Hotel's Favorite
The Asa Maia is a truly exceptional place - we came for an eight-day/seven night EXHALE package. In every detail of this 10-room property you will see owner Martha Booke's brilliance, attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, exquisite aesthetic and connection to Bali. Guests sleep in painstakingly relocated and reassembled traditional east Javanese gladak houses with sloped bamboo roofing. Each gladak has been modernised with gorgeous bathrooms and outdoor showers, sensitive lighting systems and Sumba textiles by Earthline Architects who has also conjured up the AMAZING contrast therapy hot/cold plunge centre, main reception building/spa, sexy gym with all Pilates equipment, heavenly yoga shala, restaurant, divine pool (with steps perfect for reading IN the pool), sauna and ceremonial fire area.
The EXHALE program includes all meals (YUM!), several daily yoga classes with a roster of hand-picked fab teachers - Daniela is a beautifully gifted teacher able to teach at every level - as well as exceptional yoga classes she integrates aspects of classic Pilates mat work and Capoiera, also great Yin and Vinyasa classes by Sarah and Koni are available. Breathwork combined with hot/cold therapy with the truly extraordinary Noah Sherwin is also a transformative experience. All spa treatments in the unpretentious, gorgeous spa (try and have a flower bath) are world-class. In our experience, every member of staff was truly fabulous, going above and beyond. By the end of the week, we felt truly at home. There are not many hotels in the world where you will see the owner dropping by for an infrared sauna and a juice shot. Trust the way each wellness program is designed.
We loved the mix of guests, from (straight and LBGTQIA) couples dropping in for a long weekend, mums and daughters, new mums having a massive rest, cool older couples, design aficionados, fitspos and super casual types. We all sit at a humungous communal table for meals but there is no obligation to mingle if you want to chill. The wifi works really well too - and I found it a great place for thinking, writing and reading.
Located in a perfect spot right near the insanely beautiful beach break at Uluwatu but nestled away from main road traffic and throngs of motorbikes, it's easy to go out for sunset and a nice meal (concierge make great recommendations and they have a golf buggy to shuttle you around) but we chose to stay in all but one night because it was so tranquil and the food was so exquisite - daily specials of Balinese curries made from scratch, all sorts of jamu juices, ginger shots, pandan crepes and power cacao bowls. We love, love, loved our stay so much. Thank you to: Arya, Axel, Chila, Daniela, Giri, Koni, Lina, Maria, Martha, Noah, Purnami, Sandy, Sara, Tanti, Vicky, Yanti and the whole Asa Maia family!

Asa Maia is aesthetically pleasing and cozy, and the service and food are wonderful. The architecture of the place is beautiful and unusual and I had a wonderful hypno-meditation class in the spacious and sunlit yoga room.
The deep tissue massage I had wasn’t strong enough (despite me telling her to use stronger pressure twice) and due to the location of the hotel you can hear live music from neighboring restaurants and nightclubs. The hotel told me that the music would stop by 11pm due to local regulations (the live music did) but the hardcore clubbing music went on until 1am and I couldn’t sleep. I wouldn’t recommend staying there over the weekend if you’re sensitive to noise at bedtime. However, if earplugs work for you and / or you’re one to join the nightclub scene, it’s perfect!

True butique retreat hotel! Secluded yet in very good location of
Uluwatu. True butique hotel with only 10 high-end bungalows, each a work of art and Balinese woodwork craftmanship that uses recycled wood materials combined with modern inserts. Each bungalow has a with an interesting story, sophisticated design combining old and new plus are very spacious with all the amenities you would expect from a five-star hotel. Atmosphere in the resort is very zen and there's all the spa and pampering you can imagine although make sure you book all treatments in advance, we did not have a chance to get any spa treatments due it being fully booked throughout our stay. Yoga us available twice every day although for a small fee.
Huge plus to the complimentary gym access, infrared sauna and both cold and hot plunge pools! Restaurant is very high quality (both breakfast and dinner) and is only for hotel guests so no extra fuzz. Hotel and rooms are also ultra sustainability coutious and you won't find a single piece of plastic anywhere! The beds are super comfy and all the sheets and even bathrobes are made from high-end linen.
Can't recommend this resort enough! We spend amazing 4 nights of our honeymoon here and hoped we could stay longer. Definitely coming back!

Where to start!
From the moment you arrive, you feel the stresses of the journey leave immediately.
You are met with the most friendly and attentive staff who genuinely want to make your stay relaxing and memorable.
The location is ideal - far away from everything yet really just within walking distance or a short drive away from great beaches, restaurants and shops.
Having said that, you don't need to leave The Asa Maia! All that you could wish for is there. The food is made fresh to order and is mostly vegetarian based, they also offer fish. So delicious! I am not vegetarian and still loved all of the food I tried.
Loved that meal times are shared with other guests on a long table - gives you the chance to meet other guests in such a lovely environment.
Just a short stroll to your room from the pool area and you come to your own Javanese bungalow. All individually designed and decorated. Everyone has their own patio with a lounge to sit on and enjoy the sounds of nature. Inside, there is the most comfortable bed I have slept on in a very long time! The bathrooms are beautiful with not a piece of plastic anywhere to be found. Mini bar comes with handmade chips and cookies to enjoy as well as homemade drinks.
I had the pleasure to experience a massage, foot reflexology and a head massage while there - all fantastic. The therapists are so lovely. Don't let their size fool you, small and petite but they have so much strength if a firm massage is what you are looking for! They constantly ask to make sure you are receiving the treatment you want.
The highlight for me was being able to stay in the ice bath for 2 minutes! For someone who hates the cold this was a challenge I did not think I was going to be able to do.
Si, who is a trainer at The Asa Maia, trained us to breath through the cold and was there to help us in the water. If you have never done this then I highly recommend it. I felt so good after this experience. Then into the hot pool and back to the cold! The pools are there use the entire time throughout your stay. They also have an infrared sauna that you can use at any time and a really well thought out gym!
Martha is the owner and she is always around and lovely to chat to and hear her stories. She has created a wonderful retreat where everyone feels welcome and relaxed. Axel is the General Manager and is always making sure you are enjoying your time at The Asa Maia. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay incredible.
The only bad thing was having to leave!
As soon as I can I will be back!

I had an amazing stay at this lush oasis. The Asa Maia is a gorgeous, detail-driven wellness retreat. The architecture, the food, the staff and the amenities are a brilliant combination of Indonesian/Balinese culture and design with the modern offerings for a luxury getaway. My room was a gorgeous Javanese joglo with a fabulous bathroom and outdoor privacy shower. Such special details like fresh ginger juice in the room’s fridge and incredible linen sheets on the bed. The food choices were varied, healthy and absolutely delicious. With the breath work class in the yoga shala and the pampering facial of Biologique Recherche products, I soon forgot any of the stress I may have brought with me. You have to try super chic hot and cold plunge pools! It was a really special treat and am already planning a return visit

The asa maia was such a beautiful experience. The staff were so kind and went above and beyond to help with anything they could. The meals were healthy and delicious. The rooms were very clean and had thoughtful extra touches, whilst maintaining the Balinese architecture which I loved. The outdoor shower was an added bonus (definitely recommend having a shower there, so relaxing. The yoga studio was so beautiful, so much greenery outside you could hear all the surrounding nature and birds, there were yoga and meditation classes available and I really enjoyed the breathwork class, the hot and cold pools, and the hypnosis therapy which was available for extra cost. I feel completely energised from this retreat and I look forward to returning! Thankyou for this incredible experience :)

The Asa Maia is an oasis of peace at the heart of Uluwatu’s surf community. We stayed 3 weeks and although rainy season came down pretty hard, we enjoyed the services the friendly staff and owners provided to the fullest. The authentic joggolo’s are just incredibly cleanily maintained and must do’s are the optional hot-cold therapy and massages. Be sure to rent a motorbike to wander off in the neighborhood and surroundings.
Perfect for anyone looking for a quiet and invigorating holiday!

Not been to Uluwatu region of Bali before. From the little we saw it seems to be very surf and health conscious. We spent the vast majority of our time at The Asa Maia resort. We went for the 'full' program with all meals (mostly vegan - so sets the expectations for people who go there of what it is about), yoga twice a day, Pilates, breath work, guided meditation, contrast therapy, IR sauna so pretty fully occupied.
I was worried I might go hungry but never did. If you dont go for the included meals/activities the meals are available any time time 9pm. There were inexpensive from 70,000 to 130,000 rupee ++.
The seat up itself is beautiful - reception with the yoga studio above and the kitchen dining/ bar below. Only 10 total dwellings apparently transported across from another island with Beautiful bathrooms attached. in lush gardens and a stream with koi. The hot and cold pool in their own 'wells' were perfect. I did not think that the 6 degree pool would be cold enough - it certainly was for me!
Go there if you are wanting a health retreat. All our instructors were great. Often it was just the 2 of us doing yoga and always for Pilates/breathwork. If you just want to relax in beautiful surroundings then fine too. Never saw more that 10 guests at a time.

I’m not sure if it was the expat chatter or the breath work that enticed me to visit ASA MAIA but either way my curiosity was rewarded .
We loved the use of recycled timber’s and the old Javanese house refits that made the rooms so warm and inviting.
The activities , Gym , Sauna , Hot and Cold plunge , Breath works , Yoga etc , well we didn’t have time for all but we did give it a good go.
The team at ASA MAIA made us feel right at home ; we were spoilt .
Can’t wait to return

Just amazing
This has to be the best wellness resort we have stayed in. The management and staff are 5 stars, and many 5 star hotels should come and learn how to look after their guests. Our room was always immaculate and clean. We loved the outdoor shower in our room, and it has an indoor shower as well. Snacks, treats, as well as Nespresso machine and tea always provided. Martha, the owner, and her son Syddarta are always around and mingling with the guests, which is a breath of fresh air. Loved our 5 nights at this amazing resort.
