Returned after an absence of many years. Although the decor has changed and a restaurant has been added the location and views are still wonderful. We had 2 excellent meals in the restaurant - very friendly staff. The menu is extensive and well priced. We had booked our accommodation at the last minute and the only room left was a... More

We have just spent a week in Portnoo Co Donegal We recently had tea in Carnaween restaurant On our arrival there was no one to greet us. We stood for 10 minutes with staff running round us but not acknowledging us whilst another lady tried to collect pre ordered pizza We were seated in the back of the premises at... More

We stayed at Carnaween from 10th July for 3 nights and had a fantastic stay. We had Room Nine which is a family room at the front with amazing views along the beach. The room was decorated really nicely in white and blue beach house style. Beds were very comfy and great shower. A huge bonus was we could bring... More

Decided to drop in on spec without reservation on a Friday evening. A lovely young guy-Mark managed to get us a table. Throughout the evening he was so attentive and pleasant to all customers. Ann our waitress also looked after us so well. The food was cooked to perfection and so tasty and tender. My husband ordered rack of lamb... More

My husband, 3 year old and 5 month old and I embarked on our first stay away from home as a family of 4 to Carnaween House at the weekend. Friends of ours booked two family rooms for the 8 of us in total (4 adults and 4 under 4 years of age). Carnaween House was perfect! From the moment... More

Carnaween House has a whole new look since my last visit in 2011--and it is very appealing! I love the new ''beachy'' blue and white motif. Fortunately, everything else remains the same---same warm greeting, same outstanding dinner and breakfast, same great views and same feeling of finding yourself in one of the world's truly magical spots. All three of us--cousin, niece and I... More

We recently had our wedding in Carnaween House. The service, accommodation and quality of food was amazing. All the staff went above and beyond to make sure our special day was perfect! Arlene and Donal really took care of us for the weekend just as if we were a guest in their house. I would highly recommend it. The views... More

We went there for lunch yesterday. Seldom does one have such a great menu that it's difficult to choose what to have. I had the blue cheese, pear and rocket salad for starters and a fish pie for main. Both were absolutely delicious. Great food coupled with gorgeous view make this a wonderful place to dine. Next time I am... More

Carnaweenhouse was booked up for dinner so we never made it..but we did spend a few afternoons at their cafe close to the sea. It was nicely decorated, nautical theme, they served some food, which was really good, great fish and chips. It was a lovely spot to enjoy a glass of wine with a beautiful view of the sea!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Carnaween House is the ideal escape from busy lives. We love to welcome couples, families, foodies, sunset worshippers, golfers, walkers, runners, beach enthusiasts, surfers, dogs (extra charge) - whatever the purpose of your visit we strive to make sure it will be a memorable experience! We have 9 bedrooms of varying size, some rooms can be small due to the original layout when purchasing and renovating the house entirely in 2007. Only 3 rooms have tvs as we believe narin&portnoo is most enjoyed outdoors. Our restaurant has become a bit of a destination so it can be very popular and sometimes noisy, especially at high season and weekends. We also have 2 self-catering accommodations a few minutes walk away: Caranaween Cottage, a secluded 3 bed (sleeps 6) traditional irish cottage tucked away with private garden Carnaween Chalet, a cosy 2 bedroom dwelling to sleep 4 (1 double bed/1 bunk bed) and coming soon Carn'a'van, a shabby chic newly renovated caravan for those who don't mind up close and personal - could be used for extra bed space for the chalet as situation behind! we look forward to welcoming love - from all at Carnaween x ... more   less
