Neighborhood
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Hi - I would agree with the above comment. This Ryokan is very clean - as are most places in Japan. However, it has not been recently renovated and there are signs of wear and tear such as scuff marks. I thought this Ryokan was expensive for what you get - there is much better value places to be found in Kyoto.

What is the closest JR Train Station to the hotel?
Dear Glenn G, Thank you very much for your contact and inquiry. Please note that our closest JR Station is Kyoto station which is less than 15 minutes walk. But also, we suggest you to take a subway from the Kyoto station to Gojo station which is only 1 station, then walk to our ryokan within 8 minutes walk way. Please refer other accesses on our official website which have link on our TripAdvisor page. We are very much appreciated with your contact on this Q&A. Yours sincerely, Ryokan Ryokufuso
