2021 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best
SeVi Boutique Hotel is situated on the NE part of the spice island of Zanzibar, directly opposite of the spectacular atoll of Mnemba, a fantastic diving and snorkeling area. With only 13 Bungalows and one Villa nestled amidst our lush tropical gardens, located directly on an isolated bay, you enjoy the exclusivity of your personal piece of paradise. Unwind with stunning views of the Indian Ocean that unfolds from turquoise to ocean-blue and the pristine white sand of the beach. A setting, not only to reconnect with loved ones but also with your inner self. When the tide is low (twice daily), a “reef walk” is an excellent way to explore the oceans treasures and admire the amazing corals revealed. Our staff will be happy to organize this for you. When tide is high, you can swim and snorkel right in front of the hotel. Take a dhow and enjoy crystal water snorkeling or join our in-house PADI center for a diving trip through one of the world’s most famous underwater reserves.

What a place!! Everything was perfect! Rooms, staff, food, management, landscapes… We felt at home and it was very difficult to leave after spending there a couple of days. We were living in a postcard and got all the stress out. Asante Sana Ashraf, Georges, Dainess, Sharida, Hussein, Juma, Khamis, Violet and all!

BEST HOTEL FOR YOUR ZANZIBAR GETAWAY! My fiancé and I traveled here and fell in love with SeVi Boutique Hotel. The best part - THE STAFF! George, Ashraf, Dainess, Oscar, Esther, Jackline, Abraham, and the many others who made our vacation a dream come true! + Always genuine, greeted with a smile and conversation about the trip + Always welcomed after excursions & trips + Best Customer Service 24/7 + Transport planning + Effortless day/night excursion planning + Special dining per your request + ALWAYS felt safe in & around SeVi + ALWAYS BOOK TAXIS THROUGH THEM - they were cheaper than any alternative + Spacious & Clean accommodations + Complimentary massages! + Beautifully kept grounds + BEST SAND BEACH IN ZANZIBAR - Sand was like cooking flour. Amazing white powder + Tons of hammocks/beach chairs to lie in + Super clean pools - there are many - with towels provided + Beach access! Also, raked clean from any seaweed from the night before :) **friendly cats to pet as well for animal lovers. Say hi to “Jambo” within the grounds :)) Dainess & Oscar at the front really went above & beyond! You must ask for them along with Ashraf. 🙏 Felt like a home away from home. CAN’T WAIT TO HOPEFULLY RETURN!

The place is warming, calm, and very romantic atmosphere. The people were welcoming and lovely . The waiters were great at serving us specially Rashid, he is so helpful and ready to serve any orders or request we did. Ashraf the operation manager was great, he did very well in making the place more comfortable for us and ready to serve our needs, even the phone chargers 😉.

The hotel was beautifully decorated, with well manicured gardens and landscape. The bungalow's design was beautiful like a perfect tropical paradise. The hotel was small and has a lot of privacy. The staff were so hospitable and helpful. They were attentive during breakfast and lunch. The front office staff was so sweet she helped us arrange transportation to Nungwi twice. We were offered with complimentary massage, unfortunately we weren't able to use it as we had other plans. The price of the hotel is comparable to a 5 star hotel but lacks some 5 star amenities/touches. The bed linens were of poor quality, filthy with stain marks, no duvets/comforters and we had to use our own blankets just to get through the night. No lotion included in their bathroom amenities. The water from the sink smelled so bad. The mezzanine floor was useless as there was no furniture in that area. The food was just alright; we had lunch in the restaurant once then ate somewhere else afterwards. There were a lot of cats and every morning I see them sleeping in the hammock hence I never used it again. Sometimes they even jump on your lap while eating at the restaurant. I am not against cats but this is not something I expect on a hotel this expensive. But the major letdown for me was that although the hotel is situated in front of the beach, it was not swimmable at all! It was very dirty, full of seaweeds/sea grass and sea urchins. Even when we tried to walk to the nearby village it was still the same. If you want to swim in the sea, you have to pay extra to go to Mnemba Island or to Nungwi 😅 Also, keep in mind that at around 3am-4am you will be woken up by the prayer call from the mosque of the nearby village. It was not a bad hotel but if I have to do it all over again, I would stay in Nungwi.

Our stay in the Sevi Boutique Hotel was definitely positive. The tranquility of the place, the incredible staff and the food (lunch and dinner) are what gives this hotel such a renowned reputation, and I concur with that. All staff were incredibly helpful and friendly from front desk to the restaurant, we really appreciate their efforts throughout our time there. I would thus recommend them to be congratulated and thanked on my behalf to whomever reads this. We have stayed in 5 hotels around Zanzibar previously, and it is fair to say that we have stayed in higher quality hotels elsewhere. The main reason for this is the bungalow. The bungalow we had was sold as 'beach view' but it should be renamed 'restaurant view', it is set back from the beach and lacks privacy and intimacy (you can see inside the bungalow from sitting in the restaurant). Within the bungalow, the space is huge but has questionable features. There is a bizarre upstairs gallery which consists of a large desk and chair, but also two single beds, one with no mattress and one with. We didn't use this space once. The bed is comfortable but was let down by the linen. On our first night I had to request to change it as it was stained in numerous places and had many holes in, thanks again to the great front of house staff for helping us so quickly. Also, half way through our final night, I noticed what looked like a blood stain on the bed sheet in the corner. Not what you expect considering the price paid. The bathroom is also large but also lacks quality. The shower had no hot water when we arrived, I asked reception if we had access to hot water as I know it can be of premium in the area, and they told me they would switch on the very hot water for us. Again as grateful as I am for this help, the 'very hot' water would only last 2 minutes maximum, so we had short showers throughout our stay. The cleanliness in the bathroom also was disappointing, the floor was often wet because of condensation and humidity but didn't seem to be draining anywhere quickly, and there were dead bugs in the bathroom for the duration of our stay (despite staff entering the room twice a day). Not much to say about the breakfast, it was nice with good variety, however the fruit juice was watered down and the pancakes often undercooked and poached eggs overcooked. Again this wasn't a huge deal but it highlights the lack of quality executed. All in all, we had a nice time at Sevi but it didn't quite tick all our boxes considering the expectations we had reading other reviews, and for the price paid.

Dear J. thank you kindly for this positive review, your kind words on our Team are greatly appreciated. I would really like to look into the issues you mention in detail, your input could possibly help us improve. Therefore, in case you have a few minutes, it would be great if you could drop me a line at the email address of our hotel. Just a couple of quick replies to clarify 2 issues: 1. The "bizarre upstairs gallery" you refer to, is the mezzanine, clearly to be seen on photos online and it is meant as a working space (hence the desk and chair) and extra space by tripple/quadruple occupancy. 2. "you can see inside the bungalow from sitting in the restaurant" With bungalows spaced at least 15 meters apart from each other, with trees and greenery between them and with the nearest of them being 50+ meters from the restaurant, (even farther for the sea view rooms) I believe that our bungalows offer privacy to the maximum extent possible. I am truly sorry this didn't suffice in your case. We will try to find solutions for further improvement though. Once again, many thanks for being with us, the crew send their best and I personally look forward to you contacting me George & the SeVi Boutique Hotel Team
