Detailed Reviews
Could not fault the location or the staff here. The location is literally right on the beach and perfect walking distance to shops, bars and restaurants. The staff were so lovely and helpful too. The room was nice, clean but the aircon wasn’t great (fine if on for a while). The toilet water and shower was often brown too but I don’t think this could really be helped. Our room also got cleaned which we appreciate but when we came back the door was just left open, as well as the balcony door on the ground floor. Everything was ok but anyone could have walked in to all our things.
The hotel restaurant was really good!

Great service of the people, everybody is always in the good mood and help you anytime. Great breakfast, good place if you go to Full Moon Party. Room is okay, bed comfy, but the fan and couple of lights didn’t work. A little expensive and over rated called a resort

We were having a long walk on the beach & decided to pop in here for a beer. Ordered two Singa’s , one large & one small.
The large one wasn’t cold, they had opened it & refused to change it, despite my complaints.
Ended up leaving most of it & walked out. Dump!

This hotel is in fantastic location. 7/11 next door, Indian restaurants nearby and good food and booze at hotel as well.
It is a bit aged property but serves the purpose well as it son the best part of the beach. Staff were always smiling and helpful and took good care of us. It was the owner that came running to help us with the luggage(citing that we were with infants) and later staff picked it up from him. That shows the owner's dedication to lead with an example :). We loved our stay here and will highly recommend this place.
Breakfast was OK but limited vegetarian options (something we faced across koh phagnan).
Avoid 1st floor rooms if you are traveling with kids as balcony won't be safe for them.

Sunrise Resort cancelled my reservations for New Year's Eve / Full Moon Party!!!! I reserved three rooms months ago and got an amazing rate of $25/room - my friends and I were all set to go. Sunrise canceled my rooms that I booked via Agoda and are giving the reason that they are "renovating rooms" so they can't have us stay there. Which is total bull$@#$ - they're now fully booked with rooms that they are charging 5x more for. And they've canceled on me a month before New Year's Eve on Koh Phangan ... so now it's impossible to stay in Haad Rin for the Full Moon New Year's Eve. What a horrible experience with their reservations team. Shame on you guys.

They advertise buy one get one cocktailse during happy hours...when we got hours they were in glasses containing around 1/3 of the normal cocktail volume. We mentioned this to the staff, they told us they don't have big glasses, they serve them only outside happy hours. Avoid.

I had an amazing time at Sunrise Resort. The staffs were wonderful, the food was great. The service, the view of the beach was wonderful. The surrounding as well everything was walking distance. This is my second time coming here and alot has change and been renovated from the last time. My room was cozy and spacious and clean. The most important part of my stay was me being comfortable and safe there. Thanks to Joe (General Manager) for keeping a check on me in the mist of my stay. Oh and the Full Moon Party was lit!!!! The next time I go back there I will book a villa on beach. I highly recommend this place for anybody who will visit Koh Phangan!!! Thanks again!!!

The place is a dump. Nothing like the photos they are advertising with. We left after on night. Air conditioner didn’t work, ceiling fan did not work, dirty room, dirty hotel grounds, run down, rude staff. Bathroom was the type you leave your sandals on in the shower. Look at the pictures

The location of this hotel is great, right on beach, middle of town, easy access to everything. We were also able to bargain for the price of the room which was great. We had a queen bed, air-con and hot water that worked. Room was cleaned everyday.
The problem with this place lies in the fact that on arrival, my partner opened the fridge door to replace minibar drinks with our own bought stock and a bottle fell to smash on the tiles. Immediately, we requested help to clean it up, gave the man a good tip only to find out on departure that we have to pay for it.
For starters, we didn't drink it nor had any intention of drinking it. 120 baht? Get real. The drink costs 30 in a 7/11 AND the receptionist admitted to it being an accident, but it was still 'our responsibility". We argued the point of walking into reception and having the roof collapse, do we have to pay for that too?
Not at all happy about being ripped off. Of course, we didn't pay for it, rather replaced with the 30 baht 7/11 bottle. Its the prinicpal of the matter.
So yes, be very careful with breaking or ruining anything in this place. Like wasps, they'll sting you and sting you again for good measure.
Didn't try the food and the pool bar doesn't open until 2pm.
We do not rate this place very highly. They certainly let themselves down.
Happy travels!

2 stars based on location & large, buffet breakfast.
3 stars deducted for unfriendly service, filthy pool, noise & WAY over-inflated prices during full moon.
Yes, this place is in the CENTRE of the Full Moon Party action. While dancing the night away, it was nice to be able to zip back to our hotel room to use our toilet. With that said-- they do not allow anyone who has been Body Painted into rooms (they will fine you 1000 baht if they catch you!) so that benefit is mute if you have partaken in any painting.
There is a pool... but it's very dirty and always over run with large groups of rowdy party-goers who have zero consideration for others at the pool. Also, they have a grand total of 6 pool-side recliners and at least 3 of those are broken & dirty. The 'swim up bar' is run by a couple of very unfriendly employees, and the prices are 25% higher than any other restaurant/bar on the main street. The price you pay for 'convenience', I suppose?
There are signs all over the 'resort' ("resort"-- what a joke!) about how they will fine you for this, and for that, and blahblahblah. Heed these warnings-- they really WILL. Contest the charges all you like, the staff will not budge. They are BRUTAL & relentless with the fines. Keep your towels, bedding & room absolutely free of any stains.
Then there is the noise. I almost hate to complain about it because OBVIOUSLY during Full Moon there is going to be noise. But I am not even talking about the Beach Music. I'm talking about the people running in the halls every single night screaming and laughing, the neighbours who blast music and video games (video games!?!) at 4am with no correction from Staff. It seems that you can make as much noise as you like here and be as much of an jerk as you desire, as long as you don't leave any spots on the towels.
The icing on the cake is that we have yet to encounter a single friendly employee. There is one Front Desk lady who has very good English (which is, I must admit, quite helpful) but nobody here is going to greet you with a smile. All this makes the $80+ a night, with a minimum of a 5 night stay, that they charge during Full Moon a very bitter pill to swallow.
If you are going to screw me over, you could at least do it with a smile on your face.
All in all, Sunrise 'Resort' has been the worse accommodation experience that we have had during our 5-week long Thailand experience. I would NOT recommend it. Surely there are other, better run facilities, just as centrally located, to stay at while you Full-Moon-Your-Face-Off.
