Nice campground with a host on site. Vault toilets and potable water, but no showers or sinks. We stayed in loop A. There was no electricity so it was nice and quiet. We enjoyed the ranger program in the evening. Easy walk from campground to amphitheater for the program. Wonderful night sky.

One can spend a couple of hours or several days here. A half day can give you a good sense of the place. Don't miss the free movie at the ranger station, and the information which will tell you which of the 21 viewing stops are the must-sees!

We stayed in the non electric loop. The sites are large with large dense shrubs separating most of them. Deer often wandered through the area with little to no regard for people. Hiking available from all loops down to the ranger center and beyond.

We stayed in Loop B and found the entire campground to be exceptionally clean. Our neighbors were quiet, although we were gone exploring for most of each day. The campground sits on top of a high mesa, with very large scrub oak, tall grass, and mountain lupine, which was in bloom during our stay. They had evening programs right across... More

This was our first time and we were impressed. We took the South Rim and pulled into several overlooks, most were a little hike. Views were impressive. We did take the Walker Point hike but it was 95 so the short views were a better option.

The Black Canyon is spectacular. We arrived mud morning, hiked a trail, watched the 20 minute documentary in the visitors center, had lunch and walked a second trail before heading out. Wish we had more time to explore, but we WILL be back.

Spectacular views on the rim and short hikes out. There are a few improved / short trails worth exploring. From what I've seen, the best views are from the rim. Those willing to venture to the river have short but difficult hikes. Most planned on camping below and fly fishing. Campgrounds were clean with fire rings, picnic tables and nearby... More

This canyon is very different then the Grand Canyon and a must see. It is a place of rugged beauty and fearsome heights. When climbing up the winding road to the South entrance of the canyon, don't miss the spectacular, beautiful scenery that lays around you. The Canyon itself is to be taken in with much care and caution, it... More

The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is one of those little known parks between Montrose and Gunnison, CO. It offers spectacular views of 2000 plus foot drop-offs in a volcanic area. You can do an auto tour, and occasionally get out at the sites that don't have to be hiked in, if you are not a hiker. If you are... More

We spent 2 days at this park and loved every minute of our time even though we had rain off and on during the period we were there. Took a lot of pictures of canyon and did the road trip twice and stopped at every pull off and hiked in the the view points. Took a side trip down the... More
