This was my third stay at Mu. I do love staying here. However here’s a few pros and cons to consider:
Pros - amazing cliff location with beautiful views. Grounds are well tended, I love the open style huts. Massages are 10/10 especially for Bali where they can be a bit lacklustre.
Cons - The monkeys come to the pool every day, several times a day. A few times we had to fight over clothing with monkeys who were trying to take our stuff. They drink the pool water, swim in the pool and I’m pretty sure we saw monkey poop at the bottom of the pool several times. This isn’t the fault of the hotel, they do try and shoo them away (although we did see hotel staff feeding them on at least 3 occasions). But just be aware this is normal.
Also I think the food is pretty ordinary. It used to be better, but they’ve changed the menu into healthy type salads, cold soups, even their nasi goreng is Vego with brown rice and no flavour. Two days in a row I tried to order their chicken burger (the only chicken dish on the whole menu) and they had “no chicken”. I mean come on people. Send out a driver to get some! We hired a bike and went out to some fabulous restaurants in the area so it wasn’t a real hardship but I think they could so much better. Also breakfast is nice but after 5 days in a row it was pretty limited.
Wifi was terrible. If you want to work or watch movies while you are there, forget it. We got no wifi in our hut however near the restaurant we could get onto their wifi to make FaceTime calls etc. but every day I tried to upload short videos to Instagram stories and they could never upload. Went off site to other restaurants and videos uploaded in mere seconds. Even when I was connected to wifi sometimes my sms messages were sent as paid text not I messenger because internet was so bad.
Overall it’s an amazing relaxing place to stay, and we loved the privacy of our hut pura (except when yoga was on each day as they were right in front of our space).

I've been wanting to stay here from years ago, after seeing my friend stay here for honeymoon in Cliff Bungalow. And because of the 70% disc of room and breakfast, we finally decided to visit Bali during this covid-19 pandemic. Stay here for one night, there's still another guests and we watch that beautiful sunset together. At that moment we forgot about the corona thing. Thank you! Ah and the breakfast is sooooo yummy. Love to stay here!

We stayed at Mu Bungelows in March 2023 in the Tenggiri room. It was near the reception and front entry but was quiet for most of our stay. Beds are really comfortable and clean., and the mosquito nets are let down around the bedding each night by the staff. The food and cocktails are amazing and the view from the pool over the ocean is to die for!! We loved out stay. The staff are so nice and helpful. The room was nice a cool and the bathroom attached to the room was so great. The bathroom was hot due to being open air, but it didn't worry us at all. We had a small courtyard, hammock, full size fridge and sitting area. We tended to sit in the pool area and admire the view most of the time, which is only a small walk from our accomodation.

We have rented a villa a Mu Hotel for one night : Kabuki villa.
Price was 750€ for one night .
it's supposed to be a high end villa for Bali.
Unfortunately the regally was different :
- A/C was not working in 2 bedrooms
- No fans not working in one of the room
- Bathroom not clean , trash not empty.
the equipment of the house is old and sometimes dirty
the chandeliers are dirty full of dust and dead insects.
all evening, the electrical circuit breaker tripped 5 times, it took us 1 hour to find where it was without help from reception.
as this house belongs to the owner, no one wanted to make a commercial gesture.
This house is very far from the standard of the hotel Mu to avoid and especially not to rent

We stayed in a cliff bungalow. The staff was great, the pool was well cared for with plenty of loungers and umbrellas. The breakfast was ok. The meals we had there beyond breakfast were good. The room had amazing views, but to us it was a once and done. A little too small and rough to do repeatedly. We had issues with the monkeys at our room, but I in no way fault the resort. They explained the precautions thoroughly and did everything they could to solve the problem. Just be aware they are going to be around the resort.

Once we have booked , they give us a room that was not present in the web site.
We spent sleepless nights because of the bed with fleas/bugs and despite having done this to the staff and the Director of fact , not only they didn t change the room or the bed ... which was far older than what you can find in any home stay from $10 per night in the area but they reply with arrogance as if such a thing were impossible .
The sheets were changed there with others who were thrown out on the ground where the 4 dogs spend most of their time in the house where rooms are rented .
The common areas are not kept clean for customers but are in full possession of the dogs who jump on the sofas totally wet (because of the rainy season)and in the kitchen making it impossible for customers to use the common areas .
At the fourth sleepless night we decided to leave the place despite having paid in advance one more night that there was not returned, but we have not even asked to return us the money back but we were treated badly by the manager who turned so rude instead of apologizing for giving rented a room below expectations and low standing compared to what you see on the web site besides the fact that there was fleas in the mattress of the bed.
It was a place that I loved and who has now lost my respect after this happened.

We were disappointed by the lack of communication with the owner : no welcome when arriving, he sold a room with an incredible view and finally gave it to someone else, insisting staff to clean the room while taking a shower, Balinese people (driver) are not welcome ! So, if you want to feel comfortable, avoid this address.

I have had as many trips to Bali as glowing accounts of MU. Each account, offered by friends and acquaintances, who's taste for well executed simplicity I could trust, propelled me to finally go there and stay last summer. I booked months ahead of time and got the last bungalow available for the dates I sought.
I had heard of the beautifully tended cliff top gardens, the steep walk to the beach, the infinity pool, lazy cushioned pergolas, beautiful bungalows with vast exterior living spaces, whispering placidity and .. that .. famous cliff face cave bedroom. All this and more is true.
Though my stay was a short one it did not disappoint on levels of all that is aesthetic. I will never forget the vision of a troop of local monkeys bathing at low tide on the rocks far below us. So why did I not enjoy my stay? Though, months later, I have only the rudimentary beginnings an answer to this question… I believe that the kernel of all discomfort lay in the ….. Welcome …. or ….. lack thereof.
Mu, in all its handsome beauty and authentic placidity, felt like a club. A club that we didn’t necessarily feel welcome to join. A circle of friends (mostly of Mu’s French owner) inhabit the compound for most of the summer. Surfers all, male with their spouses and kids, they share their passion for the waves readily amongst themselves yet their dinner table and living space less readily with others. The ‘Others’ in our instance was us, outsiders, anthropologically observing natives in their habitat.
I hold no fault with this whatsoever. Mu’s owner is a burly handsome Gallic surfer and he founded, built and tends the place for his friends, those sharing his passion for surf and .. a few others ( to help pay the bills possibly). It’s his place, his party. It is totally admirable what he has built, a haven of real beauty and peacefulness that in no way at all falls for that international Bali toothpaste Zen that plagues the land these days.
We arrived mid morning after a long search for the place. Mu is not anxious to be found for understandable reasons. Clearly newbie’s we deduced that the owner was just that by his kind comportment toward the staff and not at all due to his approaching us…. he didn’t. I referred earlier to the beginnings of an answer to the question I asked myself on my discomfort …. I think it was that …. Was he being rude and dismissive or just shy, reserved and not wishing to impose? I never did formulate a full response to this conundrum yet, it isn’t really important is it? , the resulting discomfort was the same and… when you work in the hospitality business at least … When in doubt … DO !
The sun goes down early in Bali, you are near the equator. Our first evening was no exception to this beautiful rule and the huge sun sank below the horizon just in front of us as we lay on our poolside lawn chairs. Just breathtaking. The dinner bell rang out at 7.30pm and we were all summoned together, one table, one conversation, a French one! The food was served at a darkened table by a pretty and smilingly distant team. The food served banquet style was good, fresh and copious, great even, yet eaten hastily. Our request that we dine elsewhere than at the big communal table so as not to intrude was flatly denied. Sleep came early, believe me.
Breakfast too imposed the ‘club of others’ feeling though somehow daylight made it more difficult to ignore intruders and we had a pleasant if brief conversation. A few days more and maybe we would even have become assimilated and, who knows, may even have become the life of the party! We sidled off before tackling that one … life, let alone a holiday, is too short. Mu is beautiful yet, in my opinion , only for the brave …( if you are not a French surfer that is.)

Hi Louise,
If you have a driving license you could hire a car or motorbike. For us, we don't have any license. So we hire a car with a driver for our family for a full day which cost around 50usd.
Yes, Bintang is closest to the pool and restaurant.
Yes that's correct the Bintang Villa is just before the restaurant and pool, and has views out to the ocean. I didn't have a look inside so I can't comment on the layout.
