This was my second trip to Mekelle and the Axum Hotel, both time on University business. Positives: 1. There is an excellent breakfast. Ready every day but 6am, decent selection on the buffet, cook who makes eggs to order, plenty of hot coffee. 2. There is a beautiful patio for food & drinks along with the old Axum hotel, just... I had a room on the 4th floor overlooking the back that I liked as it was quiet. The hotel is relatively good but the breakfast can do with a few more options on the table. I ate at the hotel restaurant a number of times and I found the food and service okay but the leaky bathroom would do... More

Very nice hotel in Mekelle. Very near to airport. Very nice open restaurant. WiFi is decent. They don't have a mini bar. Not even a coffee maker in room. Have free airport pickup and drop. Hotel reception does not give receipt for foreign exchange.

We stayed here for one night as a part of our tour package with Tesfa tours. It's a big hotel with little charm and lots of business types milling about. It's also a little dated and probably needs to be remodeled to keep up with all the building they are doing in the area. The breakfast wasn't that great, with... More

Axum hotel is on a hill and feels secure on arrival. It overlooks the style and other historical places. The rooms show their age and the bedding was thin and overused. The restaurant and bar is reasonable and the capuchino is good. Considering how remote the town is our expectations were low and the hotel proved it.

All reviews of hotels in Ethiopia are ranked against each other following month of travelling and are not ranked against western hotels. Rooms are large and functional in new block. WiFi in public areas fine. Restaurant in old block and aspires to grandeur. Free wine provided Christmas day. Outside bar area. Breakfast is buffet but is not outstanding. Walking distance... More

I left my valuables with hotel reception (as advised in the rooms) and later realised that this was where my money bag was relived of approx 25% of my US dollars. The bag had a small padlock - like you might use for a suitcase. Nevertheless, this must have been opened with a key (or picked). I know the date,... More

This isn't a bad hotel, but was more expensive than most we stayed in. The hotel looks modern and clean, but the fixtures and fittings are are poorly fitted and maintained. The bar and restaurant staff were pleasant enough, but the reception staff member was pretty hopeless. Lunch and Dinner are taken in what I believe is the old hotel.... More

I had five nights in the Axum and was disappointed. The building itself is fine but facilities and service are pretty rudimentary (even though staff were friendly). Weak and erratic Wifi makes it hard to work in the bedroom, which is not equipped with a kettle and tea/ coffee either. The restaurant is just about average, and the breakfast in... More
