【180 th Anniversary Greeting】Thank you for favoring us for so many years Izuyasu have reached its 180th anniversary in 2019. We thank our 650,000 guests who have visited us since inauguration. It wasn’t easy for us to do business in Kyoto, We were established in the year of starvation in 1839, followed by the Meiji Restoration, the Pacific war, burst of Japan’s economic bubble, and the Bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers. We respect our ancestors who worked through those difficulties, and at the same time, we would like to thank our guests for supporting us during those times. We believe it is our role to create a space for the people from around the world of all ages to gather and communicate through our cultures. There are still much more to work on, but we would like to continue develop through the following years to expand our food, decorations and services. Please keep us, including the staffs and our family in favor through the coming year. IZUYASU

Neighborhood
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

My sister and I stayed at the Traditional Kyoto Inn for only one night. The ambeience of the internal spaces is breath taking. It is traditional but still has elements like thick mattresses (although we found these hard). The view from our window was a parking lot which wasn’t

Kyo-Kaiseki dinner by chef/owner Yasujiro Izutsu was amazing. The fish roe and monk fish in the starter was just too delicious! We had dinner at the counter where the chef prepared some of dishes in front of us. He also spoke about his heritage and food of the ryokan. We had

We stayed here for one night as we wanted to try the traditional kaiseki-ryori meal in a ryokan setting. This is definitely a hidden gem - we weren't sure what to expect when we booked months in advance... Our expectations were completely blown away from the moment we stepped

We booked through Agoda and Bookingcom. I did look at the website too before we booked. I believe it is quite specific if you book with Dinner and or Breakfast. Sorry, I’m not exactly sure what they would mean by half board.
