Neighborhood
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

Not far fr train station. Cross the road and the hotel is on the left side. Pretty convince. For those with lots of bags try to stay near the station. Smaller hotel available but a distance walk away.........

Fabulous hotel, exceptional staff. So clean,so bright, and a delight to stay here. I wish we were staying here longer than the one night before a transfer. I’d definitely come back to this hotel again and send family and friends here too. Very close to Kyoto station and cafes and department store and yummy food. Just brilliant, Congratulations to all the staff for the amazing job and attention to detail to clients and hotel surroundings.

The room was compact but sufficient for a good night's rest. Very clean and newly updated it would appear. It has several USB charging points-- excellent for travellers with phones, pads, and cameras. It served an excellent buffet breakfast with Japanese, Vietnamese and western flavours. It's good and you have to try it all... eating enough to by pass lunch. The hotel is very close and walking distance to several places. The Higashi-Honganji Temple is right across the road. Kyoto Station is a few minutes walk away.

Located in the depths of Kyoto station, it is directly accessible from the underground (a plus during rainy days), but it did take some navigating. (Walk towards Kyoto Tower and the Yodabashi store and it'll be towards the end of the hallway on the left hand side). It also leads directly to the Avanti Sunrise Tours desk via the underground, so if you've booked a Kyoto/Nara tour, it's an easy walk over in the morning. We actually found the service excellent, and the level of English spoken by the staff quite proficient. They were able to explain to us how to use the elevators, the amenity pack offered to female guests, and also the availability of a restaurant for breakfast if we so chose to dine there. The luggage storage came in handy on our last day in Kyoto, as we were able to leave our suitcases with front desk while we wandered over to Fushimi Inari-Taisha (a quick train ride away from Kyoto station). The room that we booked was wonderful! It had a small sitting area by the windows and the beds were wonderfully comfortable. The room was quiet (we were facing the back of the building) and we had a great sleep. Overall, a fantastic stay and I'd highly recommend picking this hotel - I know I will be when I come back!

Reception is hidden in a communal lobby. Small room, small bathroom, very hard mattresses, hard pillows. Good location. Friendly staff. Give the restaurant a miss. Close to a chemist, convenience store, train station, post office, and good restaurants.
