Detailed Reviews
Three of us booked Sunday lunch at Cooney's Hotel in July, as we needed a pit stop on our trip to Leitrim from Tipperary. Josephine took the booking over the telephone and she was most helpful and friendly. We arrived the following day, enjoyed our meal immensely with serivce from very helpful staff who were very willing to attend to all our needs. We were very impressed with the range of options on the menu and it was overall a very enjoyable experience.Cooney's are doing a great job in meeting the challenges of Covid 19. We would strongly recommend Cooney's for food and hospitality and quality customer care. Thank you Cooney's - we will definitely be back for a repeat visit at the earliest opportunity.

I have visited cooneys Hotel a few times with my daughter for breakfast and one thing that stood out to me was the friendly staff, in particular a girl called Annette who has served us a couple of times, she is so nice and helpful and went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable, her kind words and friendly nature never fails to put me in good humour. All covid guidelines were being followed which gave me comfort as I am nervous around it. The food is really lovely and isn't expensive at all, (the homemade brown bread is gorgeous) we will continue to visit cooneys for breakfast .

We just had a fabulous meal at Cooneys this eve. We were a family group of 9 people including 5 coeliac, 3 of whom were also dairy intolerant. When I rang to book the chef rang me personally to go through the menu which gave great peace of mind. The menu was extensive with lots of gf options and even a few vegan desserts which were gf. When we arrived we were served by a lovely lady who was so friendly and helpful all evening. We all had beautiful meals, I had hake which was amazing and the vegan chocolate and coconut tart which was exceptional.
I couldn't recommend this place enough. Thanks so much for making our family night out so special, we really appreciated it.

Myself and My family stopped by Cooneys in Ballymahon last week for lunch on the way to Center Parcs, from the moment we arrived we where greeted by friendly welcoming staff we where promptly seated and made so welcome. The staff took the time to come over before we ordered to speak to us and our young family .
Myself and My wife ordered soup and a wrap which was amazing and very tasty and the kids got sausage and chips, the portions where huge. We like this place so much we are actually going to drive up for lunch as we live less than an hour away.
The bar Man ( glasses and grey Hair) sorry didn't get his name and the waitress Annette are an asset to Cooneys and these lovely people are part of the reason that we will return .
So Guys if you're Passing Ballymahon going East or West or going to Center parcs like ourselves call into Cooneys you won't be disappointed.

We travelled from England to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and we were not disappointed. From when we arrived until we left we were well looked after. Staff were fabulous even on the most busiest day, St Patrick’s Day, they were under so much pressure but everything ran smoothly. There is a great choice of food but if you would like something different all you had to do was ask nothing was too much trouble. Mike and Josie (the owners) are always on the premises so if you have any queries they are there to help.
We will be back xx

We recently stayed at Cooneys Hotel following a family bereavement. Our contact Anne and Josie were so kind in organising our 3 night stay. The rooms were lovely, spacious and spotless. Our breakfast was served each morning by a wonderful member of staff called Annette who made us feel so welcome.

Myself my wife my daughter and my father called in to Cooneys while visiting Ballymahon. On arrival we were promptly seated by a very friendly and mannerly waitress. She took our drinks order and returned with the drinks and took our food order. All our food came out within 10 mins was hot and plentiful . We had ordered two beef dinners a lazagne and a chicken burger special.. All four meals were excellent. Plenty on the plates and beef was so tender .. After finishing, our plates were promptly cleared and deserts and coffees were ordered . The bill was fair and we showed our appreciation with a tip. I have worked in the hospitality sector for over 35 years and it is great to see polite chatty staff that actually care about and know what they are doing in this day and age. The toilets were spotless but it was our waitress and the excellent food that made our day. Well done Cooneys.

Myself and my partner were passing through today and decided to call in for some lunch . When we walked in the front door the man bar (older man with grey hair ) wasn’t very welcoming and walked by us twice before even acknowledging us. He then gave us menus and pointed us to go to the far corner of the bar . We waited 15 minutes and no body came near us to take our food/drinks order although the waitress’s walked by us many times. We decided to leave and handed back the menus at the bar . As we walked out we could hear the bar man saying to one of the waitresses “ let them f***ing wait . “We were appalled at this and at the service overall and will never be returning.

I expected a creamy chowder with home made bread. I received a tomato based gloop with day old yeast bread. I tasted the back of the soup spoon, my stomach churned. I informed the staff this was not a creamy chowder. I never touched the chowder, one bite taken of the stale bread. My friend's chips were par cooked.
I noted the girl that served me was reluctant to attend me as she saw my untouched meal. I paid for the seat sitting in this substandard establishment, because I returned the food. Continue onto Glasson or Athlone for food, get a sandwich in a shop but do not go this hotel for food. I was annoyed, had a long ardous day in work....now had to go home and get something to eat. A dreadful experience.
