I am not amazed that this beautiful place won the award for the Best New Small luxury Hotel in Europe, for 2012.
The trip to Crete would not be that amazing if I had made another choice. The proximity to so many different and unique places was the key element of our journey. This beautiful boutique hotel is placed at the heart of a small Cretan village, in the middle of Siteia, Ierapetra & Agios Nikolaos. You definitely need a car but it is worth renting. The proximity of the parking was a little problem, but once you get there you forget it. The view to the sea is amazing and it is lovely that we had so many different options on what beach to choose. It was the first time I went to Greece, I had no idea that you can find so many beautiful beaches, each one next to the other.
We had the luck to see amazing places, especially in South Crete, a place that is not touristic, it is virgin and unexplored. I would go back just to visit once again the Chrissi island, the most beautiful place I ever been in my life.
The facilities of the hotel are more than satisfying. Our room was magnificent; we had a room of 4 beds with 2 bathrooms and 1 kitchen at the price of a double room. The furniture is a mix of modern and traditional items. Ok, this is a matter of personal taste, but it was like the way I had imagined it. The room was very spacey, clean, with big comfortable mattresses and pillows. The toilette was very clean, in accordance with my cleaning-freakiness. We had a spacey living room and many many closets.
The view from the restaurant is AMAZING and the food is based on Mediterranean & Greek recipes. You can actually taste the freshness of the materials.
The spa is unique, beautiful (so relaxing) and it is ideal for couples. You can ask for a private booking of the whole spa & you can spend the whole night in there ;-) Please enjoy!!!
Last but not least, I would like to mention that the heart of this hotel is its people!!! I still keep in touch with 2 of the staff. The owners of the hotel are so cool and they were there 24/7, for all our crazy demands!

I am pleased to say that my stay at the Cressa Ghitonia was an amazing experience! My wife and I, wanted to experience the beauty of eastern Crete so we picked this traditional boutique hotel and had the most amazing time! Cressa Ghitonia has combined a modern and a traditional feeling which derives from the historic neighborhood that was renovated in order to create this beautiful boutique hotel! The rooms have a modern/traditional sense and carry amazing decorations! We stayed at the Euterpe Studio and enjoyed the amazing view! Also the dining was outstanding offering traditional cretan recipes and the staff was charming and attentive. If you want to really enjoy the freedom and beauty of eastern Crete Cressa Ghitonia is the place to go, especially if you want to explore all the beauties of eastern Crete.

Wa stayed 2 nights in the room called "thalia house" which disapointed us a lot for many reasons : first, the room has no windows, during the morning the smell coming from the bathroom is quite annoying. And the main trouble : no soundproofing at all with the room above us making our wake up very early ! It is true that the view and the restaurant are very nice , it is true as well that we cant juge the other room but at the end we find this place overquoted !

My husband and I visited this beautiful boutique hotel looking to find something quiet and pretty to start our vacation. We were so wonderfully surprised to experience one of the most unique and special places we have ever stayed. Located in a very pretty traditional village, the hotel feels both exotic and extremely comfortable. We loved our dinner and breakfast there, and our room was cozy, modern, clean, and perfectly decorated. Amazing and friendly staff all in a very casual atmosphere. Next time we will come back for longer!

We arrived at the hotel at night and we could not see properly where we where at. The morning after when we woke up and saw such a beautiful views of the esatern Cretan mountains we were really amazed. Apart from that, the hotel is unique in style, decorated as a small Greek village with a beautiful terrace, swimming pool, a lovely chill-out area and a cozy restaurant. The service is excellent, they really go beyond the "call of duty".
You can truly feel the typical Cretan experience in Cressa Ghitonia!

I just got back from a short 5 day holiday at Cressa Ghitonia with a friend. This hotel is EXACTLY what we wanted. We were welcomed with open arms and a snack made for us because we had arrived to late.

Location: The hotel is in the middle of a small village, a short walk from the car park (uphill!). It is about a 1.5 hour drive from the airport Heraklion. Closest beach is about 20 minute drive, small town called Mochos. Not very much in the village, so this is the closest place to go to restaurants and to the beach.

Getting around: most people hire a car but we got a taxi which turned out to be an expensive option but we didn't feel we needed a car. We got taxis and did a tour one day which set off from Sitia, a larger town, 45 minutes bus ride away.

Amenities: the hotel is beautiful with the most stunning views and sunsets. The spa is amazing, small pool with only 3 sun loungers but its all you need to cool off and all the rooms have a private terrace anyway. The rooms are spacious and clean, comfy beds, good AC and all beautifully individual.

Staff: all amazing. So attentive and helpful, they made the effort to go the extra mile for my friends birthday meal. Thank you for everything!

Food and drink: the breakfast was buffet/a la carte, plenty of choice and all nice with a bit of variation. Dinner was a la carte, fairy small menu but enough! The chocolate suffle was incredible! Drinks as you would expect, not too expensive, lovely little bar with a view.

I cant recommend this place enough, thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Pros:

+The room is big and very clean.

+The sorroundings are indeed traditional since you live in a "cretan village".

+The bed was very comfortable and the AC has done a great job.

+The view is absolutely fantastic: you can enjoy a romantic sunset with seaview.

Cons:

- Note that the "traditional" part comes at a price: you have to lift your luggage on an uphill narrow path for about 50 m. I know it does not sound much but when you haven 40kg+ baggage you will definitely not enjoy the heavy lifting (note that the pavement is not that good to roll the luggage). Parking it at about 150m from the Hotel which is perfect if you don't have luggage with you. The hotel would need to find a solution and help the guests with this problem.

- The breakfast (at least the not sweet part) could be way more diverse. Although it offers fresh meals (special omelets, fried eggs etc.) it takes forever to receive them and they usually come at the very end (after ~15-20 minutes) when you may be full from the buffet.

- Although the staff is polite and friendly, they are as friendly as they should be. You do not get the "traditional cretan spirit" that we noticed at other hotels. Unfortunately we did not get any "Insider tips / recommendations" from them. We did get some from local shops located at 30 min away to find out that one village away from the hotel is the cretan oldest olive tree (3250 years).

- Contacting them is a little bit hard. We were traveling for a special occasion (Honeymoon) and i wanted to surprise my wife with a romantic dinner. I tried to contact the hotel > 1 month in advance via email without any success. I tried again through a booking.com message and i got a very short and cold reply. Other hotel that we we stayed in during our honeymoon, were way more involved in making you celebrate this special occasion. Moreover, during the check-in at the hotel there was a special bullet point regarding special occasions (Honeymoons, Wedding anniversaries etc.). We checked it and nobody seemed to consider it. At least a warm "Congratulations!" would have been nice.

- No attention to the little things. We had breakfast daily and the breakfast staff still did not know which room number we are in. Note that the hotel has 15 rooms.

Dear Guest, We would like to thank you for taking the time posting your review on the net. We are committed to work on our weak spots as mentioned in your text. We are focusing on providing best quality hospitality combined with the Cretan Atmosphere which was absent during your stay, even if few points are deeply subjective and -why not- malicious. None the less we will be very happy having you here as a guest to catch up everything was missed in the first place. Kind Regards, Cressa Ghitonia Team.

The staff was so kind to give us a superior room instead of a normal one, because we liked to sleep in separate beds. The room was amazing!
We had half board and the dinner was delicious and very generous.

Not right there -- the "town" is mostly just residential with a big church. At the intersection with the main road (which is maybe a 15 minute walk down/up) there are a few little restaurants. But if you drive (too long for a walk) all the way down the hill to the shoreline you will hit Mochlos, which is a totally charming little seaside town with a pretty bustling night life. you will definitely need a car -- maybe 15 minute drive down (not so far, but you have to drive slowly). Lots of other things nearby too.
