The title says it all really. The closest and most convenient night stay you will get as a guest. Right on the front of the Cove. Another plus being the pool overlooking the cove as well. Great time spent their. The rooms are a tiny bit dated and need some tlc in some places, but all in all a positive... More

We stayed over the weekend in one of the attic rooms and we were happy with the hotel. We came to walk the coastal path from Lulworth to Weymouth, stayed Friday and Saturday night and caught the bus back to Lulworth from Weymouth. The attic rooms are budget rooms so the furnishings and decor are tired and need updating, but... More

We booked a table for food as we we staying nearby. We both had the lobster and a bottle of wine. The lobster was fresh and tasty. The staff were very helpful and thanks to Tim for his company outside under the lovely olive tree (300 years old - the tree and not Tim !!). Table nicely set with candles... More

The room looked good Nice airy spacious The bed was wonderfully comfortable! But when you looked more closely all was not good Sash Windows did not open - only 3 out of 6 did A blind came away from the wall and crashed onto me as I raised it The washbasin was so small water ran onto the floor when... I have always been a huge fan of Faulty Towers, but Sybil was not my favourite character, so I will take this as a compliment. Lots of niggely points were raised and it would be impolite not to comment on these. The wash basin is not particularly small but of a modern design - slim but wide. The windows have... More

Two night stay with dinner at the hotel on the first night. The room (Bar room) was good and very comfortable but there is a step up to the bed and down into the bathroom that might cause problems for some. Breakfast very good and pool outstanding. A few minor issues. The current manager was a bit ambivalent about our... More

Thank you for those (mostly!) kind words. It is worth taking up the dog friendly point which is raised. I must first apologise if I came across as "a bit ambivalent". My personal stance has changed recently after I was bitten on the hand by a guest's dog at the entrance to the bar - a one-off I know but... More

Visited today, not for the first time go on a couple of occasions per year, myself, 8 month old son, 6 year old, friend and 8 year old border collie stopped for a drink after being down in the cove. Ordered 1 lemonade, 1 half local cider (yuk) and 1 glass of wine and it cost a whopping £14! We... More

I am aware of this occurrence but was not there in person. I did however take a phone call from the reviewer's husband who was not present either. Apologies were offered by me for the apparent offence caused but none from him for the disturbance caused by the dog. He did however agree that there was no need to take... More

We chose Bishops as we thought the menu looked great and the food sounded a cut above the normal and we wanted a nice lunch. I love bouillabaiise and that was the main reason for choosing Bishops. However, what was served to me certainly was not Bouillabaisse. Even the waiter described it as fish soup when he set it down... More

We are always disappointed when we hear that guests have had a poor experience. The bouillabase is universally popular and you are the first complaint we have had about it. Your description of it is untrue and frankly offensive. It is very fish concentrated and has gone down well even with our French guests. With regard to price, I can... More

My husband, son and I were staying in West Lulworth for a week. We looked up the local restaurants on Trip Advisor and decided to dine at the higher rated establishments. SADLY THE WEATHER WAS COLD WINDY AND WET BUT THIS DID NOT SPOIL OUR ENJOYMENT of this lovely hotel. Our room was over the bar and overlooking the wonderful walk up to Durdle Door. Stayed at Bishops which is rated 4 star. Had to stay in the attic rooms which were cheaper but had assumed still 4 star. As a matter of fact I do have to point out that the 4 star rating applies specifically to the suites and not to budget rooms which is what you chose. This is clear on the website. You did not HAVE to stay in the Attic room as you infer. Your other comments are not entirely fair as the lock... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Bishops, once the home of the Wordsworths (Bishops of Salisbury), stands on the edge of the Cove and is sheltered by Bindon Hill. Originally two cottages and dates back to 1650’s one of the oldest buildings in the village, the extensions and additions have been made with care and the building is one of the architectural features of Lulworth. The gardens overlook the beautiful Lulworth Cove and there is a large swimming pool for our guests. Bishops is on the cliff top of the world heritage Jurassic coastline at Lulworth Cove and the famous Durdle Door. Close by the stunning Studland Bay and shores of Sandbanks and Poole harbour. The countryside is ideally placed for exploring Thomas Hardy’s Wessex, The Isle of Purbeck, Corfe Castle, Swanage and Wareham a Saxon town. ... more   less
