Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI

Hotel Bahía del Sol has garnered a reputation for its exceptional service, with many guests praising the staff's friendliness and attentiveness, although there have been some reports of slower and less accommodating interactions. The cleanliness of the hotel is generally celebrated, especially the well-maintained grounds and tidy rooms, despite occasional lapses in housekeeping services. The amenities, including the picturesque pool and beachfront access, are popular among guests, although some believe there's room for enhancement. While some travelers critique the rooms for their outdated decor, others find them to be spacious and comfortable. The atmosphere at Hotel Bahía del Sol is often described as laid-back and conducive to relaxation, complete with live music and a tropical ambiance, though a refresh in furnishings could be beneficial. The location is a highlight, offering guests direct access to the beach and proximity to local dining, all while providing stunning sunset vistas, though a few guests feel that nearby amenities are somewhat limited. Opinions on value for money are divided, with some guests considering the hotel's pricing to be on the high side and questioning the refund policy, while others feel the overall experience justifies the cost.

Nice spot. The manicured grounds sport a variety of gorgeous tropical plants, trees, and flowers. We found they offered mediocre food, but the location is very central, so getting to good restaurants (often within walking distance) was not an issue.

My sister and our friend stayed at Bahia for 5 nights and had a dream vacation! The staff and service were all so wonderful (especially Camilla and Jose), the food and drinks are excellent and the resort layout is perfectly charming and sweet. The pool was very well kept and the seating on the grounds was upscale, but also very down to earth and beach-y. With the ocean and beach just at the foot of the resort, it’s easily accessible to go swimming in the ocean and then be back to your lounge chair by the pool in just seconds. The grounds at the resort were immaculate, and the entire property is truly in a lavish jungle with beautiful flora and fauna, as well as wild life. Our room itself was very clean and well kept. Despite it being one of the more basic rooms (it wasn’t the most newly updated or renovated), it sat amongst the tree tops and was all we needed for our stay. Each of the rooms seemed to vary in style, so depending on your preference you could opt for a more basic or upscale type of room. The free breakfast provided every morning was delicious and fresh each day, and the resort restaurant had amazing lunch and dinner menus as well. Playa Portrero in general is such a sweet beach town, and is just a short drive away from others such as Playa Flamingo and is only 30 minutes from exciting Tamarindo. Bahia Del Sol is the perfect place to stay if you want upscale yet down to earth peace, with the exciting night life just a taxi-ride away. 10/10 recommend!!!!

For me five star is often pretentious but this is my five star. Lovely location, nicely arranged well maintained grounds and rooms, great standard of rooms, great service. Good well maintained pool, feet from the Pacific Ocean and vies of pelicans etc. The restaurant is open air with great sunset views and breakfast has variety and something for everyone. Standard of room service is good. This hotel only has 35 rooms and suits couples and those with children looking for a peaceful location.

The Bahia del Sol Beach Front Hotel is perfectly situated on Playa Potrero, has beautiful, immaculate rooms, a fantastic restaurant, and all the amenities you could ask for (including decent wi-fi). What makes it special, however, is the staff. In addition to taking every safety precaution possible in the current CV-19 environment, the employees at Bahai were warm, friendly, and would often go out of their way to help, including in respect to a last-minute unavoidable reservation change. Always, kind, never overbearing, the people here really made the stay in the area something to remember. Pura Vida!

My family of 5 just returned from a week at the Bahia del Sol hotel and truly enjoyed our stay. This was our first visit to Costa Rica but it will certainly not be our last. The Bahia del Sol was a wonderful place to stay and we were so grateful to have discovered it. The property is just beautiful and the vibe is so easy going and relaxed. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We had two neighboring family suites which were totally fine although I believe some of the other rooms are more updated. The breakfast was delicious and the free morning yoga classes under the palapa facing the ocean were fantastic. This was our first experience with a black sand beach (we have always been drawn to the white sugar sand beaches) and once we adjusted, we saw a whole new beauty in the light of the lush green contrasting with the dark sand. The water of Potrero beach is the perfect temperature so we had a blast swimming in the ocean and body surfing the waves and boogie boarding. The waves were not constant so it is also a good beach for young children. (Be sure to have footwear since the dark sand can get very hot! ). My husband and I walked the beach every morning. We also really enjoyed the pool with a sweet waterfall and swim up bar (and great drinks!). And we just loved watching the most spectacular sunsets from the Adirondack chairs lined up on the lawn near the water. The staff and other guests were all so friendly and the hotel location is central to so many other points to visit in Guanacaste and beyond. (To be noted: some friends were staying at a nearby hotel that had a very different feel to it -- big pool with a guy with a microphone leading zumba classes and other games, very little grass and lots of cement with very few umbrellas so it felt very hot and just a feeling of the type of hotel that could be anywhere. We were so happy to return to the calmness, lush greenery and light breezes at the Bahia after we visited their hotel!)

This hotel is perfect for families with its oversized family suites with 2 bedroom/2 baths, kitchen, living room and huge patio!

It can be a little noisy at night being close to clubs but I personally enjoyed the music on the nights it was playing. I also appreciated being easy walking distance to restaurants so the noise was the price for that proximity.

The noise also isn’t bad inside so I think it would be nice for parents with sleeping little ones to enjoy the music and fresh air on the oversized patio while the kids are sleeping.

It’s an excellent location with easy access to excursions and restaurants. It’s right on the beach with an incredible sunset view and offers comfy quality lunge chairs to enjoy the view.

The beach is pretty clean but it is very dark sand. I personally don’t like that sand but it’s on many of the beaches in the area and it’s
certainly nothing that the hotel can change. The do provide a shower by the beach to wash off the sand. The pool is absolutely lovely so that’s an option if you don’t want to swim in the ocean but still enjoy the view of it , which was magnificent! You can also visit
the beaches with lighter sand as all beaches in CR are public and each of them is unique.

The hotel main restaurant is very good. We ate there a few times and enjoyed each meal. A delicious complimentary breakfast is included and the staff is very accommodating if you have special dietary requests.

We also enjoyed the spa services in the small treatment room hidden in the back of the property. It’s not a full spa but the services were excellent.

I think there is no perfect hotel but for me this one met a lot of my requirements so I give it five stars. It’s really lovely without being too fancy and has everything you need to enjoy your vacation. Great value too!

I just got home from vacation with my 16 year old daughter and we had an amazing time. The food and drinks were excellent and the grounds were very well kept. All the staff was great from the manager to bartenders to the grounds keepers. We usually stay in a home or condo when we come to this area but would definitely consider staying here again. They have shampoo, conditioner and soaps in the room that are organic and smell great.

I went to celebrate my engagement and spoil ourselves with a nice hotel for the end of our trip. instead we got served hot dogs as sausages for breakfast, were completely ignored by the staff. The rooms are not clean, glasses were still sticky with previous drinks of other customers. The property has dirty dishes throughout, not cleaned for 24h + by the staff. Housekeeping does not respect the "do not disturb" signs and the beach chairs have stained, smelly cushions that are never cleaned. There was a wasp nest that fell beside the pool, multiple people (including children) were stung, we informed the front desk and it still remained hours later until we made a more serious complaint. The soap in the restaurant bathroom was empty the day we arrived and never refilled during our stay. It costs double what we paid for every other location ( 7 in total) and wasn't worth half. I would never go back, I would never recommend.
The photo attached is of the wasp nest that still remained when we came back from dinner ( everyone leaves, the restaurant and food is horrible). We had informed the front desk when it happened, hours before when we left to eat.

Staff at the front desk were super helpful and nice. We did not have good experiences with the staff at the restaurant. Breakfast was not very good. Several of the closed jam jars had a TON of bugs in them, and this was first thing in the morning when they were just brought out of the kitchen and no one had even opened them. Several staff walked by them over the duration and no one did anything. The food had flies all over them, we did not experience this at any of the other places we stayed at. Rooms were nice and the pool area was great. The beach was incredible! The property itself was gorgeous. The bar has BOGO happy hour from 4-6 but we only heard about this through word of mouth of other guests. There are some pretty awesome restaurants within walking distance so if you do stay here, be sure to explore local places as well.
