A thoughtful, tasteful farm outhouse and stable conversion to a bed n breakfast, (with excellent dinners with a small tasty menu offering) with personal, meaningful, thoughtful reception, service, room furnishings and accommodation. Ticks all the boxes that many " 1st class" establishments cannot do. Don't drive past: but please book, directly is better.

We stopped at Kuilfontein en route to the coast and it was a welcome change from the usual featureless motel accommodation we normally resort to. The farmlands surrounding the cottages provide a scenic backdrop for charming family units, which have been converted from the original farm buildings. We were met by a friendly hostess, who had our dinner waiting (we... More

A warm welcome and introduction is the first promise of a memorable stay. The rooms are tastefully decorated with many little touches. Wi-fi although a little slow worked well and we could catch up with the real world. Guests socialise around a little pub before a scrumptious dinner. The beds and linen are pristine and comfortable, making the night in... More

I often stay here with my hubby or kids when traveling between Jhb and Grahamstown. The rooms are Spartan but comfy - the beds are superb but the floors are tiled and there are showers not baths - which can be a bit chilly in winter- which brings me back to the beds.....,extra comfy and fitted with electric blankets -... What a find! Kuilfontein is not a destination as such, but it serves its purpose as a trip break stopover magnificently. Its location is ideal near the N1 but just far away enough not to hear any traffic. The rooms are tastefully furnished and very comfortable, and the dinner - OMG. The chef is superb, and he produced gourmet dishes.... More

I always stop off en-route from Johannesburg to Knysna as it is too far for me to drive the whole way in one day. I usually stay in Springfontein but decided to try somewhere else this time. I chose the Kuilfontein Stable Cottages as it had received good reviews although it did add 20km to my journey. Well I was... More

Needing some space after a traumatic family event we travelled up from Cape Town to Johannesburg. Kuilfontein stable cottages provided just this. A stylish, warm and cozy overnight was spent with incredible food and attention to detail. all round just a splendid place run by super people. Certainly the best on the N1 between Cape Town and Johannesburg

Arrived in the dark so missed the entrance -no clear signs from the south. Rushed into dinner but a wonderful 3 course winter meal, friendly service in, presumably, a converted stable....felt a bit "tight" in dining area. Room was cosy with all necessary facilities. Breakfast was tasty and buffet style --which would suit everyone, quantity wise. Enjoyed walking around the working... More

Hi there, Thank you for the comments. There are two luxury rooms which are in the converted foaling boxes which are bigger than the normal stable rooms. Kind regards Penny Southey More

We got a warm welcome from Patricia and were soon sitting on the patio outside our cottage enjoying the setting sun with a cup of tea and delicious banana bread. The accommodation is nicely decorated, clean and pleasant with coffee and tea making facilities and as it was rather chilly we were pleased to see the heater was on and... More

We stopped for one night on the way to the Eastern Cape. We booked a luxury double room. It was tastefully furnished and, once we managed to find the extra blanket, we were comfortable and warm during a mid-winter Karoo night. The location is about a kilometre from the N1 freeway, in a pleasant farm environment, so the road noise... More
