The Lodge exceeded our expectations. For a 2 star lodge it is excellent. We had a detached bungalow which was charming and comfortable. While we were there we had a jungle walk, a Jeep safari and an elephant safari all organised by the lodge,
The manager ( I think his name is Gautama ) was exceptional and looked after us perfectly.
The food was good and we were allowed to bring our own wine which we had bought at a nearby supermarket.
Highly recommended. A very pleasant surprise .

Rooms are basic but extremely helpful staff. Our guide Santhosh was really cool and he took us on a great Jungle safari by walk. Our manager also joined us along with another staff. We had plenty of Rhino sitings. The food was also good and thr kitchen staff also very accommodative

We stayed here for two nights as part of a trip around India and Nepal and I can without a doubt say this was the highlight of the whole trip for me.

What I would say for the lodge is enjoy the experience. The rooms are a nice size but very basic with no AC and no real water pressure (although the dribble that came out of the shower was very hot). But it is the feel and experience of this place which set it apart.

The staff are very helpful and cannot do enough to help you. On our first night it was explained that the due to the nature of the hotel being in the jungle some wildlife will get into rooms. We were asekd not to kill any spiders or other creatures but rather ask a member of staff to come and help and they would be more than happy to come and remove the offending bug humanly. Saying that our room had no cobwebs that we could see and we had no unwelcome guests in our room at all.

The food at the lodge is very nice, it is buffet style but there is plenty of it and plenty to choose from. There is also a good range over the nights. Entertainment wise we were also lucky to be there on a night when the men from the local villages came in and performed stick dancing which was really something impressive to see.

Nature wise we went on the elephant safari and also on a walk in the evening and the following day in the afternoon. We were lucky enough to see four rhino in their natural habitat and move very quickly from another who we heard but did not see! We also saw several deer, mongoose and plenty of birds and butterflys.

All in all this was a wonderful experience and I felt safe, secure and well looked after on our entire stay.

I checked in this KGH hotels Maruni Sanctuary Lodge with few of my relatives.
We were in total 16 pax. Came here for 2 nights including the 31st Dec night.
Can u imagine the hotel has no programme for the New Year Night.
After enquiring, we were informed that the kitchen would shut at 9pm and the last orders should be placed before 8 pm.
How can u close the restaurant so early on the New year Eve ??
The rooms are also not very well lit. The AC does not switch to heater mode when u want it to.
The room does not have an electric kettle and the tea coffee set which is compulsory in rooms which deprives us from making tea and coffee in the cold morning. No room service. No room telephone. Very limited staff. If I want anything to eat and drink, you have to come to the restaurant.
Although the chef was quite helpful who cooked a few of vegetarian food on request.
We had our own music system with which we had our own party with the help of other hotel guests.
All in all a below average hotel by the KGH group.
I checked in due to the KGH brand but was disappointed.
Not possible for me to recommend this hotel to anyone.
Thanks
Arun

I almost never write reviews because I’m aware that not all stays will be perfect and at times hotels can be very busy but if you stay at the “Maruni Sanctuary Lodge” you can only blame yourself for an unpleasant experience. I have been traveling on my vacation “holiday” from Thailand, Cambodia, and India before making my way to Nepal. While in Nepal I’ve stayed at “2-Star” and “4-Star” accommodations. After my taxi driver attempted to ask 6 different local residents where the location of the “Maruni Sanctuary Lodge” could be found we finally arrived at the lodge which is situated 2 miles away from the local town. The staff didn’t have the reservation correct upon arrival. The room was booked on “Hotels.com” so apparently the lodge loses a portion of the lodging fee so we were moved a double unit instead of the standard bungalow. When we first entered the room we noticed the following: blood and brown matter on the pillows of each bed, stains on the sheets of both beds, numerous long hairs tangled in one of the towels, blood on the walls of the bathroom, unidentified insects roaming throughout the room and one single fan which we repaired on the low setting for temperature control. The staff was not helpful when bringing these matters to their attention. After heading to the local town for dinner we contacted the lodge for transportation back to their facility and we were told that we would be charged $1000 Rb = $15.00 U.S. dollars for return. We decided to walk back, the next morning we checked out even after paying in advance for 4 nights. After checking out, we received a phone call on our local mobile where one of the staff members of the Maruni attempted to cuss us out in English, a bit amusing but unprofessional.

Again, we are not complaining, just providing fair warning of what you may experience.

I stayed in this peaceful hotel in March 2018 and I found exactly what me and my friend searching for.

We arrived in Chitwan National Park and find out this beautiful hotel surrounded by greenery and trust me when you travel like 4-5 hours on a motorbike from Kathmandu to Pokhara you want to find some very peaceful place and this is the best.

You can relax and eat many types of local dishes and international and the employees of the hotel were very friendly.

They also check the motorcycles for me and my friend before leaving and tell us the best way to return to Kathmandu.

When I return to Nepal I will definitely come back to this hotel.

PS.take time to visit Chitwan National Park it's one of best that I've ever see.

Namaste

Tommaso

The lodge is a little ways out the village in a treed setting, across the road from the community forest and park. Our cabin was quiet and adequately comfortable, with acceptable meals including lots to eat. A highlight was our excellent guide Chada, a local Tharu who knows the many diverse birds well and is was great at spotting animals. On our walks, canoe ride, and all day private jeep tour deep into the park, Chada provided excellent sightings and photographic opportunities.

Staying in Maruni and visiting Chitwan was a lifetime experience!!
The rooms are small but good, well kept and clean. Bathrooms are small in size and doesn’t have racks to keep toiletries. But, those surely have hot water 24 hours and jet spray, which really matters to the Indian tourists.
The best thing in Maruni is the Staff here and the activities they plan. We had outstanding safari day tours and jungle walks. I suggest not to miss the Elephant Washing.
The restaurant is really good and serves best continental food. But for Indian tourists, not only in Maruni, but everywhere in Nepal is impossible to get Rotis! One has to become a Rice eater!

I want to first start with the good stuff! The lodge is very nice, rooms were comfortable, food was great, service was great and the staff was super friendly and helpful! I would give 5 stars to that and I totally recommend Manuri as a lodge to stay!

One complain that I have is that they really do not do a good job cleaning spider webs all over, inside and out the rooms and pretty much every where. They claim they can not keep up but I definitely think they could do a better job. I have spider phobia and if you have one make sure to tell them in advance to really clean your room before you make it there! I was terrified all the time in my room and in all social areas but I understand not everyone cares about spiders (they can be huge though)

My real complains are with the park. The lodge is not the owner of the elephants used for the elephant safaris. They rent them, but if you are an animal lover you are NOT going to like how they treat elephants in this park (not the lodge as they do not own them). I have traveled thru most elephant land in Asia and stayed in elephant camps and I have never seen such a horrible treatment of elephants. They chained both their front legs and can't move. I saw several elephant stations and even in the elephant breading center they were horribly chained. The elephants looked really stressed. They also used an extremely uncomfortable chair and made the elephants carry 4 tourist at time + the mahut. I have never EVER seen more than 2 tourist on an elephant in other countries! I refused to do the elephant safari and chose to loose my money. I complained to the lodge and it is important that people complain so they can improve living conditions for the elephants in this park. I love elephants and for this reason I am not recommending anyone to visit the park or to encourage elephant safaris! Aren't national parks supposed to know about how to protect and not abuse wild life???????

Another negative is that I stayed 3 days and only saw one rhino, one croc and one dear. Honestly I found wild life spotting VERY disappointing. We basically repeated the same walk several times and went to the same river spot twice. They really take you to a small area of the park, therefore I would have chosen to stay just one day instead and not do the same things over and over again. The little town next to the park was lovely and local people made this trip worth it.
