In 2003 we celebrated our honeymoon in Bora Bora and after we always talked about coming back. For our 20th wedding anniversary we chose to come back and visit Moorea and I can't say enough about the staff at the Sofitel in Moorea. Their attentiveness to making our stay the most enjoyable it could be was beyond expectations. I would like to specifically mention Tatiana and Rauhia in how they provided excellent service and how they remembered our names when they saw my wife Regina and I. We were treated as more than just guests, which made our stay so much more personal. We highly recommend the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort when coming to visit Moorea.

Thoroughly enjoyed our Christmas vacation at Sofitel Moorea - a little slice of paradise. First time in French Polynesia, usually traveling for beach vacations extensively through the Caribbean and Mexico. First off, the island is beautiful, the locals are helpful and friendly, and the French influence in the cuisine really takes the local dining up a notch. After going around and around on which of the major three resorts to stay with, we are so pleased to have chosen Sofitel. After some exploring of the others, Manava is more local with a great Polynesian Village Feel, which would seem perfectly suitable as a substitute, but it has a very small beach area with a view completely blocked by over-water bungalows. It does have a great pool area though. The other brand name hotel, Hilton, would have probably been a disappointment to us. It backs right up to the road and the grounds and infrastructure look 25 years past their prime, with a very small beach area and what seemed like a more Americanized product. We prefer the more European feel of Sofitel - making us feel like we actually traveled somewhere more "exotic". Unlike the others, Sofitel has a magnificent white sand beach with the lagoon hosting a myriad of different varieties of tropical fish in some of the clearest and bluest water anywhere. We splurged our first two nights in a horizon over-water bungalow where we were greeted with a bottle of proper champagne, treats, and the most uninterrupted views of Tahiti along with all the colorful fish below. We then moved to a garden bungalow with a fabulous view of the beach, angled and just one row behind the beachfront category. Daily breakfast is truly a very nice spread with plenty of variety on offer including the best croissants and pain au chocolat. Dinner at the Restaurant K was really great with a seven course tasting menu. Being essentially France, wine prices are quite reasonable too. It was a pleasure to meet Chef Frederic who has been there for less than a year but looking to expand the options of cuisine on the property. Definitely make the effort to visit some of the off property restaurants around the island as well. Even a trip to the Champion market will impress American foodies and have you in awe about the entire half aisle dedicated to foie gras. Housekeeping was thorough and efficient, Porter service very helpful and attentive, and Reception always smiling and quick to answer questions or solve problems. Wonderful massages are available at the spa using a variety of techniques. The ladies were fabulous! To top it all off, the grounds are immaculately kept with bright and fragrant flora throughout the gardens. This is a beach resort, and yes some areas may be a tad weathered from the elements but everything is clean and well manicured, with clearly a regular maintenance plan in place. Our only request to take it up a notch would be to allocate some focus on the beach service - do a little early morning maintenance of the beach loungers and such - organizing and straightening them daily while providing cushions for the ones that do not have them. As well, providing staff to handle in-seat drink service. Bar revenue might increase with more attention in this area. That said, there were always loungers available and the resort never felt crowded. Now, maybe Bora Bora has some “perfect” properties, but most likely for triple the price. So, for seasoned travelers who are looking to envoy a vacation and not dwell on the minor imperfections and glitches that come along with travel, Sofitel Moorea is a great choice.

The beach and views are incredible. Truly a beautiful resort. But that’s about it when it comes to the upsides. The food is TERRIBLE. Not one thing I ate here I would even consider “okay”. I opted for food shacks on the side of the highways instead of this awful “five star” food after trying it a few times with fail. Sofitel, do better.

We enjoyed our stay, more or less, but we had a good idea what to expect based on prior visits to the property for lunch and beach activities. First off, the food is absolutely abysmal. There were four adults in our party, and we stayed four nights, eating breakfast and lunch daily, and dinner on two occasions. The breakfast buffet is fine, it's not as elaborate as you'll find elsewhere, but there are enough options to get your fill. Lunch and dinner are another matter altogether. Of the items we tried among our group, only one dish was good, a couple were inedible, and the rest were mediocre at best. Frankly, Accor and the hotel management should be embarrassed by the quality of the food, but you're a captive on the resort unless you have a car, so perhaps they don't feel the need. There are local restaurants who will pick you up and drop you off after dinner, so it's worth doing that research and giving them your business rather than wasting your money at the Sofitel restaurant. We stayed in an ocean view bungalow, and it was fine if a bit dated. The only major concern we had was that it was so dark you just couldn't see at night, even with all the lights on. But that's a relatively minor quibble. The bed, pillows, and bedding were comfortable, and the A/C worked very well. The highlights of the property are the overall grounds, the staff, and the beach. The beach is lovely, easiest the nicest we've found at any resort in F.P., the grounds are immaculate and very well laid out, and the staff is exceptionally warm and friendly. They really made the visit much more enjoyable, so there is something right going on with staffing to be sure. If they could just find a more competent food and beverage manager, this could easily become a regular destination for us, but until that happens, we won't return.

For what we’re paying for our room, I was expecting an overall better experience. This morning was our first breakfast here and I asked for creamer for my coffee twice. It never came, so, I got up from the table and found some milk from the buffet instead. Came back to my table and a rooster was on top of my table eating my food. Had to get up AGAIN and get brand new food. (Never received my creamer). The menus and restaurant choices are not great and are a bit limited. The staff here is nice but nowhere as attentive as they were at Intercontinental in Tahiti. I was really surprised and impressed with the staff and food at Intercontinental and thought the service and food would be just as good here but it’s just not. I don’t know if they’re understaffed here or what. Tonight we went to happy hour at the bar and I ordered a banana split and it took about 45 minutes to get it after reminding the waitress. Idk, I just don’t know what the problem is here. To come all this way and spend all this money for this kind of service is beyond disappointing.

Very big disappointment after having stayed in this so-called 5 * establishment, even if we know perfectly well that the classification in French Polynesia does not correspond to the international standards of the hotel business. Apart from its exceptional location on Temae beach in Moorea, this hotel is very far from offering services corresponding to those of a hotel of this category. This hotel is aging and deserves to be completely renovated. Whether it is the bungalow where we were staying or the dining room, the facilities are dated and do not present any standard. The furniture in the bungalow is outdated and not comfortable, especially the sun lounger on the terrace and the two armchairs. It is no pleasure to stay on the deck of the bungalow, a shame when you know the price of these bungalows. In terms of catering, it is undoubtedly the worst… Dishes without any originality, tasteless food, a very disappointing menu with minimums. One would expect much, much better. No pleasure to eat at this table… better to eat elsewhere, other restaurants offer much superior services for the same price or even less. What saves this hotel is its location and the kind and attentive Polynesian staff. A very disappointing SOFITEL hotel in this corner of paradise. From our point of view, it is urgent that the ACCOR group undertake major renovation and improvement work on this hotel, particularly and especially in terms of catering, which is inconceivable for this type of hotel.

top quality hotel, best on the island IMO Sofitel is a high-end chain and it shows here the bungalows are fantastic, everything is top notch, beds, pillows, chairs. the lower price options like "beach view bungalow" are great choices drinks are expensive and food is too but that's what you get at a resort like this. beach had quite a few rocks on it; they should really be raking those up at a resort of this class. among the FP locations we stayed at (bora, Taihiti, here), this was the standout property. Moorea is fantastic and gives you the "Bora" experience for considerably less cash

I’m a bit late writing this review, but this hotel is 5/5! We stayed at the overwater bungalow and it was spacious and beautiful. The bed was comfortable, the balcony was big, if you want to snorkel, you can just go down the ladder from your balcony. The water was clear, the views were amazing and the food was great. Great place for a romantic getaway.

Amazing views, polite people don’t expect good food The selection of food really leaves a lot to be desired at room, service, breakfast lunch and dinner to be a five-star establishment. It’s like being in the cafeteria you sacrifice all that for the amazing views.
