We enjoyed staying in our Curio Bay studio so much that we extended for another night ... and if time had permitted we would have stayed longer! This is high quality self contained accommodation that is right on the beach: excellent bed and bedding, high quality fittings and kitchen equipment and lovely owners. The size and layout of the studio... More

We stayed in the cottage and had the woodfire burner stoked up to the max. What a lovely atmosphere, situated right on the beach, listening to the penquins at night, didn't get to see them though. Shame I missed the fossil forest due to a higher tide, I will just come back in a summer and swim and soak up... More

The best accomodation in the Catlins. We stayed in the boutique studio. This is a luxurious studio with a big and comfy King bed with fine bedlinen. The bathroom is large and with a good shower. There is a fully quipped kitchen incl a big table with chairs and also a washingmachine and dryer. All looks new and is immaculate... More

Excellent accommodation on a beautiful location, however out of reach for internet and mobile telephone. All facilities present and in good shape. Owners were invisible during entire stay. In case of emergency you are on your own with no communication outside. And we saw a penguin closeby during the night

We were very happy with our choice of the Beach House apartment. It was cosy, with a very modern design and well thought out amenities. The bathroom, with its lovely heated floor, was as nice as one you'd find in a top hotel. The bed was very comfortable, great linens. The location, right on the beach, is divine, and after... More

First of all, the Catlins is an area not to be missed in the South Island. Curio Bay is a gem, and we cannot think of a better place to stay than the studios at Curio Bay Boutique Accommodation. Our studio was right on a beautiful, long beach, with hardly anyone besides penguins and dolphins. We had the studio on... More

The self catering accommodation is on the sand dunes and so has direct access to the stunning beach. During our stay we saw dolphins close to the shore and also penguins. There is no wi-fi and no mobile signal so a place to get away from the world. The classic 'bach' has great views across Curio Bay and has a... More

What a place! AMAZING view, you are steps away from the beach. The huge bespoke bed is fantastic! We were privileged and lucky enough to see the Hector dolphins playing in the surf whilst walking on the beach and again from the comfort of the studio. We never heard or seen the penguins which apparently nest under the decking at... More

It is hard to describe just how special and wonderful both Curio Bay and the Studio is. The Studio was large, beautifully furnished and equipped and was set right on the beach. The bed was amazingly comfortable and we lay in bed at night with the curtains open just enjoying the sound of the ocean and the noises of the blue... We had been traveling the south island for two weeks...moving in and out of accommodations and suitcases. We having an amazing trip, but truthfully, we were exhausted both mentally and physically...and then we were lucky enough to arrive at Curio Bay. Curio Bay was stunning in the comfort of the accommodations and the beauty and serenity of this isolated beach... More
