Sophisticated hotel lodging designed by HOTEL GRANVIA. The new-brand hotel “VISCHIO” of JR West Hotels retains the quality of “HOTEL GRANVIA” while placing emphasis on accommodations with a sophisticated urban and modern flair. The term “VISCHIO” means “mistletoe” in Italian, a tree that is considered holy and is said to bring luck, peace, and happiness according to Norse mythology. The name was selected due to of our desire to a place of 'urban refuge' where our guests can recover from their tiring journey and gain a sense of well-being during their stay. A mere 2-minute walk from the Hachijo Exit (South Exit) of Kyoto Station. A convenient location for a variety of transport modes, including rail, air, and bus. The hotel is located next to Kyoto Station and is easily accessible via Shinkansen express trains and subway lines, and the proximity of the bus terminal makes this location very convenient for guests arriving via bus or limousine transport from Kansai Airport and Itami Air

My girl and I had a wonderful and enjoyable stay at Vischio Kyoto. A newly opened Hotel with an unique hotel entrance that gives a feel of exclusive and posh. Cozy lounge for relaxation and reading. Location is superb which is just opposite Kyoto Station. You will be spoiled with the wide spread of choices for Breakfast and the staffs are very efficient and friendly. Hotel facilities are fantastic, they have self-laundry service for guests and you can view the status time of your laundry on flat-screen TV in your room. Indoor public bath is very relaxing and clean. This hotel goes extra miles that we felt so special and welcome: A welcome note on the TV screen when we entered the room. Just cannot stop praising and appreciating this hotel. I would like to say a big "THANK YOU" to Ms Atsuko WATANABE, Deputy Manager. Upon arriving Kyoto, I had realized that I had left my cap at Gosenjaku's Hotel cafe in Kamikochi. I approached the front desk for help and Ms Atsuko came forward to attend to me. She was very efficient, within half an hour she called and informed us that the cap was found. As we were leaving Kyoto the next day and not in time to collect the cap, Ms Atsuko arranged it to send over to my address in Singapore. A personal touch from her again, upon our check-out in the morning, she came to meet us and even offered to give us Gosenjaku Hotel's email for follow up. I am surprised to receive an email from Ms Atsuko personally, thanking us for the stay. We will definitely be back with my family when we visit Kyoto.

This hotel is steps away from Kyoto station which makes it perfect for tired travelers like myself and my family. We were blessed to be able to stay a few nights here within its first few months of opening. This place has an indoor public bath which is very relaxing, but please watch the video (in the hotel room) about public bath etiquette. Also there is a fitness room (2 machines and some weights) as well as a washer and dryer. Unfortunately we had issues with the washer/dryer room because it’s one machine that is suppose to do both wash and dry and in reality, it really just washes and semi-dries so note that if you choose to use it. There is a locked luggage room if you need to drop your stuff of before or after check in which was helpful for us. Also the staff is very helpful and patient at explaining where everything is. Best of all is this place has a “family room” option which allows for our family of 4 to stay together with 4 beds and a little “living room”. We will definitely be back!

I cannot stop appreciating this hotel. The location is superb. Just opposite the Kyoto station. New hotel. Very prompt and efficient staff at check-in. The room is very good. Very clean. Very well appointed. Every thing in the room is top-notch.The bathroom, toiletries, bed and bath linens, bed, air-conditioning etc. The breakfast was also fantastic. Lot of vegetarian options. Will surely come back to this place. Worth every penny.

Took a while to choose a hotel for one night in Kyoto. If you are not keen in staying in a touristic area, or near the highlights of Kyoto, this is a great option. It is near the train station and a lot of food places. The hotel offers an onsen and is new. Extremely clean and good services. I felt bad that the staff had to deal with many rude people staying there but they maintained a very high standard and professionalism. The breakfast is something you should include as it is really fantastic. I really liked the sliced beef. I think it is an unspoken rule in Japan that non-Japanese guests have to stay in the corner room in the most inconvenient location. Even though I am very quiet and respectful for 8 days in a row this has happened to me in 8 different hotels. Bit of a blatant xenophobia and this hotel continues this trend. That was the only downside I faced.

The building is quite new, so nothing to say in that respect. As in most places in Japan, the bedroom was pretty small compared to Western standard. Bedsheets were really bad and bed was not really comfortable. Low cost beddings. Several incidents really annoyed us though. First, upon checking in, staff was...smelly. As in, bad body odor (sweat). Since it affected not one but two persons, I believe the reason was the fabric of their uniform. Second incident was when we requested a spoon from the restaurant, we were asked our room number...as if we came to Kyoto to steal a spoon. Nonsensical. We were warned that if we checked out after 11h30, we would have to pay 30% more - I can understand but I which it was told to us before 10h45am. Finally, after 90min in the drier, our laundry was not dry (!), so we had to start another 90min cycle - which would end post checkout time. Mind you, the staff didn't let us go check on our laundry but escorted us there. Very unpleasant feeling. More than that, they told us, after verification, that they could not get the laundry out of the machine and put it in a bag for us and that we had to be there till it finished. Service at a 2 star hotel would be better. And I don't blame staff who was willing but really seemed limited by management's instructions. Location was ok for the station but not really the best to visit sights (far).
