We stayed here two nights in a superior overwater bungalow. I the bungalow was really nice, the bed was comfy and the shower was nice and hot. The complimentary mini bar is great and the room was decorated with hibiscus flowers when we checked in. We were also given fresh lei’s at check in and shell necklaces at check out. They have live music every night which is awesome too. The only bad thing is this- The food here is overpriced and not worth it so we ordered pizza from our favorite place called allo pizza. They delivered it to the gate house and I paid cash. When we went to check out we discovered a 5000 xpf charge for “bringing in outside food” that was apparently 2500 xpf per pizza. The most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of! So our $50 usd pizza (with the restaurant’s delivery charge) plus the hotels $50 charge. We were not aware of this being a rule so we disputed it. We were told the entrance of the resort has a sign stating this outside food rule but it was dark out and nobody said anything. If we knew about this charge we would have ate at the hotel restaurant and avoided this debacle. It’s obvious that their hotel restaurants are terrible and they feel the need to charge you exorbitant fees for bringing in outside food. We ate at Rudy’s the night before and they will pick you up for free and their food is amazing. So just eat there!

The Sofitel Kia Ora was clean and beautiful and completely exceeded our expectations. The staff was incredibly friendly and willing to help with anything we needed. We were upgraded to overwater bungalows when we arrived, which made the experience even better! The beach at this resort is gorgeous and the water was calm, which made it easy to relax and snorkel in the lagoon. From the beach there is a beautiful view of Tahiti and there are tons of coral gardens right in the lagoon that make for great snorkeling. Staff was very friendly and the activities desk was great – they had tons of gear (snorkels, paddle boards, kayaks) that were free for us to use. We booked through Venture Tahiti and we are very likely to return to this resort again the next time we travel to French Polynesia.

We had a wonderful time at the Sofitel and were quite happy with the resort. We stayed in an overwater bungalow which was reasonably priced for an overwater bungalow and had a window in the floor where you could view the ocean below. The room had a nice high ceiling and air conditioning, and the rain shower was lovely. Snorkeling at the Sofitel was quite good, and there is a lot of coral and a variety of fish to see. We brought our own masks and snorkels but were able to borrow fins from the dive shop with no problem. The breakfast buffet was quite impressive, and it was the best breakfast buffet we had while traveling in both Moorea and Bora Bora. Lunch and dinner were less impressive, and a piña colada we ordered was downright terrible, but frankly we didn’t come to French Polynesia for a culinary holiday so the food not being fantastic wasn’t a huge deal for us. Overall, I’d definitely recommend the Sofitel if you’re on Moorea. Get the breakfast included option when you book your room, because there aren’t any restaurants within walking distance and the hotel buffet is amazing.

We stayed at Sofitel in the over the water luxury bungalows. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with a lush tropical feel. It was amazing to stay in the bungalows. We loved seeing fish as we walked to our room. The snorkeling right off the bungalows was better than on some tours. The bed was comfortable and mini bar well stocked with included drinks. The breakfast was amazing and well worth the price. The tapas at the bar were really good but the dinner at Pure was just okay. We had Polynesian massages at the Spa which was one of the best I have had. The people were so nice we didn't want to leave. We did visit the Hilton for comparison and we did not think it was as nice as Sofitel.

We just spent 4 nights here in bungalow 417, a beachfront bungalow located toward the northeast end of the beach (the left side as you stand on beach looking toward Tahiti). We absolutely loved every second of our stay. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was easily large enough for two to get dressed, and being just a few steps from some truly great snorkeling was a real treat. The double glass doors offer a breathtaking view of Tahiti that we especially enjoyed every morning. We chose not to get an OTW bungalow because snorkeling is a major activity for us and previous reviews cautioned about a fairly strong current that moves from NE to SW, and this was definitely the case. Swimming from the OTWs to the north would have been difficult. Our package included a daily breakfast and dinner at Pure. The breakfast was outstanding and lacked nothing at all. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the dinner selections were & the portion sizes were just right for us. The beef filet and the crème brûlée were delicious! Beverages were not included in the package so we brought a few our own alcoholic beverages in prepackaged pouches (from Walmart 😃). A can of Coke will cost you 800 XPF. CNN was the only English speaking TV channel we found, but we didn’t care to watch TV while in paradise. Every member of the staff that we encountered was friendly, always greeted you with a smile, and was willing to help. The grounds were immaculate and offered some stunning views. The beach is beautiful but water shoes are needed as there is some corals present. We have been to several Sandals and Secrets resorts in the Caribbean over the last dozen years or so, but this resort had everything we want in a vacation spot. If it was closer to home (Oklahoma), we would definitely choose this place over any other we’ve been to. It was magnificent in every way. Thank you, Sofitel!

The resort is very dated, especially the bathrooms: rust on the door handles, light switches, toilet paper holder, towel holders, in the shower. In the shower also the silicone sealing was coming off and a lot of mold. Same with the mirrors. The room looked like it hasn’t been cleaned in a long time: a lot of dust everywhere, especially in the corners and tables and light switches. The telephone was disgustingly dirty and also very bad connection. The house keeping service is extremely slow, asked for beach towels and other stuff for the room that were missing, and took 4 hours and 2 phone calls and 2 messages on the resort app. Talking about the restaurant, expect the Polynesian dance nights, it looks like a school food court: table so close to each other that you can listen to other conversation, tables and chair dirty and made by plastic, and the food is mediocre, lack of taste, flat taste. The restaurant staff is very slow as well, maybe understaffed. No fitness center. No water fountain or shop nearby, if your thirsty the only solution is to by there a water bottle that cost 610CPF ~6$ for 1 L…. I am not gonna complain about the bugs cause I understand it’s tropical location and it’s normal. Need to say that the staff at the reception and at the concierge were extremely kind and prompt to fulfill any request. The sea is beautiful but the resort management kinda ruin it.

Great option. We stayed at both Hilton and Sofitel. The location to the ferry and rental care is better at Sofitel. We stayed at OWB. The rooms are dated. Even the renovated ones are dated. We stayed in room 110. Great views. Service was good except the concierge. They really could care less. One was emailing while taking to me, the other referred me to look at the “books on the table” when I asked about the safari tours. Buffet show was great. Food much better for dinner and show better than Hilton. Spa was great. We got a massage and it was great. The beach is beautiful and they have great activities on site. Overall a good option close to the ferry. I would choose Hilton but it might be based on preference.

Maybe yet, you will consider coming back and we would be delighted to welcoming you again in the future. With best regards,

This is the dream. A room over the water, snorkeling off your deck, amazing food, and a wonderful staff. I could continue to gush but it would all be good. Yes, the sunsets are beautiful, drinks tasty, and this was paradise. A car would be useful. There is no hotel transfer from the ferry to the hotel (cabs available).
