We were booked on another Pension which had no parking and was a "hikers" place. Helvetia handles all check-ins for other places. We asked if the had a room and got one in another building on the property. The transferred our reservation and the young Gentleman at the desk was VERY helpful and spoke fluent English. Breakfast was served at Helvetia with large selection of cheeses, cold cuts, vegan items, eggs, muesli and many other things. We had a fantastic dinner at the Hotel, great food and wine and exceptional service. Location is close to all starting points for hiking, right on the shores of the river ELBE

I was eyeing a few hotels in the Bad Schandau area, and we lucked out with Helvetia! It's located in Schmilka, a small village a bit further down the river from Bad Schandau. It's easy to get a bus there, just take the 252 from the Bad Schandau train station. Schmilka is much quieter (and in my opinion, more beautiful) than other towns along the river. It's also a short walk to a really great bakery, outdoor beer garden, and hiking trails. The hotel sits right along the river and has lounge chairs out on the lawn. It has a really nice outdoor eating space, which was lovely in the evenings, and a few really nice dining rooms for breakfast and dinner. Which, speaking of, were delicious! Breakfast was more of your standard buffet (with more options than expected), but dinner was above and beyond. It's typically four-courses, but on Sundays they do a bbq outside with lots of different grilled meats and fish and salads. There's an option to rent bikes from the hotel for 9 euro for the day (do it, the biking is so nice along the river!). If you can, stay in one of the rooms that faces the river. We wish we could have! All in all, would highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a relaxed, quiet weekend.

Sitting on the river Elbe with deliciouse food and drinks after whole day biking or hiking... heaven on earth. Loved the food and the bio quality. The place for Yoga and activities like this could be a bit better (more space and atmosphere). Had two massage - and loved it too.

Really disappointing place in a very beautiful setting. If it was rated two stars it would have fitted what we found. The exterior of the hotel is in need of attention, and has a slightly neglected feel. Coming in the foyer is small and dark and we faced piles luggage and lots of clutter. There was a musty smell and We had that heart sinking moment thinking it was more like a walkers hostel than a 4 star hotel. The bedroom was tiny , with a stunning view out across the Elba but filled with too big furniture and only one bedside table. The chairs upholstered in real pony hide with the fur on was the final horrid touch. The bathroom was tiny with a not properly fitting sliding door. It all felt unclean and uncared for. My husband was so upset he wanted to leave, but we decided to stay over the weekend and leave two days earlier than anticipated. The breakfast was all laid out on a small table, no covering for cheeses or meats, with flies and wasps around. The only cooked items were cold in a small covered tray..hard boiled eggs, nasty looking scrambled egg, and something that looked like a porridge. The evening meal was ok, but again all the salads were laid out on the small table uncovered. The cooking was unimaginative with one evening a meal starting with salad and the , next course salad. Another evening we had a dessert of chocolate mousse followed by chocolate mousse the day after. We really felt angry at the way the expectation of the brochure and web plus four stars set our expectation and was not what we found. The place could be a beautiful experience. The location is stunning. It's is a bio hotel, with no wifi .no TV in our room, and the internet in the hotel foyer is dreadful. We could pick up occasional 3 G

From the street not a stricking place, but inside i felt like at home, very cosy and tastefully, a very special place, very good vegan fresh meals with, a great view at the river, in the sunny days i could stay all the day outside trying all the home made icecreams.

This hotel far exceeded my expectations. The food was some of the best I had while in Germany. No fried pork here, also no Wifi (although they will let you use their computer in a pinch), just a great place to detox, unwind and get some GREAT exercise hiking in the exceptional National Park. There are a couple of trail heads right across the street from the hotel. There are serious hikers who go here and weather you want a 3 hour hike or a full day hike the area provides for all. There are many beautiful sandstone rock formations in the area that reward your climb (some can be intense-in a good way!) and the trails are clearly marked. I feel like we were the only non-German tourists in the area which was refreshing and the people we met seemed impressed that we had chosen this hotel for our holiday. Between the pleasant rooms, with tasteful and interesting decor (big images made from old postcards of the area) wonderful hospitality and the very excellent food I can't reccommend this little hotel enough. Oh! And the also have a Naturopath on staff who gives massages and other natural treatments on the top floor of the hotel. If you are looking for a "Bio" (green) experience in this area this is the place for you.

This hotel provided the perfect balance at the conclusion of a 1000 km bicycle trip from Hamburg. Quietly located at the Elbe river surrounded by the famous Elbsandstein Gebirge it offers small but comfortable rooms, a beautiful cosy lounge and fantastic Bio cuisine at the Strandgut restaurant. The chef created a surprise menue for us that was a unique experience. Romantic seating provided with a Lagerfeuer at the river complemented by Bio cocktails. The Elbe River Tour is a "must do" experience by bicycle as it showcases the green, friendly and hospitable part of Germany without mass tourism. The York hotel in Hamburg and the Helvetia in Schmilka are good hotels from star to finish.

We have spend 4 days in this wonderful hotel. Located just right on the Czech border, it allows you to explore the both worlds of national park Czech saxon Switzerland. The hotel provides much better value than many of the more expensive hotels on the Czech side. Everything is just wonderful - great breakfast, organic garden, sauna, tasty organic dinner. Nice rooms, privilleged settings just on the bank of river Elbe/Labe, walking/biking/driving disnance to any major attraction. We just had a blast. The only small issue is proximity to railway tracks on the other side of the river - but we both like trains and this was not a problem.
