Palagama is a beautiful tropical beach resort designed by world famous architect Cecil Balmond and John Balmond. Ideally located along a sandy beach, more than 2 kms from the main road, the resort enjoys pristine and serene surroundings. The number of cabanas has been limited to 16 to be able to provide tailor made experiences for our guests. Designed using natural materials and inspired by the local architecture, our four Beach cabanas offer direct view of the Ocean and espouse an Eco Chic vibe. Other Cabanas and Villas are nestled amidst tropical and lush gardens. Despite its small size, Palagama offers all the services and facilities including a great outdoor restaurant serving western and local cuisines with a special emphasis on seafood, a beach bar fully equipped with an international selection of wines, a fresh water infinity Pool, SPA, travel desk, complimentary wifi, local bikes tours, handicraft shop, daily recreational activities and cooking classes. Day excursions include seasonal dolphin and whale watching, KITE SURFING expeditions in Kalpitiya and day safaris to Wilpattu national park famous for leopard sightings. Palagama has all the ingredients for a fun and relaxing beach holiday. Just 2.5 Hours from the airport, it is also an ideal gateway to the famous Cultural sites of Sri Lanka including Anuradhapura, Sigiriya and Kandy, as well as a relaxing stop before or after an international flight.

We spent two nights here at the start of our holiday in Sri Lanka. In line with other hotels in the area, there was a shortage of guests and we were made to feel very welcome by the staff. Our Cabana was very charming, with the outdoor shower a real delight! The side door opened on to a terrace with two sun beds, a nice option to get out of the hot sun. There is a lovely swimming pool looking out across the Indian Ocean, the beach itself is clean, although when we were there the tide was quite high, so not a lot of sand, the the sea was lovely and warm! The menu was slightly limited but perfectly okay for our stay, and the food was excellent. A shout out to Leo the chef. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it.

This must be one of the most fantastic places we have stayed at in years. Only 14 bungalows and cabanas in total. Service from naturally friendly and helpful staff couldn’t be faulted, nor could accommodation and food. Laid back and smart without being at all pretentious. Highly and unreservedly recommended if you ever travel north of Colombo and want something special.

About a 4 hour drive from Columbo, this place was our perfect first stop for our SL trip. A few days of peace and quite by the pool/on the beach, with incredible sunsets, delicious food and really friendly staff. We only ventured out on a bike ride once, but there was the option to do fishing, whale watching etc. The rooms were rustic but comfortable; wooden cabanas amongst the trees with a large outdoor (but covered) bathroom and shower. One of the staff, Denzil, helped us organise a car through his son. Both so friendly and welcoming.

We had a very good stay at Palagama beach. Very spacious garden cabana with a nice and warm open air shower. Good bed, mosquito net and all clean and tidy. Beautiful garden, good pool and good food. And on top of that: very friendly and helpful staff. Pool towels are provided.

We stayed for a whole week in the hope of really unwinding, seeing some Sri Lankan wildlife and eating lovely local food. And we were not disappointed at all. Our beachside cabana was much more spacious than we thought it would be and we had our own private space outside too. Loved the outdoor bathroom too. The staff were all really friendly and very efficient and the food was delicious. They even offered to mix up what was on the menu for us to add variety as we were there for such a long time. The pool is amazing with the best sunsets over the ocean you could wish for. The pool is also lovely - really big and the perfect temperature for cooling off after sunning yourself or a day’s sightseeing. We did the half day safari to Wilpattu which was great and the dolphin watching trip right from the beach in front of the hotel. Lovely.

We were here just after the terrible events of Easter 2019 and by the end of our stay were the only people in the hotel. We were made to feel safe and welcome and the staff were incredibly helpful. As a family of 4 we had a cabana/villa with two rooms joined by an external veranda and so had plenty of space. The rooms were a little dark but the semi-open bathrooms were bright and airy. The pool is lovely and whilst the beach isn’t perhaps the white sands of brochures, it is very near and we had a lot of fun playing in the warm sea and waves. The pool is perfect for relaxing by and the kids had a lot of fun in it. We liked the food very much and found is more reasonably priced than elsewhere with a menu rather than set meals. The crab curry was delicious. There is not much else nearby and so this is a good spot for a few days relaxation - though tours whale watching etc are available.
