Detailed Reviews
Located just outside Hofn, this hotel is well-placed as a stopping point for an Iceland road trip.
The hotel was clean, tidy and warm. The reception was welcoming - we checked in early before departing to Hofn to explore and get dinner.
We stayed on the north side of the hotel facing the glacier. To wake up with a view across fields, on to snowy mountains, was amazing. It would be a fantastic location to view the northern lights but it was cloudy the time we visited. 🙁
The breakfast was fine.
We would not hesitate to stay again. 😃👍

Just a short drive outside of Höfn, which was great. It was very isolated and not really near any hustle and bustle which is right up my alley and made for a very quiet night and great sleep. The rooms were good (apparently I forgot to take a picture of the main sleeping area, whoops!), and the staff were excellent. Breakfast was fantastic as well. Would stay here again for sure. Bonus points for their shower - it had a small lip/curb so that the floor didn't get completely soaked like some other hotels I'd stayed at! :D

The Lilya guesthouse is a modest property of about a dozen units in a modern building on a working farm. The owner has a service center with a small restaurant serving breakfast and dinner. All in all clean safe and functional - what more could you ask for in the country 😀

I choose this hotel because it was advertised that it had a restaurant. When we got there we were told the restaurant was closed, and this dispite receiving a welcome mail with the menu included three days prior. The staff was unapologetic and unhelpful dispite the hotel being in the middle of knowhere.
The hotel seems new but poorly done. No lamps in the room, and our room was facing the parking lot so it was either light or privacy.
They WiFi wasn’t working properly.
Very much below the standard to other hotels we have stayed and in Iceland

We really enjoyed our stay there very much.
The staff is very helpful, kind and very nice people, flexible. It is great that they offer free coffee and tea.
Our room was big and cosy and had an amazing view. We particularly liked the bathroom and the shower, it was modern and spacious. We could also see the northern lights from our room.
The hotel’s location is great, it offers amazing views.
We had to leave early in the morning and we appreciated very much that they prepared us a lunch bag.
Additionally, great value for money!

The rooms at the guesthouse are clearly new. There was a lot of space in the room and the shower was great. The light and ventilator in the bathroom were supposed to go on and off with a sensor. Too bad the ventilator didn’t went off (bad night sleep) and there was no staff. Told the girl in the morning, she clearly didn’t care.
It was not clearly communicated upfront that the restaurant would be closed because of covid measures. Would be better so one could think about that sooner. All-in all no personal touch or care, so will not go there again.

Lilja Guesthouse was a great place for us to rest and relax after a long day on the road from Reykjavik. We had taken the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon 2 Day Tour with Hidden Iceland and so having the option to stay overnight at the guesthouse instead of returning to the city was perfect. We enjoyed our stay at this simple but quaint hotel. Our room was very clean, we had the necessary amenities, and we absolutely fell in love with the view of the countryside. We spent a significant amount of time in Reykjavik so it was wonderful to look out the window and enjoy the beauty of the countryside during the long summer evening. My son and I fondest memory was not just seeing the glacier but watching a group of sheep running down the road from our hotel window. My son made a video of that moment and we still watch it and smile months later. In addition to the view the beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed every moment of relaxing after our evening dinner.
Hidden Iceland already had everything prearranged for us so I am not sure of the room rate however, I was satisfied and happy for the simple things: a clean room, hot water, a great view, and a restaurant for dinner. My son is a picky eater however, due to our stay at Lilja Guesthouse he finally branched out and tried something new. It was his first time trying lamb from the restaurant and he loved it. He continues to eat lamb to this day. We also enjoyed our dessert. The following morning we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast of fruits and bread. Lilja Guesthouse is a small family operated establishment however, we were provided all the simple things that a guest would desire. Please be mindful that this hotel is not a Four Seasons but a small business that desires to help visitors to Iceland enjoy their short stay as they journey through the area to see the glacier, Diamond Beach, and other nearby attractions. Guesthouses are definitely one option for saving money when visiting Iceland which definitely ranks among the more expensive vacation destinations.

We stayed for one night at the old building at this guesthouse.
We had a really bad experience...
One of the rooms had the TV removed and in the other it didn't work.
We could hear what was going on on the other room like if we were in there...
The power sockets were poorly placed and the curtains didn't cover the light coming form outside.
And the restaurant... We payed almost 4000 ISK for each Lobster tail sandwiches.
The sandwiches were really a ripoff, small and badly prepared, at the same price we payed for some great meals in top notch restaurants.
I discourage anyone to go to this Guesthouse !

The Lilja Guesthouse is a very basic property with a lovely view of the glacier. The room was very clean but with no frills. Everything was on a timer so if you weren't fast enough you were left in the dark. There was no fridge in the room or shampoo in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable (although the pillows were very flat) and we had good sleep as it was very quiet.
The breakfast was a very minimal buffet with a la carte options cooked to order.
We found the staff to be helpful and pleasant.

We were booked here as part of a two-day tour and arrived during a storm for our one night stay and were so surprised to wake up to two beautiful glaciers outside our windows once the storm had cleared the next day. The rooms were simple but spacious and the large windows made the best views of seeing the Northern Lights on our night there. We didn't even have to leave our room to get amazing Northern Lights views. This is a gorgeous spot to stay. Waking up to all the sheep was so nice and calming. We ate dinner and breakfast here as well and the staff was very friendly. Food was good! We had Netflix on our tv, which was nice as well. A kettle was in our room as well. My only complaint would be that the pillows were very thin, but the bed was very comfortable otherwise.

There is not one in the room and I do not think there’s one in the dining area. But they were very nice there and I believe if you ask them to microwave something for you they would do it with their private one in their chef’s kitchen.
No the rooms do not have any facilities but the staff are very helpful.
