We stayed at this place just after Xmas. All was good, bungalow setting surrounded by jungle, quiet environment, good food... kayaks available... We kayaked to the bridge and back and also all the way back from Taitai waterfall. Kayaking on the river is really relaxing, for us this was the best part. Only the waterfront wood work needs some maintenance, dangerous because not stable anymore and steps under water are also missing. But overall this was a very positive experience!
We visited Rainbow lodge from Phnom Penh and stayed for 3 nights. The location of the lodge is along the banks of the Praet river and set against a stunning backdrop of the Cardomam mountains.Elliot and his staff were highly accomodating and welcoming during our stay. Everyone went above and beyond during our stay. The lodge offers many activities including free kayaking which we took up to the Tatai waterfall (a must!) Whilst also providing opportnities for rest and relaxation!
This place is definitely very special. We stayed for 4 nights and committed to travelling 4 hrs there and back, which was quite a committment since we only had 2 weeks in Cambodia. There was a bit of a hairy moment when we first arrived and it sounded as though we wouldn't be able to do any of the trips because there were not enough people staying/routes hadn't been maintained. We wondered what we would do for 3 1/2 days. Luckily we were able to do the waterfall walk and the mangrove tour but would have been keen for another more challeging hike too. The mangrove tour with Gee was one of our highlights in Cambodia, it was incredibly inspiring and we learnt so much. The food was really delicious. The evenings are pretty quiet but we quite enjoyed that. I'd suggest mixing the music up a bit in the restaurant though as it was the same playlist every night. All in all we were glad we made the trip there. The area is absolutely stunning and I hope it stays that way.…
There’s a lot to like about Rainbow Lodge. We were ending a month-long tour and wanted to finish somewhere quiet, natural, and beautiful. This was all those. It offers a good range of activities and free kayaks! I had 2 great massages. The seafood was delicious. We also really enjoyed the other guests. Our host did well at communicating and arranging transportation. However, there was no hot water (a solar shower would be at least tepid). It rained heavily and our bed got quite wet. The only WiFi was in the dining area, and it was only available intermittently. The bar was mostly unstaffed and lightly stocked. Meat dishes were overcooked and heavily salted. Pay Pal for payment cost us ~$40. We felt more well tolerated than welcomed. In 4 days, no one on the staff approached us to ask if we wanted anything. By day, staff gathered on the common area couches with no eye contact or acknowledgement we were there. The host did check to see if we wanted massages or trips but otherwise was rarely seen. When we left, he came to see us off and say it was nice to meet us. Beyond an exchange of names and purchases though, we’d had no interaction. Based on other reviews, I don’t think that’s normally true. We may have hit a bad week. These are all assuredly first-world problems, and some of the issues may be cultural. If we hadn’t just had a month of astonishing hospitality, we might not even have noticed. If you want privacy and welcome limited interaction, this may be a good fit. …
Good communication with Elliot prior to arrival allowing us to book transport in advance. Rooms clean and have mosquito nets. Shower water wasn't heated but was refreshing due to the heat (and the not the only place we stayed without hot water so not a problem for us). We opted for the "easy" jungle walk to Tatai waterfall and boat back. The walk required a fair degree of fitness and agility (very natural jungle trek but needed to be able to duck under and climb over branches/fallen trees). Food was delicious. All home cooked and we definitely didn't go hungry. Not all traditional khmer food so a nice change. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and definitely recommend staying here if you're looking for some peace and quiet and to see a different (less touristy) side to Cambodia.…
