and clean. The shower is especially miniscule, even for a small adult. Note that children over the age of 12 are considered adults, and you will be charged extra for them. They may not explain that at time of reservation.

Be sure that you ask about drinkable water. The water is rural Alaska often has an iron-y smell and look; we understand that. The rooms also have a reverse osmosis system and a spigot for clear, smell free water. One of the rooms that we reserved did not have drinkable water, which happened to be the one with our grandchildren. In addition that room had an unusually strong smell from the water that seemed to permeate everything in the room from bedding to walls, to the clothes we brought with us.

Stayed one night. Cabins are tiny with barely room to walk around and no place for even carry on sized luggage. Slowed down hill so our heads were lower than our feet. Bathroom tiny. Walls are thin so you will hear your neighbors!

Staff are helpful and friendly. Hot tubs closed. This is about 8 miles from the park road. Restaurant is ok. Smelled strongly of bleach when we went in but with opened windows it was ok.

Skip the $18 bag lunch if you are going into park on a bus, it was not that great.

Would be fine for one night if you are going into park.

We stayed at this location as part of our trip thru Alaska and our travel agent booked the accommodation for us. We might have had a different vision of cabin than what reality was for this place. We thought it would be more like cabins where we are from where you have space between them and your neighbor, your own firepit, a fridge/microwave, etc. The cabins were very basic and only had bed, bathroom with shower and TV. I could careless about the TV but fridge was important as we had meds we needed to store and had to use the ice bucket to keep them cool. The restaurant/café on site was not always open and one of the shuttle drivers was not as professional and made us uneasy during his driving. Yes it was clean there but overall we would have preferred to stay in a hotel. If you are out backpacking all day and just need a bed to crash in this would be fine. The cabin is located quite a bit off the main attraction area so walking back to the cabin was not an option and the shuttle ends early and times are limited for pickup/drop off so you really had to schedule your days in advance for any activities. The manager was nice and accommodating I just don't think this was the best fit for us.

Response from Christopher Hudson, General Manager at Denali Cabins

Arthrh22, Thanks for your response and sharing the details of your stay with future guests. We understand that there can be some challenges in staying at our location but we try to make it as easy as possible. For food we have the onsite restaurant and coffee shop and snacks in the gift shop; the shuttle you mentioned is from 7am to 10pm, which is very generous timing considering that most hotels don't provide any shuttle; the thoughts about the microwave and fridge we will consider for future improvements; despite the fact that not each cabin has a fire pit, we do have a communal fire pit, sauna and hot tubs onsite for all guests to enjoy. Despite the fact that many people enjoy the location, cabins and amenities, we understand it doesn't provide what everyone is looking for. We hope you had a great time in Alaska and wish you safe travels.

The Pursuit/Alaska Collection website looked nice so I booked. 2 night sept end of season stay, sunday afternoon arrival check before 3pm front desk told us we had cabin 43 away from the main area so quieter and closer to firepit and sauna. Make sure you book sauna as soon as you arrive its perfect way to spend an hour. I would suggest getting a room on the gravel paths and avoiding the ones on the boardwalk. 2 doubles since king wasn’t available and I’m glad we saw a king cabin and its small. Wife said right away everything was clean even the corners of the room. Looked exactly like it does on website, everything worked, as others have said there should be some kind of shelf near sink for toiletries etc. We unpacked and put empty luggage back in car to save space. We brought foam coolers from Anchorage, they have industrial sized ice machine in the front by reception and another one where they park the buses.

Selling point for us was the Denali Backcountry Adventure leaves from hotel. Great coffee shop opened 5am and we were ready for bus 6am departure.

We had dinner a Prey twice they had run out of a lot of things the first night but on the second night they had new menu with new offerings, food was great both times, and best part was we didn’t have to drive anywhere.

It’s noticeable the staffing that Pursuit hires are ALL great. In addition to Denali Cabins and Backcountry Adventure we stayed at Talkeetna Lodge and also did their Kenai Fjords boat tour from Seward. We found all staff from front desk, waiters, housekeeping, to boat crew, friendly and helpful and engaging. I would hire any of these people in a heartbeat. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Denali cabins to anyone.

The cabins need to be updated to allow more space in the living room, bathroom, toilet, and shower. My family was cramped in, we didn't sleep well and felt very uncomfortable. Even if it was just 1 person staying there, the shower would be uncomfortable to use.

Although the Denali cabins were small, particularly the bathroom, it is aligned to what I would expect for a National Parks lodging. The staff here are lovely and always so friendly and helpful. The shuttle service was great and picked us up from the train station as well as drop offs around the main areas. If it doesn’t go where you want it can still be booked for a small fee. Prey Restaurant and Bar on-site was convenient and offered a good range of meals from burgers, steak, salmon and salads plus beers and wine. A perfect way to end a busy day exploring.

Rustic rooms with functional bathrooms. This isn't glamping but it is comfortable enough. The cabins are very clean. The location is about 7 miles south of the Denali Park entrance. You can do the Doyon-Aramark park tours by driving up to the Park from here, or do a tour directly with Denali Cabins. Denali Cabins also operate a lodge inside the park which you can visit for lunch while on a day-long narrated tour in and out of the park.

We stayed here one of two nights of Denali stay to satisfy my outdoorsy wanna be (I am rather a city person) with amenities such as sauna and hot tub.

We were at the smallest (cheapest) option and it was REALLY SMALL for two adults. It was fine for one night, but that was it. Other than very small, things were pretty good. Sun blocking curtain and comfy bed helped us sleep well. We walked to the outdoor sauna unit equipped with a bucket of water (to make steam) in the field which we enjoyed, but cold water/shower would be a great addition to it. Hot tub was like home hot tub on the deck shared with other people...didn't look attractive enough for our limited time. So didn't use.

The location was pretty good. South of the national park road. Easy parking. It looked full by parking and reservation status, but it was pretty quiet and felt private.

Property was centrally located and well maintained. Restaurant was wonderful with excellent service. Unfortunately we traveled during CORVID, so much of Denali was closed. The benefit was less traffic and more wildlife, so that was a plus.

The accomadations were nice and beds comfortably. However, the cabin is not comfortable if you are traveling with teenagers or plan to share the cabin with another couple. If you want a good night sleep or space to get ready do not expect to share one cabin.

Stayed here for four nights and absolutely loved it. You get your own individual cabin, plenty of heat if it's cold, big comfortable beds, and beautiful grounds. They have two hot tubs, a real Finnish style wood-fired sauna, and an on-site restaurant (Prey) with amazing food! About 10 miles from the Park entrance, but they have a shuttle that will run you to the Visitor's Center or to neighboring areas, so you don't have to have a car (I took the train to Denali so didn't, and it was no problem). Staff was welcoming and accommodating. Couldn't be happier. Definitely 10 out of 10. I will be back for sure!

The breakfast is excellent and opens early. We had a tour where lunch was included but I’m sure they’d make you one if you’re not doing the same tour we did. Standard cabins are very small so no fridge or microwave. I travel with a kettle so I can make my own drinks
