My partner and I stayed here for 10 nights in March. I checked the reviews before and was a bit nervous but I can honestly say I found any negativity in previous reviews to be incorrect. The staff are amazing, rooms/grounds are cleaned and kept immaculate, linens and towels changed every single day, atmosphere is perfection, and no lack of hot water. It is a quiet piece of heaven nestled in an extremely busy area. Perfect location for people who like to travel and explore. Cannot recommend this place enough!
We came here to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived Charlie was there to check us in and he was very friendly and helpful. We saw him at various times during our stay and he was always friendly and witty. Angel helped us with our bags and he was also very friendly each time we saw him. I had a super relaxing hot stones massage from Rubi. I would recommend her and the massage. Fernanda researched and organised an excursion for us. Fernanda was very patient while we worked out what we wanted to do and when. We had her details on Whatsapp so we could ask her questions in advance and she always replied. I loved the selection at the breakfast buffet. I would only say I wished the hot options were hot rather than just warm. This didn't stop me from having the hot selection though as it was always tasty. Alongside hot there was an omelette station (I didn't try this) plus selections of cakes, fruit, cereals and juice. The team in the restaurant kept the coffee coming and the coffee was also very nice. A shout out to Gabriel and Carla who made us feel welcome each morning. The restaurant is actually Ipanema's Brazilian Grill which serves amazing food in the evening but I was disappointed that it was the Brazillian grill or eat out. Not that much of a hardship as there are loads of eateries nearby but it would have been nice to have a choice. Although Magic Blue is a beautiful and super relaxing hotel, there were a few things which bugged me (didn't stop us from enjoying our stay). The bar area is lacking in atmosphere. It didn't feel like a place where you could hang out and be sociable. Food at the bar is only available up to 8pm. It's difficult to know if it's so dead there because people prefer to go to nearby bars or whether people go to the nearby bars because Magic Blue's is so dead. For that reason we only sat in the bar area once during our 10-day stay, although we did order drinks from there to have at the pool. The gardens and pool area are very well maintained (I loved the landscaping), but the stairs to our rooms and our terrace could have been cleaned better. We were on the 3rd floor in one of the master suites and there was bird droppings at a corner of our terrace when we arrived and up until we left 10 days later. The droppings looked like they had been there for a while. Birds did seem to like perching on the railings, all the more reason to do a proper clean each day I think. While we liked our room, it was clearly evident where repairs have been done. It looks like there was no attempt to make good where, for example, there might have been a leak in the past. For the price of the rooms I think more care should be taken with presentation. We saw the same in the spa. It doesn't have to be seamless but at least try not to make the end result look botched. All in all we like and would recommend Magic Blue. The staff made all the difference.…
Trying to make a reservation on website. It takes you to a third party yo book and when you give them your dates and information it takes you to another screen where is just locks up. Anybody experience this? I’ve never seen anything so unprofessional.
The Good: The grounds around the pool area of this hotel are very beautiful and well kept. It is located just off the busier parts of downtown and makes for easy walking to restaurants, coffee shops ( I highly recommend MiDoggo) and even Walmart. There is a park nearby that has food or craft vendor market most evenings. The not "free breakfast included" (see the not so good comments) is delicious and the restaurant staff are attentive and very friendly. Housekeeping staff are genuinely kind and eager to assist. Carlos the concierge was by far the most helpful and engaging of the all front desk staff. He provided wonderful input on any questions we had and was genuinely enjoyable to visit with. He is an asset to Magic Blue! The Not So Good: Upon check in, many of the amenities we had been promised as included (namely breakfast and spa services )in our hotel cost were, in fact, only available for an additional fee. I have included a screenshot of their Trip Advisor listing which advertises free breakfast and spa services credit. The screenshot was taken after our stay was completed, so even though we brought it to management's attention, those features are still being advertised. It is a boutique hotel and it is their prerogative to honor or not honor any additional amenities or services they desire. My advice would be to directly correspond with the hotel prior to your arrival so that you have written record from staff on site as to what is included in your price. The breakfast buffet as I mentioned was yummy and a decent price of $7 per person. We did encounter other guests that were under the impression that breakfast was included in the price of the hotel room. The rooms have more of a dormitory feel, rather than a boutique hotel/spa ambiance, but the beds are comfy and the rooms quiet. Some days we had plenty of hot water and other days not so much. Hopefully, you are not holed up in your room and are out enjoying beautiful Playa and the room style will not matter that much to you. Again, as long as you know exactly what you are getting, I am sure you will enjoy your stay. It is a blessing to travel and we had a great time visiting Playa!…
Amazing hotel. Very quiet (feels secluded) even thought it's very central. The pool (area) is amazing. The spa is lovely as well (bit small though). Breakfast is also good. All and all, lovely stay and would definitely recommend. Minor point: while checking out, we had to pay for one coffee we made in the room with the small machine that was in the room. Not used to paying for small things like these in hotels.
From the moment we checked in or tried to check in to the magic blue hotel there was an issue we had to wait a half an hour because it was only one person at the checkout desk and they have to give out a lot of unnecessary information. When you first walk into the lobby you’ll notice that the couches are very old and the bleach that’s strange them from the person washing the floor carelessly. When we finally got to our room changed into our swimsuits and went down to the bar for a happy hour drink they told us so no it’s too late for happy hour drinks due to the fact that it took so long to check in. I guess that was the start of this not so fabulous hotel. The rooms are outdated the pool area is definitely the highlight of this hotel even though this is an adult only facility that pool closes at 8 PM. For which marketed as a five-star hotel all the lounge chairs are ripped i’m in dire need of replacement. Breakfast was mediocre with some hard-boiled eggs some fresh fruit and some unidentifiable type of food. Instead of giving you a packet when you arrive with your breakfast coupons and towels for the pool they make you go back into the lobby for everything that you need it took me 10 minutes to get a breakfast coupon. Why? I did notice some chocolate croissants and rice pudding. Old tasting and stale. Be warned that if you stay in this hotel Coco bongo is on the corner and they had given me a room that faces Coco bongo and it gets extremely loud at night if you’re going to try to sleep here you might have a problem if you’re given a room facing the street. That’s why they supply ear plugs. The staff was extremely rude and refused to accommodate us even in a small way. There’s no water that’s free in the room. Not even to brush your teeth. There’s an Nespresso maker but you have to pay 35 pesos if you want coffee in the room. For the price that you will pay in this hotel it’s a shame that they must nickel and dime you to squeeze everything out. I tried to get a massage here I had an $80 credit that they refused to honor only 37.50 for a $100 massage The inside spa area you are limited to 30 minutes and that’s all. Not enough time to use a sauna a Jacuzzi and a hot tub. And it must be booked in advance and if you’re only staying for one day you may not get that chance. Don’t even bother to waste your time in the spa they give you 30 minutes and they rush you from the showers to a lukewarm hot tub. A joke. No hot water in the shower and the spa water was cold too. All I could say is there’s so many beautiful hotels here that are very accommodating and happy to have you but every single person that we encountered here said no to any small request that we might’ve had. The front desk staff is downright rude, upitty and in need of retraining. We had booked two rooms since we have friends traveling with us and we were going to rebook for extra nights but now we are busy packing our bags and moving to a different hotel for about a quarter of the price that is much more accommodating. We asked for a late check out and they did say no. I asked them if they had rooms for tomorrow if they would extend it and they said no they didn’t have rooms yet the rooms were available online. From what I can see they mostly cater to Europeans here that are used to snooty service and being nickeled and dime to death. The grounds are pretty it looks like a treehouse and there’s a hammock outside each room but it doesn’t make up for the incompetence of the staff. And lack of amenities. Wifi is on and off too Ugh! Front desk lady shuy was the absolute worst. We lost a card key and they wanted 15$ This is a 3 star hotel don’t be fooled!…
Stay away! If I could give 0 stars I would. THIS RUINED OUR HONEYMOON. We Initially booked for 5 nights and only stayed 1. On the second day of staying we found huge cockroaches in the room. We had to cancel our stay and book elsewhere. Also, check the receipts before signing anything at all. They decide to tip themselves which is super unprofessional. I will make sure to tell everyone and write on everything for people to stay away. The bathroom was gross and window is moldy. Please stay away. Ruined our honeymoon.
This beautiful resort is located in the heart of Playa Del Carmen and is a true sanctuary with everything you could want in a small but amazing resort, awesome reception area, wonderful pool, bar and restaurant. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. A true paradise location.
Amazing value for money! Straight across from the famed Coco Bongo you'd be pressed to guess this jewel of a sanctuary can be so calm and accomodating. The laid back cabin-like rooms around the central lush green courtyard and pool make this a real boutique experience: it is truly an oasis amidst the concrete jungle. Everything was on point and the Spa, although small, has everything you need to feel pampered; from the accomodations, hidro circuit and overall decor and ambiance, to the lovely, professional, dedicated staff. Me and my girl were on cloud 9 while celebrating our 7th anniversary! Highly recommend!
Very good experience during my stay at the hotel. Adult environment in a very nice hotel and surrounded by all the activity of Playa del Carmen, with a very central location and very friendly staff. I highlight the cleanliness of the rooms, the variety in the breakfast buffet, the pool and massage area and the very good price-quality ratio of the cocktails.
