Shaxi Aoding Courtyard was built completely in line with traditional Bai architectural style, with courtyards and carefully arranged details and garden. The founder has further improved two common nuisances in traditional Bai constructions: poor ventilation and sound insulation. Now at Shaxi Aoding Courtyard, guests will enjoy sound and undisturbed sleep and dreams as legend in Shaxi has promised.

My wife and I are 2 int’l teachers who were stuck traveling in China for the '21 summer and we stayed here 1 night. The location is super close to walk and explore the ancient town. The little hotel is full of courtyards and quaint sitting areas. Our room was impressive, large and clean. We were on the 1st floor and would have enjoyed the 2nd floor so we wouldn’t have to hear footsteps. My wife enjoyed the very comfortable bed, modern bathroom and strong water pressure. We did both dinner and breakfast. The chef was eager to cater to our vegetarian ways and neither meal disappointed. Excellent place to stay in Shaxi!!

Stayed here during the national week. Really clean place in a traditional. Oriental courtyard style. A one up an expert on the area (knows the best places to eat and stay, even recommended eats and stays for our next stops: tiger leaping gorge and Shangri-La). The restaurant here also cooks up great dinner! (We enjoyed the pork ribs and the potato pancake).

This was one of the nicest hotels we have found during our travels in China. It is a smaller hotel with large rooms surrounding a lovely courtyard. Hotel opened in 2007 and everything is clean and in great condition. It is very peaceful so we slept well. It is a family run business, and the owner speaks excellent english. There is a small restaurant that we enjoyed for both dinner and breakfast. All the food was wonderful. The french toast and coffee at breakfast were especially noteworthy. Menus are both in English and Chinese on an electronic tablet, so ordering is easy. Hotel is just a few minutes walk to the center of Shaxi, so it was easy to explore the town.

We stayed at the Aoding Courtyard for two nights towards the end of a two week trip through Yunnan province. The rooms are beautifully renovated and decorated, and the bed was the most comfortable one of our trip - we slept like babies! The food was delicious, with both local and Western options. (I'll confess, as much as we love the Yunnan cuisine, it was such a nice change of pace to have some French toast one morning!)
Dahua and his family are amazing hosts and took great care of us during our stay. He's very knowledgeable about the region, culture, and history. We wished we could have stayed longer and we're already thinking about returning next year...

We could have happily spent a week in this lovely boutique hotel! This courtyard hotel is spacious, clean, attractive, and a quiet respite from the busy streets of Shaxi. It is centrally located and within easy walking distance of the historic center of town and local markets. The owner and his family were welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable, offering to do our laundry and sharing samples of baijiu, the local alcohol. The meals at the hotel were delicious! The hotel has a full bar, which is a rare find in this area. Our room had an outside patio with views of the nearby mountains. Highly recommended!

The rooms are charming (in a modern Chinese style), spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet - in a renovated, classically designed house with lovely courtyards. Centrally located in this sleepy town -- which has a pleasant ambiance but not a lot to see. Stayed overnight between Dali and Lijiang, and that left plenty of time to wander, look at local crafts and relax. Good western breakfast; dinner at the hotel restaurant was fine, but not as tasty as many other places I ate at during my 2 week trip. Owner very helpful.

Very cosy and charming hotel. Clean and complete with all facilities. Close to the city center and to the weekly local market. Excellent staff, very polite and professional. The manager speaks a good English. Amazing typical food. I recommend it.

We stayed only 1 night in this guest house and wished it could've been longer. Great place, huge room and excellent shower and breakfast. I had my own courtyard too. Excellent wifi and the people were lovely. Loved Shaxi and would highly recommend this place.
