Room truly awful In parts could not stand up in bedroom or bathroom. Window too high so no view. Double bed was large single, mattress old. Could not turn air-conditioning unit or switch pad off at night so had multi flashing lights all night. Room fit for storage only

Unpretentious, good attention to detail, simple menu based on quality local ingredients, really good well trained staff, very quiet and charming. All this plus great value for money results in an excellent experience shared by guests of all nationalities.

Nice hotel with a great pool, especially as it was around 34 degrees while we were there. Unfortunately the air con in our room couldn't cope but we managed to sleep with window and door open to provide through draught.

We stayed in this charming hotel with a unique "in the middle of nowhere" atmosphere on our way to the Dordogne. You can stroll through the flowered gardens or sit and enjoy the stillness and hear nothing but the bees. A tidy sized swimming pool is a welcome refreshing experience if you`ve been driving a long distance and the food...

We were delighted with our brief stay in this lovely hotel in open countryside, en route to the Dordogne. Very friendly and efficient staff, good food and pleasant rooms in character filled buildings and lovely gardens (if you like hollyhocks!).

Tranquil and pleasant, our family room was perfect. The food was nice although not a great deal of choice for the evening meal. Overall a lovely stay on our way south through France, well recommended.

The food was excellent especially knowing that the produce is sourced locally thus contributing to sustaining local businesses. The environment was exceptionally clean and the bedroom very comfortable.

We made an overnight stop at this hotel on the way back north and though it was difficult to find we were very pleased with the accommodation and the hotel grounds. Our room was excellent with a comfortable bed, decent bathroom and air con. The gardens were lovely and the pool was a pleasant find. The only down side was...

Very quiet place. Friendly stuff. Good Wi-Fi, fresh breakfast. Parking, pool, table tennis and so on. The view from the hotel is amasing. We were very pleased to stay here. The hotel also has a good wine selection

Situated in the middle of the country overlooking fields - beautiful cottage gardens including a large vegetable garden which serves the restaurant. We had a lovely room with a small terrace. We had booked to eat there and it was very good although out of season was maybe a bit too quiet and hushed! The staff were discreet and kept...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Did you know that French philosopher Rene Descartes once lived in Poitou-Charentes, more specifically in Availles-en-Chatellerault? His handsome 15th-century residence is now a lovely, distinctive hotel from which guests can admire the square pigeon house that gave the property its name, L'HOTEL LE PIGEONNIER DU PERRON. The peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside is a boon to the 12 rooms and 2 suites. They are full of charm with their parquetry and understated decor. Many have a slightly rustic style with stones and exposed beams. But the modernity and comfort of the furniture places them squarely in our century. They are all equipped with a shower or bathtub and an LCD flat screen TV with DTT. Some also have a telephone, Wifi, air conditioning, a DVD player, hairdryer, and/or heated towel rack. The dining room is warm and also reveals signs of the past, creating a unique setting where guests savour traditional cooking prepared with seasonal products, particularly fresh vegetables. The garden at Le Pigeonnier du Perron is a splendid venue with authentic charms. You can take your breakfast here, or laze around the pool, play table tennis or shoot hoops. You will be much better off here than on the beaches of Charente-Maritime! Because Availles-en-Chatellerault is near Poitiers and Chatellerault, you will undoubtedly leave this hotel in Poitou-Charentes for long enough to visit the Futuroscope as well as the Moulin de Chitre, Chateau de Dissay, the Descartes Home and Museum, and the Pinail Nature Reserve. European Eco label. Qualite Tourisme label. Seminars. Family friendly. Access for guests with reduced mobility. Quiet destination. Car park. No pets allowed in restaurant. ... more   less

“Duck when you walk past the end of the bed lest you hit your head on the shelf supporting a smal flatscreen TV. Position yourself carefully in the toilet not to bang your head or burn yourself on the radiator. The serviettes they provide as bath sheets would hardly cover your modesty. No drinks facilities provided in the room and no bar downstairs. ”
