This is a fantastic and unique property in a remote and beautiful part of Myanmar. Away from the tourist spots of Inle Lake. Its close proximity to the village means you can sit and observe every day village life. The property is owned by a local Burmese entrepreneur who gives money back to the village. Kayaking around the local village at sunset was such a highlight, the local people are lovely and its well worth walking to the local village for a really authentic experience without any tourists. The owner took us in his car where we saw the water treatment centre, school and local temple which have all benefited from money from the hotel. If you would like a truly authentic experience, taking a wonder around Phayartaung is a fabulous experience. You can access the property via a 90min boat ride from the opposite side of the lake. The rooms are like water villas on stilts, they are simply but comfortable. Overall a lovely experience for a night or two.

The Inle Sanctuary has far exceeded our expectations. We found a beautiful, very spacious and super clean accommodation, whose ecological concept is exemplary. The view from the private terrace is spectacular. Our host, Aung Min, and his wife do their utmost to offer their guests a wonderful stay away from the tourist crowds. Breakfast and dinner are freshly prepared, served on the large terrace with lake view and are simply delicious. Mr. Aung Min offers transfers from and to Nyaung Shwe and from and to Loikaw as well as very interesting day trips with private guide to the surrounding villages. The tours took us through a beautiful landscape and thanks to our fantastic guide Con Saw we had impressive encounters with the local people who gave us deep insights into their everyday life.

After a 3 hours magic boat trip from the Inle Lake, we discovered the beauty and serenity of the Samkar lake. Approaching the six floating wooden bungalows we could immediately feel the quietness of the place. The warmth welcome from Mr. Min, his wife Mrs Gow and all the staff was the beginning of our perfect holidays. The unforgettable view, the delicious breakfasts and dinners served by the always smiling San, the interesting and varied excursions make our stay a dream.

Well worth the long journey to be in a different world vs Nyaungshwe. Aung min and gor were the best hosts, tour guide and caterer. Amazing beauty, and if you want to see the real Inle lake, and learn about the local culture (genuine fisherman, local weddings, learn about ananism) all in beautifully designed stilted houses. The cooking class on market day is a must. Couldn’t recommend it more, thanks for an amazing stay!!

I loved getting here by boat, staying here one night and leaving by boat again (the trip itself is an experience). There are only six bungalows, right on the lake, plus the restaurant area where the friendly family cooks for you. You can walk to the village for a stroll, not one tourist in sight, or simply lazy around on your deck. They are eco-responsible, too, which only adds to the charm of the place. Recommended.

We had the chance to spend 2 wonderful nights at the Inle Sanctuary. First, we arrived by boat and we must say that this is breathtaking! Everything is so peaceful and lovely. We received a very warm welcome from the hosts & owners of this ecolodge. We enjoyed all the nice services they propose from boat trip on the lake at the sunset to the homemade dinner served prepared by the owner’s wife! We highly recommend also to visit the Monastery & School of the island, and discuss with children and the monks. It is a beautiful project which has been done. Globally we highly recommend this stop during your Myanmar trip: it is a complete « must-have »!

Well, I don't know were to start? Myanmar is a country like no other and the biggest treasure it has is not the gold or the jade or any other natural resource it has and it does have all of those and more, it is the people. Your interaction with them will be the highlight of your day. They are so genuine and welcoming, that you can rarely see in this day and age of mass tourism and mass consumerism. Phayar Taung Sanctuary is about hospitality at his best, from the moment you get off the plane and you meet your car driver, to Mr. Zaw the boat driver that will take on an incredible journey on the Inle and Samka lakes to check in/check out where you will meet the owner Mr.Aung Min, his lovely wife Mrs.Mu Gaw and the team. They practice sustainable tourism. Your electricity and hot water are coming from solar panels, the food is delicious and is locally sourced and cooked by Mrs. Mu Gaw herself. The overwater bungalows have simply amazing views. They have all the amenities you need for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay and they are sparkling clean. We would recommend you to stay at least a few days, so you can have the chance to go on the tours they organize for an experience like no other. I do not have enough words to describe how much we have enjoyed out stay at this place! Beyond words!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at this amazing, unique, peaceful resort. The owner Au Min and his wife Gaw were warm and welcoming and so friendly. Getting there is part of the adventure as it is 3 1/2 hours by boat from the entry port to Inle Lake and located on the peaceful less touristy Samkar Lake. There are sights to visit along the way. We arrived by car on the way there and returned to Inle Lake area by boat. The setting is simply spectacular and we enjoyed our private bungalow on stilts over the lake with magnificent views of the fishermen and abundant bird life ( egrets, cormorants and even kingfishers). The room was beautiful and large with a wonderful bathroom and shower . The resort is sustainable with solar power. The meals cooked by Gaw and served in the open air dining area were delicious. The nearby village and monastery can be visited. Read “Children of the Revolution” by Feroze Dada before you go. We also visited other villages not frequented by tourists, as arranged by Au Min with some local students as guides, which was an incredible authentic experience. One of the highlights was learning how to make rice crackers and visiting with the “rice cracker women” drinking tea and eating rice crackers. I wish we could have stayed longer than 2 nights. As a seasoned traveler having been to many parts of the world, I highly recommend staying at The Inle Sanctuary and exploring the area for an amazing “trip of a lifetime “ experience and my husband and I hope to return some day.

We stayed in this hotel on Nov 20th, for one night. This hotel has only 6 bungalows on the water, all with an amazing view over the Lake. The rooms are spacious, very clean, with a large bathroom and shower room (overlooking the lake), seperate toilet, balcony, large comfortable bed, safe and complimentary water and bathroom products. We arrived at noon, and after lunch we visited the village. On top of the hill is a school with over 1000 students. We were welcomed by the school director and showed around. This place gets hardly any tourists which makes this visit special and authentic. The hotel serves a very tasty lunch (for 7 $), and a likewise dinner (soup, rice with friend vegetables, chicken and porc curry, papaya salad fresh fruits), cooked by the owners wife and served by his 2 sons. The service is very friendly and authentic. They serve all sorts of drinks, from sodas to gin-tonic and even Myanmar wine (from which the white wine is the best). We went to sleep at 21.30 h (it gets dark at 18 h). Although there are wasps and mosquitos, we didn't suffer from them at all. The bungalows have insect-proof windows and a mosquito net over the bed. We had an excellent night of sleep. In the morning we visited the local market, which is opposite the hotel. Breakfast offers pancakes (recommended), toast and eggs (cooked the way you want), fresh fruits, juice and coffee. After breakfast we continued our yourney to Inle Lake.

I completely agree with all the glowing reviews here. We had a delightful stay at Inle Sanctuary. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. We really enjoyed just siting on our balcony, looking at the lake and sipping a beer in the evening as the sun went down. Samkar lake is much quieter and tranquil than Inle lake. We would have liked to have come by boat from Nuangshwe but decided to come by car so we could visit Kakku Pagodas on the way. We loved the boat trip to Pekon, beautiful! Aung Min organised all our transfers and was super fast with all his communications. Although there was a lot more we could have done , it was a very relaxing stay. We were lucky enough to visit while a festival was on at the local monastery & this was lovely and colourful.
