Like a rare butterfly, Cambodia has emerged from a troubled past to show off its beauty. Away from the tourist trail, there is another country, a land of unspoilt virgin forest, rare orchids, startling colours and calls of birds of paradise, secretive jungle creatures and a perfumed air of peace and solitude. This ecological miracle deserves an environmentally friendly resort that captures the imagination while offering the luxury of a four-star boutique resort. Peaceful seclusion, privacy, luxury, exclusivity . . . Welcome to Canvas & Orchids Retreat
Ditto to all the great things that have been said in other reviews. Gorgeous accommodation, delicious food, wonderful people and beautiful scenery. Everyone who works here cares passionately about this place and preserving the nature. This beats some of the more well known places we have visited who suffer from tourism and all the bad it brings ie rubbish, noise, crowds. Nothing was too much trouble. A tranquil oasis. Would love to visit again. Thankyou to everyone of the staff but especially to Paulo and Darong. PS catered perfectly to my coeliac dietary requirements. Much appreciated

Paradise in the middle of the Cambodian rainforest! We were excited to stay here and it certainly didn’t disappoint from start to finish. All of the staff were amazing but particular mention goes to Paolo, Ravi and Darong. The floating tent was fantastic, comfy bed, spacious room every detail was considered from the fans, water and toiletries to the hot flask of water for coffee in the morning and freshly baked cookies left on the outside table at dawn. Food and drink was amazing. Trips such as the waterfall and the dawn trek were beautiful - Darong was so knowledgeable and friendly. Paolo also looked after us taking us via kayak to the local village. Even managed to see fireflies in the early evening. A wonderful place with an impressive focus on sustainability. You won’t regret visiting this gem of a place!…

What a surprise. This was certainly our best stay whilst touring Cambodia for 2 weeks. We were slightly concerned given that the temperatures were high (38.C) and there was no air conditioning on hand. We had booked an eco-experience but only once you arrive in Cambodia from a very long and cold UK winter, can you appreciate how HOT it can really get in Cambodia. With this in mind, Anna and Paulo have really thought through how to make their guests as comfortable as possible. Large standing fans throughout the resort have been strategically placed to provide a respite from the heat at all times. Genius. Our floating tent rooms were brilliant. Every little detail had been thought through and carefully explained. The beds were super comfortable and everything just worked well. We loved the fact that they recycled glass bottles and popped them in the fridge to make sure we always had a fresh supply of filtered water. The same goes for the restaurant. Filtered water was always dutifully topped up - at NO EXTRA cost. These details go a long way to make single use plastic a thing of the past in the hotel. Our 14 year old son asked for a fishing rod - perfectly supplied with fresh shrimp too. The open plan kitchen provide an array of freshly prepared food throughout the day. The bar is stocked well and the drinks are made with flair and love. The staff, under Anna's direction really do work together and it shows as everything works! The staff really do look like the love what they are doing. The day trip to the waterfalls were brilliantly organised. It would take too long to write about every detail the team thought of to make the day such a memorable on. At $28 pp including lunch, we wished we'd stayed 3 days to take advantage of all the other trips on offer. The fireflies before dinner - a trip on a longboat that was gifted to all guests was such a highlight. The boys took the kayak's out, life vests are provided for all guests, gowns, great toiletries and even filtered water to brush your teeth with. I loved the details explaining the provenance of many of the items in our room - the overall message that they try and really pull together to upcycle, recycle and protect the environment. Well done Team Orchid! The only negativity - we only stayed for one full day and 2 nights! What was out tour operator thinking?!…

We loved our 3 days at Canvas & Orchid and it was well worth the 5 hour drive from Phnom Penh and the 4 hour drive to Sihanoukville. The tents on the river are great (Maldives in Cambodia !!) : they are large, got decent fans (not AC but that really was OK) and you can sunbathe on the decking and swim in the river. The staff are super friendly and passionate about their country and the river. The food was some of the best that we had in Cambodia and the bar makes great cocktails. And there are plenty of activities : we had a day at the waterfalls including kayaking half way back which was a lot of fun and a morning jungle walk All in all a very special place that shows you are very different side to Cambodia to the normal tourist route.

The 4 Rivers Floating Lodge or Canvas and Orchids vacation retreat is lovely. The tent my husband and I stayed in was clean and had all the necessary items…..2 fans and comfy bed and great shower etc. and no air conditioning! The temperature each day was 92-96 F. Hot! The activities were varied and we did most of them. The early morning climb was a bit rough and we saw no wildlife or birds. The visit to the nearby school was great. Children were darling! Food at the lodge was excellent. Watch out for mosquitoes at night! Bring your repellent. You can go swimming in the river right off your deck. Anna is the hostess and is absolutely lovely! Her stories of survival of the resort are amazing.

A beautiful place with extremely helpful friendly staff. The ethos of the retreat trying to be as ecological as possible was very encouraging. Nothing was too much trouble. Very relaxing interlude in our otherwise hectic holiday. Enjoyed swimming in the pools behind the waterfalls.

A long journey to get there but really worth it. The food was so good and all the staff were very friendly and kind including Bona and Paulo and too many others to mention. Our tent on stilts was amazing with direct access to a terrace and the river plus extensive jungle views. They do so much to support their local young people and communities. Would really recommend a stay there
