Naples is infuriating and enchanting, inexcusable and irresistible; a concentration of Italy’s extremes. Watch your money and the traffic. Luxuriate in the history, art, food, wine, landscape and sunshine; sublime even by Italy’s breath-taking standards. Villa San Gennariello is a renovated 18thC hunting lodge conveniently located in Portici, about 20 minutes from Naples on the rattling Circumvesuviana train line to...

The multi-course dinners cooked for us each of four evenings by Emma Cozzi, the warm, wonderful matriarch of the lovely Italian family that owns this gracious 1740 mansion at the foot of Vesuvius, were a dining high point during our month long trip in Italy. In quality, diversity -- and value -- her cooking far surpassed ninety percent of the...

This is a wonderful property, the town maybe not so much. However, we were two women traveling alone, and never had any problems or concerns. Family was helpful and accommodating. They picked us up and dropped us. We simply called on our arrival at the station. Emma is a great cook and very personable-we had dinner there two nights. She...

Emma and Domonic (Mimo) did their best to ensure our stay was perfect, and it was. What fantastic people. This building has been the grandest of "Little Palaces" in its day. A little faded now but non the less enchanting. Eat dinner in the beautiful walled courtyard with turtles swimming in the ornate pool. Front the rooftop terrace there are...

From the first time I ever came to Portici/Napoli in 2009 I was recommended to stay here by a dear friend of mine. I fell in love with Portici after staying here and the staff here are honestly like family to me these days. The location is really great to get around to places but really peaceful to sleep at...

Absolutely phenomenal. We heard about this B&B from a friend's recommendation, and it turned out to be everything and more than we could ever have hoped for! It is more like staying in a museum than a hotel, a beautifully restored 18C country house. Guests can sit in the different rooms in the house and gardens reading and relaxing and...

I booked Villa San Gennariello because I found it in the Rough Guide to Naples and the Amalfi Coast, the review was very good and the price was excellent. We wanted a spot from which we could walk to Herculaneum and that was close to a station so that we could travel onto Amalfi. Our host told us via email...

As we were delighted to write in the Visitors' Comments volume at the Villa San Gennariello at the end of our (too short!) three-day stay: We (my wife and I) have lived for some ten years in Italy, over the past fifty years, and so we've experienced LOTS of varying living arrangements (school settings, our own rental apartments, etc.): We...

I've now stayed here twice, once in April this year with my fiancé and I've today returned from a trip with my mum. Emma and her family are wonderful, genuine people that go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. The gardens are beautiful, the location is perfect for visiting ercolano scavi, Sorrento, ischia, Capri...

“We loved our second floor bedroom that had the bathroom with the dark green tiles and it was HUGE ! Quiet... and when the shutters are closed the room becomes very dark which ensures a really great sleep ! By the way...you are not really near any other guests so you do not hear any voices , or T.V.s...etc.”
