The first thing that stands out about Lulaliya is its proximity to Ishigaki’s famous Kabira Bay: it’s less than a five minutes’ walk from the landmark, and that alone makes it worthwhile to book. However, it offers so much more! I stayed three nights with a friend, and we found that it was a perfect place to kick up our heels while staying on Ishigaki. The rooms are cozy and well-furnished, and have everything you might want. On the first floor, there is a spacious café/eating area. Here, you can enjoy the house breakfast (for an extra fee), or even buy breakfast from another place (the nearby bakery, for instance) and bring it back. You can also use it in the evening as a lounge if you’d like to hang out, but don’t want to stay in your room. My friend and I ate birthday cake there! Hot water for tea/coffee and cold water for drinking are available around the clock. The proprietor, Aya, is very friendly, has excellent English, and can help you book any tours you may want. She booked us a wonderful all-day snorkeling/kayaking tour, and helped us shape our days on the island. She was a delight to talk to, and could help us hammer out our plans at the drop of a hat. She’ll introduce you to the nearby restaurants and their hours, which is good—every day, there’s at least one place that’s closed, so it’s good to be careful of. The hotel is also very close to the bus stop, which is another bonus: Ishigaki doesn’t have too many buses, but the Kabira Bay hub is one of the ones where more of them come and go from. We found Lulaliya a great base of operations, and I would stay again in a heartbeat.

We really enjoyed staying at Lulaliya. Clean room, nice location and the most wonderful staff. All spoke English, and especially Ai always made sure we felt welcome, gave us restaurant recommendations and asked about our day. Location is a lot closer to most tourist attractions compared to Ishigaki city. The longest drive we had was to the light tower up north, and took 50 minutes. We can only recommend!

The couple running this Guest House were so kind. They went above and beyond to help my friend and me. It was in walking distance to the beach and some shopping. The room was simple and clean. I would definitely want to stay here again. Cozy place with nice atmosphere. I was able to speak English. I liked their guest book and I read some really heartwarming notes from people. I loved that they asked guests to put a pin on the map from where each guest is from. I hope I get to return one day.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for three nights in May and had a wonderful stay. The room was clean and fairly basic, but what made this stay so special was the hospitality of our host, Ai. She provided us with excellent information about the area, offering beach and snorkeling recommendations as well as many details about the food options in the area. She also prepared a delicious breakfast for us upon request. Lulaliya is in the heart of Kabira Bay and is an extremely convenient location to the best snorkeling beaches on the island, particularly Yonehara beach. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to get away from it all.

When looking for a hotel in Ishigaki, I read all the positive reviews about Lulaliya. The photos showed me a cozy and romantic place to stay and that was for me the reason to book this hotel. It was said that there would be an English host. When arriving, I found out that nobody speaks English here. Only some basic words, but for the rest is communication not possible. The rooms are neat and tidy, quite spacious as well. But the bed is so hard, the blankets are terrible (you cannot even call them blankets!), rooms will not be cleaned during your stay, the water of the shower is cold (unless you know that there is a switch for hot water (nobody told us this so the first night we had a cold shower), there is no breakfast, you have to ask for new towels yourself and we even had to throw away the trash ourselves (they don't empty the trash bins). If you are used to stay in a hostel, this would probably be an okay stay. If you are used to hotels, I don't recommend this place at all. Wifi connection is okay and location as well. But that's it.
