I really enjoyed my time at Villa Atulya. Our family of 6 had the top three rooms in the Villa and we were able to enjoy beautiful views of the Indian Ocean. It was very soothing to hear the roar of the sea and it was a perfect spot to rest, relax and recharge. The food was tasty and i would highly recommend the Tuna Steaks and Chocolate Brownie. The breakfast was a selection of Sri Lankan and Western options. Both were tasty. The Villa has a spa menu and the full body massage was divine. It was incredibly relaxing to have the massage in a hut right next to the sea. I wish I could bottle how relaxed I felt. Tuktuks to the centre of Mirissa were $400 LKR one way or you could walk which is an approx 40 minute walk up some big hills and uneven paths. The only improvement to our stay would be receiving more of a run down on how the Villa operates on check-in. Overall It was a very enjoyable and relaxing stay and I would recommend.

I had a wonderful stay at Villa Athulya with my family. Its a fabulously built property with class and comfort in mind. Its tastefully decorated based on a theme with really nice antiques all around the villa.

Kids loved the pool, which was well maintained and the large open garden area that leads to the beach. There is a really nice rock pool few step away from the Villa that has several varieties of colorful fish in it, kids had a great time snorkeling with the fish, Scenery from the property especially the sunrise and sunset was stunning!

Rooms are clean, well equipped and nicely furnished, and are very spacious. As a family of four we has a very comfortable stay.

Staff is very helpful and go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable. They have a wonderful chef in house and the food that we had was the best Sri Lankan food we have had from any hotel in the country.

Highly recommend this Villa to anyone travelling down south of Sri Lanka,

We were a group of 7 families who took up 5 rooms at Villa Kanchana, and 2 rooms at sister property Villa Atulya for 3 nights, Dec 29th-Jan 1st 2020. The properties were a perfect setting for such a large group, with plenty of space to hangout, play, and chill. Both villas are classic architect Anjalendran, spacious, vibrant, detailed, with gorgeous paintings and furniture. Of the two villas, Kanchana seemed to be larger, and was the preferred hangout for the group. While were were right on the beach, this stretch is not meant for swimming or walking, given the rocks. However, Mirissa beach in only a 5 minute drive, and we were able to enjoy the beach there. At the properties, we made full use of the two lovely and warm pools.

The meals (off the a la carte menu) for breakfast and dinner were excellent, both the eastern dishes like rice and curry, and also the western meals like the pork chops and pasta. The chef also did a wonderful job grilling and frying all the seafood we brought.

The staff, while ever pleasant and willing, did not seem to have proper systems and processes in place, and there were a few mistakes in our orders throughout. They also did not seem to have a clear delegation of duties which hampered their effectiveness. Nothing unpleasant, just could up their game to match the setting and the food.

Overall we had a blast, which is a tall order for such a large group. A very family-friendly vacation spot!

Lovely house, good location and friendly, very helpful staff but seriously overpriced for what you get in the end. If you want clean towels or your room cleaned you'll have to hunt down one of the three guys working there. You can walk into Mirissa however with kids it's better with a tuktuk.

Unfortunately this guest did not complain about anything during the 3 days of her stay but later asked for a partial refund which we refused. We believe that our rates are not excessive for the service provided. The excellent reviews we receive is proof of this. There are many options available nearby for the price conscious travelers.

We had a lovely time here. We stayed in Villa Atulya but the adjacent villa (Villa Kanchana) seems to very similar, and the two share a kitchen. The villas are only about 5-10 years old but have been built in a charming, older style. The rooms are very nice and there is a great view of the sea from the upstairs rooms. Breakfast is included, and for lunch and dinner they have an a la carte menu with fairly standard Sri Lankan or Western options; the food is good, and you can have it on the 1st foor or 2nd floor verandah or in the garden. The villa employees are really nice and go out of their way to accommodate you. The only downside here is that unless you are a surfer, it is too rocky to get in the water, and the beach is somewhat stony/rocky, but there are other nice beaches within easy driving distance.

We weren’t at all sure what to expect from Villa Atulya as some reviews left us in some doubt but we shouldn’t have worried. It’s a laid back place but rest assured if you need anything they will do their best to help you . As other reviews have pointed out guests are left in some doubt over eg room servicing. Unless you hand your key in and ask them to do it , they won’t. But if you ask them ... they will! Simples! The staff are young but we were served great and generous breakfasts and “ Chef” is talented. They also prepared evening meals on request with extras we asked for. They will “ fetch” beer on request and do their upmost to please . It took us a day or so to get into the swing of it but once we knew how things worked we had no problems. Yes ... some sort of information in your room explaining some of the ‘quirks ‘ may have helped but we would happily stay on our next trip to that stretch of coast . Thank you to all of the staff for making our stay an enjoyable one !

After a less than great start on 1st Jan, this hotel ended up being my favourite of our entire trip. It's very close to Mirissa, just 20min walk and if doing so at sunset you have to stop and watch the sun go down on one of the many bars along the coastal path.
The rooms only 4 in this side, all have sea views, some on the ground floor by the pool, or on the balcony with a full sea view. Pool is lovely and good for lengths before breakfast. Breakfast, lunch and dinner here were amazing. If you are only staying 2 nights in Mirisssa, have dinner here one night, the other at Salt on the main beachfront. The rooms are clean, with interesting bathrooms which are half open to the night sky, which is lovely. The staff are very helpful and it was a very serene experience. We went into Mirissa beach to swim and surf, then to Welligamba for a surf lesson which is better for beginners.

We paid for the villa which has 5 rooms and can also be used as one suite with 3 rooms. Rooms are spacious, clean and has all the amnesties. Bathrooms are spacious. The villa has this beautiful vintage feel with all the modern facilities, it was a perfect getaway for just us. The staff was helpful and f riendly, we bought the dry rations and they cooked the meals. Meals were good. The pool was well maintained and kids love it. Beach right infront of the villa was not so great, but if you walked down a bit it's nice. Definitely a good option for times n likes of Covid!

We had a great stay at Villa Atulya with extended family. We booked both villas (5 rooms each) & each with their own pool. There’s large garden spaces in both so it’s great for kids or a friendly game of cricket. The villa manager Ranga & his team ensured everyone was comfortable. The food was really good and everyone enjoyed their stay.

The sea front right outside the villa is rocky so be sure to pack water shoes or sandals. Having said that, there’s lot of marine life visible in the naturally formed tide pools. To the right of the villa is a small natural pool / Bay Area that is great to chill in (and also for varieties of fish). Further down to the right there are pretty big waves but it’s not suitable for body boarding because of the rocks.

I’d really recommend Villa Atulya for a group vacation.

I should explain that there are 2 Villas with the same name, side by side, with each Villa having 5 rooms. There were 11 of us staying in the Villa, so we 7 rooms booked. This meant that we had one full villa to ourselves and 2 rooms in the adjoining villa. As agreed in advance with the owner, we used the one villa for our food and spend the leisure time there also.
The Villa exceeded all our expectations, from the Villa itself, the staff, the food and the customer service. Rooms were exceptional and the staff cooked a fantastic meal for the 11 people on our last night, that had us all wanting to stay longer.
The Villa and garden area with the pool were maintained every day and everything was in pristine condition all the time.
Breakfast every morning for the 3 days was a feast, with nothing an issue for the kitchen staff.
We would all highly recommend this Villa, especially if you have a group that will occupy all 5 rooms in the Villa and have it to yourself.

No, not really. The surf point is in front of W18 a bit further along the coast towards Weligama.

Though we saw some people surfing there, the beach in front of the villa is rocky. It may be better to go to Mirissa beach which is nearby.

We have conducted a disciplinary hearing and issued a final warning letter to the staff member in accordance with the labour regulations of Sri Lanka. He will no longer stay at the premises overnight and will not have direct contact whatsoever with customers. We can reassure you and future visitors that this will not happen again.

Hi Celine yes, you can access restaurants on the beach on foot. It would take about 5 to 10 minutes. There is a very good in house Chef at Villa Atulya.
