We popped in for just the one night on our way down through France to the South West, stopping over to break the journey... In truth the macro-circumstances were unpromising... COVID; and into October - so getting out of season... ...the benefit of which was we had a beautiful room (Room8) which we chose after being given the choice of room with bath or shower... I had been a little concerned when booking as this is one of those rooms in the attic/loft space, and being 6ft 4 I often find myself cramped in such spaces as they invariably have a beam or other compromise... needn't have worried! The room was divine! Tastefully and carefully renovated... charming but modern at the same time... and even for me no height worries whatsoever! The welcome from the staff at check in was professional yet warm, and that tone of care and attention stayed throughout our (very short) stay... indeed prior to arriving we had been in touch many times and all questions/requests were dealt with speedily and efficiently. On arrival my wife spotted that they can arrange for massages... despite it being late on a Saturday we managed to arrange for a visit from the masseuse on the Sunday morning, which was a lovely thing, especially as many businesses in October (or often any time) won't do anything on a Sunday, so rest assured that facility will be available to you should you choose... and if you choose - you won't be disappointed. The feedback was that the massage was one of the best ever! There is no restaurant on site - which is always a disappointment. In our case, due to the tiredeness of travel etc we stayed in for their "restauration" in our room... we chose from a small menu on arrival and at the allotted time the food arrived... typically pre-prepared items with the main course interestingly cooked sous-vide in a glass pot/jar... despite the limitations of such a set up the starters (foie gras and soup) and desserts (cheesecake - but not as you know it) were really excellent; the main course suffered for the method but was still tasty. Breakfast was excellent too - you can often tell the quality of an establishment by the quality of its bread/pastry basket - and this was truly delicious. Served to us all alone in the breakfast room, decorated with animal print all over and some interesting frescos... a style that worked (but only in a hotel!!). The place really is beautiful... from the rooms to the grounds (I enjoyed a lovely tranquil Saturday evening stroll) and the service... this was EXACTLY what we needed to break our travels - our only sadness was that we were there for such a short space of time. Gorgeous! (Oh - and the bed and bed linen were AMAZING too!!) Anything not great...? Very very tiny niggle - great to have a wireless/alarm with bluetooth to stream music - but the sound quality was quite tinny.

Very nice hotel. Lodgings are actually next door to the Chateau, in a contemporary decorated building. There is a nice breakfast area and small sculpture garden in front of the hotel. There's also a nice pool. Staff are excellent. The hotel does not offer lunch or dinner, but they will provide a recommendation list. Le Mans town centre is 15 minutes drive . Nor is there a bar. Rooms are well kept with new bathrooms.

We thank you for this warm feedback. In fact, we do not have a restaurant but we offer a quality catering menu. Our lounge-bar area and the terrace are available until 22:00 every day. We hope to have the opportunity soon to offer you a glass of our rosé wine during your next visit. Regards Isabelle

Traveling often in Le Mans area, we have discovered recently this very nice hotel. The location is very convenient: just few minutes from highway exit, but still in the middle of a very nice countryside and next to a beautiful castle, you'll feel far from the noise and business of the City. More than a hotel, staying at La Groirie is more like staying in a guest house. They are few rooms, each one with is very own tasteful decoration, nice bathrooms ans every comfort you would expect (comfy beds, amenities, ...). The staff is very welcoming and trying his best to make you fell comfortable, with nice advice and attentions. The owner did provide himself a visit of the very beautiful castle whose first floor has been revamped recently. Kindness is a common quality from people in this area, but the staff of the Hotel is putting this reputation to a whole new dimension! The breakfast (continental type) is perfect, with fresh and various food. We had some drinks in the courtyard of the hotel, enjoying the quietness and nice weather. This "hotel" is a gem, which should absolutely be in your shortlist if you plan a visit in the Pays de Loire.

Dear Masterof, Many thanks for this review, we do the best for our guests and we are very excited to welcoming you very soon for a new experience in Domaine de La Groirie. So much to do and visit around and at home: our nice rosaries, bicycle in the country, swimming in our outdoor swimming pool and just take a break and drinking a glass of our wine on the terrasse ...

Others may think its a little picky only giving 4* as so much is excellent but it is the overall experience that is important for me. It is a short drive from the motorway so much easier than a trip into the dreadfully busy Le Mans and easy to find. Free parking almost adjoining the rooms. Wonderfully friendly and professional Manager and staff. Beautifully furnished rooms and bathrooms. Excellent breakfast. Small but nonetheless important points are the lack of lounge areas, bar etc. no restaurant (and none in the local village), large windows that cannot be left open overnight whilst remaining secure coupled with the lack of air-conditioning, no water gratis (albeit this is a pet hate of mine) compounded with the opportunity to purchase one left in the room at 10 euro's. There was a fridge with a bar with a few drinks in but no costs indicated. Very meagre refreshment tray (do plastic stirrers really go with antique furniture and beautiful wall coverings?). No indication of telephone charges or even how to dial inter room or reception. No explanatory guide to the hotel and room services. Readers may feel I am unreasonable but I frequently get all these in much more humble establishments so 4* it remains. Would I stay again, absolutely (if they will have me after reading this) and I will bring the extra's I need!

An amazing place: a moderate 'chateau' on a huge property with easy access from highway and to Le Mans, ... and yet totally quiet. 14 very large guest rooms in a new brand new side building to the chateau, all representing different, royal eras in french history. Amazing attention to detail and period correctness! No expenses saved! Very friendly, family run operation. Very discrete, very considerate. Wonderful walks. Excellent breakfast. A place to return to!
