Mandara Resort is celebrated for its tranquil beachfront setting and serene atmosphere, with many guests lauding the spacious rooms offering picturesque ocean views. However, opinions on the resort's value and cleanliness are split; some visitors find the accommodations and amenities, including food and drinks, to be reasonable, while others report maintenance issues and cleanliness oversights.

Detailed Reviews
Mandara Resort , Mirissa
We were travelling on a 2 week tour with a private car and a Sri Lankan guide and stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The hotel is situated with immediate access to a 3 Km long and beautiful sandy beach with many surfing opportunities, local beach bars, and local fishing boats. The hotel has a good garden with plenty of space for sun loungers and a lovely large pool with depths from shallow to 2 metres. The majority of the rooms have views & balconies either overlooking the sea/ or the adjoining river. Air-con & WiFi work very well. Everything is very clean and well organised and the rooms are large / very large with all necessary facilities (except a safe box not bolted to anything). Food choice was buffet style for dinner and breakfast with a good choice of dishes all being well prepared and presented. Staff are friendly and mostly efficient. Hotel is good for a few days of relaxation in the sun or on the beach. Alternatively it is close to Weligama or to Marissa by quick tuk tuk trip to sample some local life. A visit to the fortress city of Galle is highly recommended at a distance of approx 30Km for those interested in Portuguese, Dutch, British history or cricket. (test matches are played there.) Travel options to Galle are: Tuk –tuk. Negotiate hard and 1500 rupees will get you there in 1 hour ; alternatively walk 50 meters to the main road, turn left for about 150 meters and wait at bus stop for preferably a no. 350 local bus with sign board Galle – Matara. They come about every 15 -20 minutes. Cost is about 80 rupees / person and trip takes about 50 minutes. Bus ends in Galle right next to the Fort and Cricket Ground. ( no. 2 or 32 buses also go via Galle but onwards to Colombo). Return by same method with bus direction to Matara. Get off at the hotel just before the river crossing before Marissa.
Overall Rating Very Good. 5/5

Generally an Ok hotel.
Seems to have expanded in time. Haphazard development. Lovely beach setting. The pool and dining have not expanded to accommodate the increase in room numbers.
We got the tops floor executive rooms. Huge rooms and massive toilets. The mattresses and pillows are very good. Toilets with jacuzzis are great but the pressure of the water is quite inadequate.
Rooms need door bells as the knocking cannot be heard inside specially in the corner rooms. Very spacious and great rooms.
The gym is out of order and not at all maintained.
The management must look into the hygiene and follow the governments advice on how to operate during the Covid Pandemic.
The kitchen department needs a huge uplift as the food can be much improved.
If the management takes the advice positively they can make this a great hotel. However, we had a great time and thanks for accommodating our private function in the bar room.

We had stayed in the resort for 3 nights. After a bit of goof up in some other hotel, ended up in Mandara Resort in a last minute booking on the spot.
When we reached the place, we were surprised to see such a good property, so under rated.
To our luck,we were offered two choices between a plunge pool room and a deluxe room with a sea view balcony.
We chose the sea view room and we didn't regret at all.
The room was huge, absolutely clean with a beautiful view of the ocean and the pool.
The beach was easily accessible and not at all crowded.
We had a wonderful time at the resort, food buffet spread was good. Being, a pure vegetarian -still had enough options for breakfast and dinner.
The prices of the items in their food menu was also not very steep.
The staff of the resort were warm and friendly.
Just that the room needed to have more light fittings, since everything was very dimly visible and straining the eyes at night.
All in all a pleasant experience.

Had a good stay for a couple of nights. Generally the room was clean but the bathroom needed a deep clean. Initially I was unhappy with the room assigned due to poor location and heavy mildew. At my request the hotel offered me an upgrade for $20/night which was waived upon checkout. The hotel and room were clean though the bathroom required a good scrubbing.
The buffet was ok and had a decent choice.

Initially they gave a room with three beds,On requesting a room with single double bed , they lied that all the rooms were similar.
On insisting they got ready to give a room with double bed and requested for 30 mins for preparations.
Room preparation took almost 1 hrs.
With this they also messed up the book , we booked HB and they took it as BB which again had to be sorted by calling to Travel agent who informed mistake from hotel.
Even after checking into a new room they took 30 mins to get my luggage i.e. total 1.5 hrs waiting for luggage from reception to room.
The room was provided into under construction side of the hotel were the lift was still getting constructed.
The rooms are moderate and access to a common beach, the beach section in front of the hotel is not clean to go.
Staff need heavy training in dealing with customer and handling their request.
Eventough the location is good but the hotel is close to the river mouth so a lot of dirt is lying on the beach which will bring down your enthusiasm to utilise the beach activities.
Food is ok.
The only best thing was a solo singers during the dining hours.

Rooms were perfect, food and buffet would have been much better (not worth for the price at all) we had to purchase water bottles even during the meal time which was triple the price, better to purchase water from outside (even a 5L can for your whole stay). Only the rooms were perfect.
We had a bitter experience (kind of discrimination from other guests) but the staff Bhaniya, Lahiru and the F & B manager treated us very politely and handled the situation.
Pool staff (young guy) was full of attitude, he should have been trianed well to treat the guests.

Stayed there with the family . Infrastructure wise nice hotel with a not so clean beach front . But the staff was pathetic and rude to the hilt . Food was quite ordinary . Salads were not fresh and very poor service at the restaurant . Can go on and on complaining about the deficiencies . Icing on the cake for us was in departure the front office executive ask whether we have taken a small bottle of shampoo from the room . I went to the room again and the room boy has not checked the bathroom well . My advise to anyone who plans to go there is please please don’t go there . If you want to to mirissa there are plenty of other places to go . They don’t give a damn about SriLankan guests . Probably foreign travellers must be getting the same treatment . Don’t go there the staff will make sure to irritate you in every known way and destroy your holiday . Tell you the truth this is the worse hotel experience of my life here in srilanka and abroad .

I stayed in Mandara resort Mirissa during the month of August and it was a totally unsatisfactory experience.
I never recommend this place to any female travelers or to couples. There’s no security or privacy at all. During my stay, all my confidential information was given to a third party without my knowledge.
Even my telephone call details, visitors, room number and many other details were given out.
There’s no high security for females and, especially if you’re planning to come here for your honeymoon, you may expect hassles.
When I called room service to cleaning and what they did was, instead of following there duty they were more considered of who I shared my room and who answers the phone and the funniest thing is, even all these details were given to a third party. Shame on Mandara resort Mirissa and this shouldn't be allowed in the hospitality industry and this is against the Sri Lankan hospitality culture.
I informed all these details to hotel higher management and they didn’t take any action against my feedback.
I repeat my self “ Do not book this hotel. “
It’s crap and unsafe environment . If something goes wrong at night, there’s no one at the hotel to help you.
Stay away from scams

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay here. The breakfast and dinner buffets have a good selection of western and Sri Lankan/Indian food, the best consistently being the Sri Lankan options (the western choice being a bit bland and recycled from previous days). Chef Sandalu was very friendly and gave us our daily fist bump as well as checking we were enjoying ourselves. The hotel setting is great, right on Weligama beach and a short drive to Mirissa beach/town. The pool is well maintained and cleaned with a bar, very friendly staff all round. The room with a sea and pool view was large and we enjoyed the balcony and new facilities (especially the Aircon!). We had a bit of an issue with ants in the bathroom, which could have done with a deep clean, but otherwise everything was clean.

Very nice hotel. It is completely unclear why he has a low rating. The staff is very friendly, quickly fulfills all requests. For example, I asked to bring an iron, after three minutes there was an iron with an ironing board. I asked to bring a knife to the room, and in two minutes there was a knife. I gave three T-shirts to wash in the morning, and in the evening the clean and ironed ones were already lying in my room. Everything is clean and cozy. The only thing is, there is no beach of its own, but this is not a problem, since there is another beach within a 10-minute walk.
In general, I liked everything. I recommend it!👍

Best to get a tuk tuk to Merissa no more than 300 rps. I wouldn't recommend walking the roads drivers a little crazy. The pavements are very un even. Nice walk along the beach to Weligama taking in the fish boats. The locals are friendly and pose no concerns.
they have a spa
