We had a wonderful experience at sacromonte. The landscape is breathtaking, and the architecture is very impressive. Edmond and his staff made us feel right at home. I made a reservation directly from their website and it took a little while to get confirmation (so be patient), if you are renting a car try to get an SUV, we made it fine with a sedan we rented at Carrasco Airport in Montevideo, about a 2-hour drive, but part of the road is not in the best shape. Once you get to the property, you’ll get an electric cart to drive around. The shelters have a decent sized kitchen, a minibar and kitchenware if you like to cook something simple, they also have a wine bottle cooler. You must try their great wine! but you drink a lot of wine like me, can take some of your own bottles (theirs is sold for US$40). Ironically, the hot tub didn’t have a heather, but they say they are working on it and they are also working on a sustainable water treatment, the tubs are filled with spring water which develops an alga and makes the water color a bit greenish. Back to the landscape, the shelters have amazing views of the wine yards, there are horses roaming around freely, relatively easy hiking trails, a creek and impressive night skies (as there are no urban areas around). Edmond even setup his telescope one night for us. Saturday’s lunch at the plateau table (located near the top of one of the hills) is an amazing experience, the food is delicious and grilled on a traditional Uruguayan BBQ pit with sacromonte’s wine to go with it (for an extra charge). As in most hotels, the breakfast doesn’t change much from one day to the next one. They always have freshly baked bread. Can’t wait to go back.
