Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

It is an excellent option for a comfortable and very cozy stay... It’s very close to the Emmachi train station, the staff is always trying to help you, they give you an American breakfast for free from 7:00-9:00 and the rooms are quiet, clean, cozy, comfortable and equipped with the necessary... It would be great if there were some coin washing machines or a laundry nearby. Perfect for sleeping and hang out all day long!!!

The hotel is very close to Kyoto Station. This means you can get on bus or train in 10 minutes by walking. The area is full of good restaurants, cafes and convenient stores. Bic Camera and Yodobashi Camera is also close to the hotel. The staff is very kind and friendly. When rained they offered umbrella, when needed they offered USB to Japanese plug charge cable. The rooms are small but functional… To my surprise the breakfast is a bonus! The hotel is completely non smoking... I can stay at Hotel Excellence Kyoto Ekimae on my next visit to Kyoto.

The hotel is upfront about it being a no-frills establishment. Rooms are probably on the small side, but hey, if it's big enough to accommodate a bed and there's space for you to walk to the bathroom, that's pretty good to me. I believe the facilities here are more than sufficient to cater to the traveller's basic requirements. Everything is very clean, rates extremely reasonable, and JR station close enough and bus stop just across the street.

The hotel is located 200 m away fro Enmachi station, which makes it very convenient for visiting Kyoto. Our room was very tiny, without wardrobe, but very clean and new. Breakfast was included. Very basic: toast, Cooked egg and coffee or tea. Staff tried to be helpful but their English was really bad. Recommended if you just need a well located place to sleep after a full day in Kyoto!

The hotel advertises itself as in front of the Kyoto Station but it is not. It is about 15mins walk to the station, and so if you have heavy luggage you will be quite annoyed dragging it to the hotel. But if you travel light and the weather’s favourable, you won’t be disappointed. Everything else is functional and I would say value for money - I mean it is cheap so I am happy. Otherwise I dislike the fact that check-in is only 4pm and check-out time is 10am : and the hotel does not provide baggage holding service after you check out so plan your trips carefully! If you need baggage service after your check out I suggest you use the lockers at the train station.
