#2 of 5 Specialty lodging in Tatai
The NEPTUNE RIVER BUNGALOWS in Tatai are located right at the Tatai River, about 20km from Koh Kong near the National Road #48 to Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville. Our bungalows are hand crafted, thatch roofed and powered by Solar cells. We set them right into the jungle with lots of space in between - all near the river.

We were staying at Neptune for three nights with a group of 16 people. The booking and arrangements upfront were very easy and Thomas (the host and owner) was very supportive. Also during the stay, there were no complications at all. The bungalows are well fit in their natural surrounding. They are quite simple, but this was exactly what we were looking for. The whole area around the bungalows is quite spacious andinvites you to just let go and to relax. Our personal highlight was the service that we received from the host and his team, who created a familiar and welcoming atmosphere for us!

We stayed there for two nights and really enjoyed it. You get what you expect - nature, silence and jungle. Thomas is a very flexible and chilled host. We took a hike to Tatai waterfall through the jungle with one of the employees and kayaked back. For breakfast you can request either omelette, pancakes and similar so-called classics. Dinners are made by the host and all guests eat together so it's a nice way to socialise with others. We had a blanket but no sheets for it so probably the same blanket has been used by others before, also the pillow cases didn't feel particularly clean, nor did the pillows once I removed the cases before leaving. Other than that no complains. A nice place to switch off and relax.

On our way from the Cambodian coast to the Thai border we needed a place to stay around Koh Kong. When we found Thomas' special place, we decided to spend two nights there to be able to fully benefit from the isolated yet easily accessible location. The bungalows are very individual and just great - basic (no windows or doors, but an own bathroom and comfortable beds with moskito nets and some electricity fed by solar panels) but designed with great care. Thomas and his staff were so nice and accomodating, they even prepared some special food for our little son and the hike to the waterfall was a great experience for everyone. The riverside terrace is a favourite place to swim or just watch the river or an occasional boat pass by. We have never stayed in a place like this before and not sure if anything like it exists elsewhere. Just a wonderful experience! Highly recommended for anybody who can live without Wifi and hot showers for a little while.

We only stayed 1 night as we were not sure if our 5y old daughter would enjoy it... since the 1st moment she was in the boat from Tatai bridge she did not stop :"the best thing ever", "the best fish I ever had" (regarding the barracuda Thomas prepared for dinner), the "excellent" pancakes for breakfast... OMG it was without stopping. We stayed in the room with a seating area outside and it was very very relaxing. During the time it rained, we played games or just relax in the hammock. Thomas and the team indicated the way to a "secret" waterfall, and although there was no much water, it was a fantastic Kayak ride. One of the top things of the short stay was to wake up during the night and see a firefly inside our bungalow. We loved our short stay there and we really want to come back, and try Thomas' pasta :)

We stayed two nights at the natural Paradise, which Thomas has created at the Riverside of the Tatai-River. Very easy to reach from the Tatai-Bridge, where the Captain of Thomas can pick you up at any time, we stayed two nights in one of the simple, very lovely and self-made Bamboohouses, which offers a direct view on the river out of the hammock on its own terrace. The house is surrounded by flowers, waterpalms and coconutrees of the big garden of Thomas. Our favourite spot was the terrace on the river, where we always had breakfast, lunch and dinner with all the guests (there are 4 bamboohouses) together. All day long this place offered such a peaceful and epic atmosphere to us, which started with a jump in the warm water of the river from the terrace's letter in the morning sun and ended with a pot of the fresh made herb tea and a delicious curry, fresh fish or barbecue in the evening, talking to the other guest or writing diary in the candlelight. There was nothing we needed more! Our second day we made a daytrip with Thomas, one of the volunteers and two other guests to the Mangroves. First we took the big boat down the river until we reached a small floating village, from where we started to kayak through the small ways between the beautiful spider-like roots of the Mangroves. For lunch we kayaked back to the small village, had a look to the daily-routine of a typical fishing village and bought some fresh crabs. It was really touching to see how all the people of the village were welcoming Thomas and us! We ended up sitting down at a one of the small local restaurants, shelling the fresh cooked crabs and enjoyed, absolutely satisfied, the feeling of the impressions from the last hours. Thank you all so much again for your warm way of welcoming and sharing your unique place with us and for all the time and effort you are spending in creating a lovely and nature-based place like this!
