West Central District/ North District
The West Central District is the most populous and the busiest area. A lot of shops and hotels crowd the district, and the long-standing history results in a variety of street food. In addition to that, this district also has the highest number of temples. This is how it got the name “Tainan’s Pantheon.” Historic buildings are literally ubiquitous. For example, Hayashi Department Store, National Museum of Taiwan Literature, Confucius Temple, Chihkan Tower (formerly Fort Provintia), Sacrificial Rites Martial Temple, Tainan Grand Mazu (name of a goddess) Temple, etc. Recently, the tourism in Tainan has laid emphasis on alleys and lanes. Examples include Fujhong Street specialising in creative handicrafts, as-you-stroll desserts on Jhengsing Street, Shennong Street lined with hundred-year-old ancient houses, Sinyi Street on which the old city gate stands, Sinmei Street where old and new cultures fuse together, and Guohua Street and Baoan Raod famous for all the savoury food. All the traditional and delicious food and flavours are about to burst in your mouth. The North District, on the other hand, is a quiet secret hideaway. Lane 321 on Gongyuan Road used to be a Japanese soldiers’ dormitory. Now a few artists have set up their studios here. There are diversified art styles in each old Japanese-style house. The Garden Night Market on Haian Road is one of the famous night markets in both Tainan and Taiwan, and was the top 12 Facebook check-in location worldwide in 2013.

a simple hostel that located at 9, 10 & 11 floor & the balcony can see almost the whole city. the reception is very nice, cause im short of taiwan dollar so she no need me to paid for the deposit of the key. The bed i choose is one kind, don't get any disturb by other guest cause the ladder is other side and it only one like this in the room. The only poor thing is the air conditional is not cold enough and at noon time if i still in bed will be quite hot from the wall. On weekend they do service free breakfast, like buffet style. It pretty good taste. The toilet and bathroom is separated, clean and tidy but one of the bathroom few days keep "out of service" sign. I enjoying the common area with the MANTOU that i brought on ground floor, super delicious. At Ground floor, it surrounded with many good foods and cafe. So not hard to have a meal.

A 20 minute walk from the railway station. Easy to find. Nice modern, big, clean room. Free WiFi, cable TV and comfy big bed. Very nice reception staff. Plenty of places to eat close by. Very pleased with my choice. At the railway station is a visitor information centre. I recommend bus 88 or 99 which do two routes around the main sights. About 80TW$ for the days on / off ticket.

it is located aprox. 1km away from the station. Leave the stay and walk straight on Chenghon road (or sth like this! apologies for my mandarin). we stayed two nights. the hostel is on the 9 floor of the building and offers you with with rooms and suites. We stayed at a tiny suite with private bathroom. it was ok, clean but they will not clean the room the 2nd day - which is quite inconvenient as the bathroom has no window and towels don't get dry that fast. Service was ok, they spoke decent English and helped us with everything we need. It is very close to the flower night market and Chinkan towers, which are worth a visit.
