Travelers' Choice
Sprawling over the rolling plains north of Mt Kenya, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is a prolific wildlife conservancy that is popular with celebrities, conservationists, writers and photographers. Lewa found recent media attention with stories of a Royal romance and the fairytale engagement that followed. Visitors to Lewa are privy to some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing that Kenya has to offer: lion, leopard and jackal thrive on the rich diversity of prey that inhabits the area. The Wildlife Conservancy is home to the largest concentration of Grevy’s zebra in the world, and its range of habitats attracts diverse birdlife and hosts over 200 Black and White rhino.

A really disappointing stay at Elewana Lewa Safari camp. This trip started on a negative note with the manager hoarding two big groups into the main area to discuss the rules of the camp - Covid 19 social distancing not thought of nor was there the personalised touch that I expect when going to similar lodges. The chef and staff did try to accommodate our food requests but again not up to the standard we expected. The tents were also disappointing - in need of an upgrade. We arranged a walking safari with explicit agreement that it would be in the conservancy with a ranger. They subsequently drove us to the conservancy gate where we picked up the ranger to go walk on a public road outside the conservancy. Even writing this now, I still can’t believe it. Walking safaris should not be advertised if you will have to leave the conservancy and go on a public road! We had also booked a day out to Ngare Ndare but the camp cancelled this the night before due to some drizzle and then lied saying it was cancelled by Ngare Ndare. They also cancelled the morning game drive due to some rain the night before - unheard of!! I have never experienced this and I have travelled all over Kenya and the world. If it was due to any type of danger such as washed out roads etc then I would accept but it was literally a drizzle more than 12 hours before a scheduled game drive. After we escalated these complaints the camp organised a superb bush lunch which was really lovely- such a shame that we had to experience such a dreadful time to get this. The camp can do better and it should for the prices being paid. Despite this trip ending on a high, I will certainly be taking a break from the Elewana brand as they really need to up their game if they still want to charge in the same bracket as their competitors. There are far better options out there.

Dear Nadine I'm so very sorry to read this review. I have chatted at great length with the managers who were in camp during your stay. We are normally known for our exceptional attention to detail, and we regret that we did not meet your expectations. Having learnt from this, we have taken steps to have another open area to receive guest in the event two groups arrive at the same time as was the case in this incident, to be able to give a more personal touch to the welcome and briefing. As I'm sure you can appreciate there have been challenges in setting up walks as we require an armed ranger to accompany our guests to ensure their safety. Sadly, due to the terrible effects of COVID-19 the number of rangers available to us has been affected, however, we are working to rectify this. Again with the other excursions that you mentioned, we are looking into how we can ensure that guests are not let down. We are delighted that you enjoyed the bush lunch. The experiences around organisation on this particular trip should not be taken as a reflection of the entire brand. We do apologise and we will continue to look into every element raised. Regards The Elewana Collection

Property's Favorite Review
My wife and I recently had the pleasure of spending three wonderful nights at Lewa Safari Camp. The camp is located in a relatively remote section of the conservancy, which makes for a peaceful and relaxed setting. The safari tents and camp lodge are spacious and well-appointed. The camp also includes a comfortable "hide," overlooking a small waterhole. It was fun, between morning and afternoon game drives, to grab a drink and head down to the hide to look for wildlife. Our game drive experience at Lewa was excellent. Our guide, Alex, was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the wildlife; it was truly a pleasure to venture out with him each day. We had excellent viewing opportunities for the Big 5, as well as the endangered Grevy's zebra. The scenery at Lewa is also beautiful; it was amazing to view the wildlife, with Mount Kenya looming on the horizon!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us in our little piece of paradise, we like to think of ourselves as an old style tented camp which gives our guests a true sense of being at one with nature, yet at the same time ensuring you are comfortable and feel at home during your stay. Our hide is in such a lovely position, with a beautiful view through the valley, and fortunately with a natural spring which attracts many different animals. We are glad that you found the time to wander down there with a drink. We are very proud to have Alex as part of our team, his knowledge and passion for the area and our wildlife is admirable. How fantastic that you viewed the Big 5 while in Lewa as well as our beautiful Grevy's zebra which is one of our northern specials. Lewa is a stunning conservancy and the majestic Mount Kenya only adds to its beauty! We hope you had a good trip back home and that you are sharing all your stories and photographs with your family and friends. We look forward to welcoming you back to Lewa soon! Best regards Sacha, Tamlyn, Alex and the rest of the Lewa Safari Camp family

I have been visiting Lewa Safari Camp every year for many years. It's my slice of heaven on earth. It's luxury camping with everything you could dream of having. The staff is extraordinary and the game drives are the best anywhere in Kenya. The guides at Lewa are #1 in Kenya & this past trip was my 40th trip to Lewa. All the comforts of home. I felt like a Princess because the staff was so friendly & helpful.

We stayed at Lewa safari camp for 3 nights, from the moment we arrived the staff were brilliant, our tent, which doesn't do it justice, was immaculate as were all the amenities. The food is first class but, the real highlight are the game drives, we've been to several conservancies in Kenya but here, it's another level. Can't fault anything about the place and must mention Ruth and Winifred the ladies looking after us during our stay, fantastic and John our guide was knowledgeable and extremely patient. Beautiful place, wonderful people.

This place did not disappoint!! The accommodations were amazing. The beds were soft, always hot water all while still giving you that camping feel. Loved being awakened every morning by hearing birds or elephants in the distance. The food was phenomenal! Always more than enough. The chef outdoes himself every meal. ( And there's always dessert) We had a blast on the game drives! Our guide George had us laughing! He made our days! He was very personable and very informative. We learned alot about the animals and nature! Sasha and Tamlyn (the managers ) and the entire team are the best. They treat you like you are part of the family ❤️ Truly a hidden gem of a place! This place is doing great things for conservation and the community!!
