I found this review hard to write as I wanted to give Goldsborough Hall a 5 but just couldn’t. Firstly the negatives: We stayed at the hotel for my husbands birthday as a treat. Prior to arriving I was emailed the check in documents which I completed and returned. It was explained this would make check in on arrival at the hotel quicker because of covid...it didn’t! We sat in the library and were told by the lady who greeted us “the rules”. I appreciate these are difficult times for staff but there was no warm welcome! I heard the same rehearsed speech to all the guests who checked in that afternoon. The staff appeared a bit all over the place and not very together as a team. It wasn’t very friendly or professional and kind of left me feeling a bit flat when I had been looking forward to the stay. On a plus note the lady who usually worked in the back office who showed us to our room was lovely and chatty. Mario was also friendly and helpful. The shower was very awkward to work and not hot which was disappointing. The bathroom was quite worn in places and was not 5* standard compared to some of the previous 5* hotels we have stayed in such as Rudding park just down the road! The plus points: The tasting menu was excellent. I had the vegetarian tasting menu and my husband had the standard tasting menu. I found the vegetarian menu very well thought out and very tasty. We also did the wine flight which we enjoyed. The breakfast was very good on the morning. I think the food quality carries the reputation of the hotel and is probably why people would return or do return. We heard lots of positive comments on the food from other guests we chatted to, well done Chef! The room was lovely and looked over the well kept gardens. It was bright and spacious and we slept very well. I just felt the hotel was lacking something which is unfortunate. Little touches go a long way and examples such as not to even acknowledging someone’s special occasion is a big shame as other reviews have previously mentioned. I don’t think the above negatives were down to covid as we have just spent 2 days at a hotel in the lakes and they gave a very warm welcome, worked together well and made guests feel very welcome under the same circumstances.

Sunning setting, great service and the food is spectacular. After years of following Goldsborough Hall on social media, decided to take my family member for afternoon tea. We sat outside on the terrace as we had our 2 westies. Highly recommend this place! We will be back to stay at some point in the near future.

Luxurious room, delicious food, helpful staff and, in these present times, every effort had been made to ensure guest safety. This was our first visit but will definitely not be our last as it may just have become our favourite choice for special occasions.....

Stayed recently for a covid delayed 65th birthday. Room in the rear extension was reasonably sized and warm after we managed to to work the heating. A trifle dark because of the rear retaining wall, but very private. Had the tasting menu both evenings, and the pescatarian and vegetarian food was, quite frankly amongst the best meals we have ever had, with very good wine pairings. Service was sensibly paced, and restaurant staff very good, friendly and down to earth... as indeed were all staff Ambience excellent and a very relaxing set of rooms. Wonderful grounds Would be happy to return for a special occasion

Enjoyed three nights in the Byerley suite at the top of this historic house with panoramic views over the glorious garden. The food was superb. The five course tasting menu with paired wines was delicious and beautifully presented. The stand out dishes were the roasted dry aged duck, roasted venison and the Yakitori glazed swede (elevating a root vegetable to amazing heights). This grand building has a comfortable, homely vibe. So spacious that Covid-19 precautions were unobtrusive. Many thanks to all the staff for being so helpful and personable.
