Our hotel and restaurant is idyllically located in the small harbor in the village Bekkjarvik, just a short boat ride away from the city center of Bergen. The Hotel has been the heart of this fishing village since it was built in the 1600`s. Today Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri still provides a calm harbor for all travelers, both Norwegian and foreign. Most people visit us to enjoy great food and drinks surrounded by the beautiful nature the west coast of Norway has to offer. We are very proud of our kitchen team, managed by the twin brothers Ørjan & Arnt Johannessen. The nature surrounding Bekkjarvik is wild and generous; the sea provides us with fresh fish, shellfish and other seafood, while the moors and woods are home to deer and wild sheep, both of which are excellent game meat, and of course we also have local herbs and mushrooms. Arnt, Ørjan and the kitchen team create the menu each day with one goal in mind: to provide their guests with an unforgettable dining experience

Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri offers a unique high quality experience both in terms of food and stay. The old guest house from the 17th century offers a great "yesteryear athmosphere" that invites you to wind down, enjoy a drink in the bar, look forward to an excellent dinner, or take a stroll outdoor to enjoy the local sights. Location is great, but not everything in Bekkjarvik. The guest house is the centre of everything in Bekkjarvik, and has been so for at least 400 years. The kitchen is superb, and on level with the best you will find in Norway! That is though to be expected, as a World champion Bocuse d'Or-chef resides in the kitchen - whose produce is your enjoyment :) We stayed two nights, and enjoyed two very different 5 course dinners, where not even one course was a repeat from the day before. The wine cellar contains a wide selection of good quality wines. Our recommendation would be to rather chose the wines from the list than selecting the wine menu that is offered. The reception in the guest house was very helpful with suggesting and booking our activities, including a faboulous RIB-safari to Brandasund/Slåtterøy light house and the unique local archipelago (Brandasund Kultur & Fritid), a great hike to the local mountain and viewpoint, and introducing the quaint little fishery museum on the opposite side of the bay. Will definitely come again - next time with spouse for a romantic get-away!

Based on the location, pictures, price and reviews of the restaurant, my expectations were high. Sadly, reality didn't live up to them. The single room I lived in could have been found in any average hotel, and the halibut dinner was served with a too salty sauce and slightly burnt vegetables.

We had a splendid lunch at Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri. We dis not expect that high standard. Superb food in a cozy little hotel. The old tavern is dated way back, but is updated to a small hotel with a restaurant, art galleri and a stage for live music. We’ll be back!

We stayed in a double room at Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri and ate at the restaurant while passing through Western Norway in July. It is a historic hotel with a good reputation, and a price to match - and our expectations were based on that. A lot of the hotel's reputation in recent years rides on Ørjan Johannessen's victory in Bocuse d'Or in 2015, and it clearly shows - cooking jackets, photographs, diplomas, and cookbooks are very prominently displayed. Other Bocuse winners have gone on to do great things. Based on our experience, it felt as though Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri are trying to use the fame as a draw, rather than build on it to provide (and continually improve) a top-class experience for visitors. Check-in was in a somewhat crowded lobby, with a single overworked person on staff (he also tended the bar in the next room). We got a room in what appears to be the main building (separate building from the restaurant and check-in), on the 2nd floor. The building did not appear to be staffed, and the outer doors were somewhat randomly locked. At checkout we had to take the back exit or take the steep stair through the basement, as the front door was locked and apparently un-lockable from the inside. This was also a bit of a concern from a safety perspective. While our room was the most expensive on our entire trip, it was also by far the smallest, with nowhere to store luggage, and a bathroom to match. The bed filled most of the space. A tiny sink left no room for personal toiletries, and amenities were generally lacking. The bed and linen was of average quality. It is clearly an old room in an old house, but at a rate of 2000+ kr / night we expected better and more thoughtful solutions, to utilise the space available. For breakfast, service was quite non-existent. The buffet was closed due to COVID, so there was only table-service, and as in the restaurant the night before, we were continually overlooked by the servers, leading to very long waits for anything to happen. The food itself was pretty good, although the so-called waffles had never seen anything resembling a waffle-iron (small lapper or sveler would have been a more apt term). At checkout, the rate on the bill was 400 NOK higher than what we had booked - luckily I spotted it, and was given the correct rate when I objected. I was planning to give the hotel additional feedback at check-out, as we were very disappointed, but the receptionist did not ask about our stay, and generally seemed too busy to talk, so I never had the opportunity to give it there and then.

We are very sorry that you had a bad experience at our hotel. It was a bit too busy for us this summer so the staff was stressed at times. The rooms in our concept are in many different sizes, this is how it is when it comes to being transformed with today's facilities. Sorry that the wrong price code was entered for your room, but good that it was discovered in time. We more than welcome you back and we can promise you an upgraded room and good service.Best regards Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri v/Asta
