3.0 star rating 12/1/2017 This is an older hotel, but in an excellent location. Hotel Naniwa is just 5 minute walk from Dontonburi. If you want to stay in this area, there's always something to do and see. Grabbing a taxi is only a 2 minute walk if you don't want to walk to the subway station. (Namba Station is about 12 minutes away by foot) I stayed in a room with 2 twin beds and for Japan, it's quite spacious. My favorite feature of the room is the shower. The water pressure was strong and the area you shower/bathe in is big. Staff are really friendly and helpful. This is an older hotel, but in an excellent location. We read all the reviews before booking this hotel - so we didn't expect a whole lot. Location was absolutely fantastic, staff were great .... and that's about where it all ends! Must say that the "traditional room" we booked for the kids (3 of them shared a room) was quaint and quite fun for them. Except that the mattresses on the floor were remarkably thin and a bit uncomfortable. Otherwise the size of the room was good and sliding door between bathroom and bedroom was helpful. My wife and I had a basic double room on a different floor - not brilliant. The double bed was creaky, the pillows soft and uncomfortable, there's a big step to get into the bathroom, the decor was quite old and dated, overall it was a very modest and basic amenity. But the price reflects that, so no complaints there. Convenience stores and local restaurants all nearby, so easy to get food. Train station is about 10-15 minutes walk away. Dotombori Street nearby but INCREDIBLY crowded!! Never seen so many people in one street before. It was almost claustrophobic trying to navigate a walk through the street. Ridiculous queues for everything from street food to toilets! Not sure if this is only during the holiday periods, but it was insane. Back to hotel - you get what you pay for, let's be frank. If I had a choice, I may have chosen somewhere else for a little bit more money. Last thing on a positive note - they had the cheapest coin laundry that we came across anywhere in our travels (two thumbs up!).

My family and I stayed in Hotel Naniwa for 6 nights in June 2016. Overall, we had an extremely comfortable stay. The service was excellent. The lady staff who attended to us when we checked-in on 14 June (morning) was extremely helpful and polite. She was able to converse in English too. Her service was immaculate. The family room was cosy as well. They provided all the key amenities needed for a comfortable stay. One of the best things about staying here is its location! We were able to walk to Dotonbori (5 mins), Shinsaibashi (10 mins) and Namba Station (15 mins). Overall, I am very pleased with the hotel and will definitely come here again!

The pictures of this place all show their cool traditional style rooms and claim that its right on the canal, but when we got here it was a block away from the canal with no view of it in sight and they had no traditional rooms available. Instead, they gave us a room that was typical of a cheap business hotel in Japan - stiff as a board bed, filthy in the places they were too lazy to clean, and with no amenities to speak of besides the terrible at best free wifi (even the cheap hotels in Japan tend to supply towels, shampoo, and conditioner at least - all we got was "soap"). I love Japan - I come here all the time and am very familiar with the average hotel in this country. But with that being said, for the rather pricey one night stay, I expected this hotel to be a little closer to what was advertised. Also this hotel is very far from the nearest station. About 15 minute walk from Namba Station if you're coming from Shin-Osaka on the Shinkansen. Walking in Japan for 15 minutes isn't bad at all, but when I'm looking for hotels I would rather be closer to the station to avoid dragging luggage around in the heat for 15 minutes on busy streets. If this place was more convenient in regards to the station or if it was actually on the canal, I wouldn't really be complaining. I'd give it one star if it weren't for the larger than average bathroom, and the fact that the staff was really nice and spoke enough English to help us check in. Overall it's not an awful place, I just feel cheated because of the price. Wouldn't stay here again, even if the room was larger than average.

Stayed here in a 4 bed tatami mat room on the 6th floor with 2 adults and 2 children. Location is great. 15 minute walk from Namba Station. Very close to Dotomburi area. 10 minutes from food market. Room was very clean w small ensuite bathroom. Good shower pressure and shampoo/body wash/ toothbrushes provided. A complimentary bottle of water each was provided daily. The kids slept well on the tatami mat beds, but the adults found them a bit on the hard side! We had a balcony overlooking the street and we could open the door to let in fresh air. The rooms are non-smoking but there is smoking areas outside the lifts and we did find that there was a smokey smell coming into our room at times. We placed a towel at the base of the door and opened the balcony door and that alleviated the smell. The staff are very friendly and helpful. A good budget option for Osaka.
