If you're expecting Resort lifestyle and service this is not a place for you. If you however want peace and quiet, simple lifestyle and a beautiful beach right outside then I definitely recommend this place. Our cabin was simple but a bit worn down. The Bathroom could use a brush up. But we found the cabin ok for sleeping which is basically what you need it for. Beach is really nice. Beautiful clear blue water with the possibility of snorkeling. It is not the best spot for snorkeling the water is a bit rough and there rocks but you can borrow a life jacket. Food was OK. Again simple is the word that comes to mind. Suggestions for improvements: - a table at the cabinbalcony so you can play cards and games (cabin 11) - wodden beach furniture could use a maddress as they are really hard to lay on - more seafood and fish for dinner

We stayed here for 2 nights and absolutely loved the place. Beautiful Island with a really nice beach just outside the resort. Relaxing and just perfect. The rooms where really clean and you wake up to the sound of waves and singing birds. I really recommend doing Island hopping through the resort with a private boat - fantastic experience!

Cure your jet lag and relax in this rustic, tranquil oasis that is practically your own. Bungalows with beach/ocean views from your terrace, friendly staff (Jem and Sandra!) and great food for being on a remote island. The bungalow rooms are sparsely decorated with a solar powered fan, the island has cold water only and runs on a generator, so charging mobile devices and using WiFi can only happen at certain times of the day, so this is not your place if that is a deal breaker BUT, when can you say you practically had an island to yourself? Put your phone down, strike up a conversation with the guests at the next table and enjoy the moment! Everything we ate was surprisingly delicious (pork medallions w/ curry, pineapple and rice; sweet and sour Chix; Chix w/ mushroom cream sauce and rosti potatoes; breakfast and lunches were great too). There are several hammocks and beach chairs, but never more than 10 people on the beach. A dart board, ping pong table, board games, kayaks (for rent) and several quaint sitting areas around the beautifully lush grounds. There’s also a hiking trail that leads you up and around the resort into the jungle. The bungalows have mosquito nets around the beds, but we never saw one mosquito during our entire stay (and never put on bug spray either, I’d rather not spray poison on my body unnecessarily). All in all this was a very memorable and special place for those seeking something a little off the grid.

If you don't mind being disconnected from the web and cell signal for a few days, this place is for you. I got lucky the first day while snorkeling, I saw a turtle! There are also quite a few fishes and mostly dead corals. The owners are elderly Swiss gentleman and Filipina wife. The staff are very good, as well as the lovely gardens. I got bored there after 2 nights, so I moved to Port Barton beacuse I needed internet connection. The food was very good. They only allow you to use their wifi for 30 minutes per stay for emergency bookings of hotels and flights. I was the only guest at the time, but during the high season they are apparently fully booked. They upgraded me to deluxe room, which had no a/c, only a fan. It was hard for me to sleep at night because of the heat and humidity. Beware of the sand flies, always apply coconut oil generously all over your body. They seem to bite even through rashguard while you're swimming.

If you want to relax, snorkelling and meditate, you have to go there. Only the voice of birds, sea waves (not to big) and some sound of passing boats affair. Cold beer, fresh sea food and helpful owner. You don´t need the air conditional and whole day electricity, because you are in paradise.

We stayed there in Feb 2019. Our room was awful. Like something out of a SAW horror movie..in fact Jigsaw himself would have shuddered at the standard on offer. Apparently our bungalow was a lot nicer than the basic double rooms (can’t imagine what they were like). The bedding was unclean, stained and torn. The net curtains were worryingly yellow. The mosquito net? Full of holes and looked 30 years old complete with dead bugs. The bathroom was so bad that it would look out of place in a prison, floor was dirty, the towels threadbare and walls streaked with white scum and limescale..think train-spotting. Not to mention crawling with ants. We had booked 3 nights there based on the lonely planet write up but bailed after one and stomached the loss. Easier to stomach that than the hideous bed and bathroom for one more day. In fact we even considered sleeping on the beach as an alternative to bedding down on those putrid sheets however due to the hungry mosquito population on the island we decided against it and opted for sleeping on our clothes instead. Dinner is served between 6pm and 7pm..so you better be hungry and quick! Dinner was ok, not “wow” not “holy crap this is good” just.. ok. The dining room area was old and tired with black mould on some of the table cloths. No WIFI connection for customers on the island made our getaway more tricky as we had to go back to Port Barton first and connect there in order book another hotel. We still risked being homeless in the Philippines, doorways would still be better than sleeping in that horrific bed.. The staff were polite but a bit apathetic. This is probably due to the dictatorial attitude of the hotel owner. Twice in one day we were privy to his outbursts, one was at a customer who dared to query how the ice in his drink was frozen and one was to tell a waitress to let the customers sort out their bill alone without her! I also found it very disturbing to have to ring a bell on the table to get their attention at dinner. No where we’ve ever travelled have we had to signal for attention of the wait staff by use of an archaic bell! Usually they come over to make sure everything is to your liking as paid customers, not the case here. Normally Lonely planet guides get things spot on but I really don’t know what on earth they were thinking recommending this place. I think their travel writer on this trip must have been drunk or stoned to think this place deserved highlighting. My skin was literally crawling. We had come from a stunning resort called Sunset Colours which made this experience seem even worse considering what we had there. It was everything that this place is not. They still parade a “Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence”...from 2015!! Seems they felt they didn’t need to clean anything after getting that... Such a shame as the beach and gardens were so beautiful but our accommodation was diabolical to the point where we were compelled to leave first thing the next morning...and had to Pay for the boat trip back to Port Barton...even though they’d have to go there to pick up new guests anyway...and we laughed

Response from Josef Henri L, Guest Relations Manager at Coconut Garden Island Resort

Greetings Ma'am, Thank you so much for your review, we could tell that you are a very traveled person. We are but a small family owned hotel but we do try and do our best and make the stay of our guest as comfortable as can be. We do apologize for your bad experience, if you would have brought these issues to our staff we could have acted upon it and made everything in our power to improve your stay even transferring you to a different cottage. We do apologize for the insects and ants, we have a gigantic jungle behind the resort and we are situated on an island, for the mosquito situation we keep the surroundings clean but we cannot control any of the mosquitoes coming from the jungle. As for the mattress situation, upon seeing your review we checked all our cottages for the mattress in question but we can't find it. And I'm pretty sure we have clean bed sheets over the mattress so you don't lie down on the mattress directly. We do apologize for the dinner time of 6:00 to 7:00 PM that is only the suggested time for dinner, but we can serve as late as 8:00 the reason for this is because we would like to give some of our staff more time to rest, about the comment that the dining room was old and tired, we do apologize if its not to your liking, this is the first time that guests have brought this up. As for the no WIFI situation, we do have WIFI available but it is not up to the standards of the mainland since we have to use satellite internet because we are so far from the nearest cellular tower that's why we don't openly mention it, but some guests have used it to book flights and their next lodgings several times. As for the service boat situation, we only charge P. 375 per person for the trip and that is only to cover for the fuel cost of the boat, we make no income from our boats. Compare it to the P. 1500 that the boats in port barton will charge you to drop you off for 1 way. Any other negative things we have at the resort we will do our best to improve upon them. I hope you are doing well and thank you once again. Sincerely, Coconut Garden Island Resort

Loved everything about our stay here. Rooms scattered all around the property so everything is very private. Plenty of hammocks. Good food. Nice staff. They had a lovely new years feast and bonfire for the guests and staff which was really nice. And there is a cute bunch of animal characters - ducks and the cutest sweetest dogs.

This Island is kept in pristine shape by the owners, the food is excellent and tasty, the staff were very attentive to our needs, rooms cleaned properly, the beach devices. That being said they have no electricity because they are off the grid, but they make up for it by providing solar powered fans, their generator runs from 11am till 1pm and 6pm till 9.30Pm, this is not a bad thing. However we have some suggestions/observations below: 1) WIFI was not forthcoming even when we asked. We wonder if this is a regular thing or something they need to look into. 2) Even if they are using solar panels, we wonder if a minimum of 1 charging point could be installed in the rooms for better guest privacy, the charging points wouldn't take much from the solar panels and can be restricted to 5 volt 2amps sockets to allow charging of phones and personal devices but could restrict anything bigger from being plugged in, say a hair dryer. (Managements words not ours) 😁 3) An additional lock should be added by Management in the rooms to ensure better guest security as the current locks are not meant to withstand excessive force, this is off course strictly as a precaution as the island is safe, but we feel just incase to better insulate management from security issues to guests. Apart from our Observations, we highly recommend this island resort if your looking to get away from it all for a while. We will definitely be visiting in the future

Planned to stay 2 nights but ended up staying a week. The food is delicious and affordable - seriously good, especially considering everything is imported to the island. No cell service or wifi, but the beach could not have been more picturesque. We were upgraded to a deluxe bungalow - visited during the off-season and felt like we had the entire island to ourselves. The staff could not have been friendlier. The place is well manicured and amazingly affordable to take a long vacation. Bring a book or grab one from their little library. There's snorkeling, darts, ping-pong, etc. The rooms are not on the sunset side of the island, but the sunrise is unreal. The only complaint might have been mosquitoes and sand flies, but if that's the price of paradise - so worth it! That's just part of going to a beach that hasn't been overdeveloped. (But don't go sit on the beach without a layer of coconut oil.) Also, they take credit card (with a processing fee), which can be helpful since there's no ATM in Port Barton or anywhere nearby. Highly recommend this place!
