Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Hotel is just opposite to the Kyoto station which cross the road and close the Kyoto tower. Staff were so friendly and attentive when they knew my wife a bit tired, they accepted for early check in without any extra charge. Our room was so clean, amenities were great. Washing and drying machines at the 4th floor which extremely convenient for us. We thank you all for hospitality and we definitely will come back for longer

This hotel is right across the Kyoto train / bus station so catching public transportation is really easy. It's also beside the Kyoto tower. It's a no frills type of hotel. The staff that greeted us spoke English. When we asked about the Kyoto tower, they gave us a discount coupon. Women also get a free treat during check in. My girls and I selected the facial masks. What a lovely touch! For a family of 4 with older teens, we had to get two rooms. They were able to accommodate our request of having the rooms beside each other. Two large luggages barely fit but the rooms were clean. The free matcha tea in the rooms are delicious! The bathroom is small. It reminded me of being in a cruise. However, they keep it clean. We're a smaller sized Asian couple so this was just right for us. I could see how most Americans or Europeans may find this too small. There were complimentary toiletries. There were also pajamas for us to use! We did not opt for the free breakfast so we're not sure how that was. There are plenty of restaurants around and a small coffee shop in the first floor. I'd go back if I visited Kyoto.

Room 319 was surprisingly quiet being so close to the train station, but it was located towards the back of the building. The mattresses are smaller with just a single pillow choice. The bathroom fan seemed to be on all the time, so it felt like there was a constant sound coming from that room, even with the door closed. Very easy access to train station and all of its food choices. Good space for family of 4 with 2 teenagers. Filtered water dispenser in lobby that was refreshing.

Stayed here 3 nights while visiting Kyoto. Very clean, but very small and dated. One family member is 6’ and he could barely use the toilet, his knees hit the wall. There were 3 of us in one room, corner room. I believe this is one of their bigger rooms. The hotel is close to everything, great location. A little small even for one person.
