We stayed at Green Chromide Homestay in Mar 2021. The homestay is hosted by a very welcoming and courteous family, who has stayed at Munroe Island for several years. They know the island in and out. The homestay features a private wooden chalet that overlooks the Kallada River and 2 rooms in their own house located right beside the chalet. We stayed in the wooden chalet. It is pretty spacious and fitted with all modern amenities like AC, geyser, fan, tea/ coffee maker. There's an ensuite bathroom and a small kitchenette as well. The front porch of the chalet gives an incredible view of the Kallada River. The chalet is surrounded by a beautiful garden where they have hung hammocks to relax. The garden also has a riverside patio where meals are served, and it used to be our favourite place from where we watched the fishermen in their boats and locals crossing the river to go to work. The cool breeze from the Kallada River never made us feel too hot, even in the month of March. Our hostess, Sunaina, gave us valuable information about Munroe Island and suggested some lesser-known places to visit. She also arranged an early morning canoe ride on request. She and her family cook delicious meals and serve with lots of love. We had all our meals at the homestay. You can even borrow fishing hooks from the hosts, catch the popular Green Chromide fishes right from the property, and ask the hosts to cook it for you. You can even take their bicycles for a ride if you are interested. All in all, we really had a pleasant stay at Green Chromide Homestay. A big thanks to the family who were on their feet at all times to help and serve us. From the moment we arrived Sunaina and her family did everything to make our stay memorable. The area is so interesting, people so friendly and the food she cooked was delicious. We ate dinner in their garden by the side of the river, went on a sunrise canoe ride and visited the local temple celebrations. There are bikes if you want to explore further but we spent a lot of time walking around the paths beside the canals. Our room was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed and lots of hot water for showers. A great place to stay!
he owners and family were super friendly and could not do enough to ensure our stay was a pleasant one. For the price it's outstanding.... The location on the riverside is spectacular, with hammocks and sheltered dining area. It was bliss to sit there and enjoy dinner and breakfast. The food was terrific, wonderful local dishes including the "green chromide", a local fish. Breakfast was equally enjoyable with omelette along with Kerala options. They booked a boat trip for us. There is a canoe and bikes to use free of charge. The room we had in the house was simple but clean. The lady owner was full of interesting information on the local area. As a host she was outstanding. (Be aware if you ask for the a/c controller it's an extra 400Rs per day. Lots of loud music from nearby temples... although we eventually got to like it...) Eating your meals at the homestay is highly recommended. Excellent communications. In summary, for the price it's punching above its weight... great value and lovely food, delightful family and location. I would not hesitate to return again or recommend to family and friend…
My daughter and I stayed at Green Chromide Homestay for four days where Sunaina and her beautiful family provided everything we could hope for in a homestay and much more. The amenities were great including the cleanest rooms we had stayed in, hot water and reliable wifi, however what made our stay a highlight of our trip was the family’s genuineness and warm hospitality. As a host, Sunaina is organised, professional, responsive, a great cook and knowledgeable about the local area and its history. Her traditional South Indian cooking was so nourishing predominantly made with locally sourced organic produce such as eggs from her neighbour. In this real, homely environment, we often had spontaneous cooking lessons standing around the stove watching her make chapattis, chai or freshly caught Green Chromide fish wrapped in banana leaf (pollichathu, a must try!). The family were full of sightseeing recommendations, assisted with organising transport to and from the accommodation and organised tours for us. We also had access to their bicycles and spent hours exploring the Island, meeting so many welcoming, generous and curious residents. Our faces hurt from smiling so much! The island itself is stunning and the backwaters are picturesque, there’s amazing birdwatching from the hammocks set up by the river at the front of the property. What stood out for me was the family’s passion to share their culture and home life, and the generosity of their time. Our stay at Green Chromide Homestay was a complete joy, we will be back again. Sunaina and family, nandi! …
The only complaint I could make about our stay here is that we didn't stay for long enough. The location is great, right on the river and Sunaina and her family are so welcoming. From helping us with a connection from the airport, recommending activities as well as cooking delicious and authentic local food they really go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay. I would highly recommend this homestay, just make sure you have enough time to explore!
We did a wonderful canoe ride for around 2 hours and it was really peaceful - simply awesome. Great explanations and very kindly/friendly. I highly recommend this place and would love to stay there during night next time 😀 Thanks a lot & see you soon 🛶😍
I recently stayed for three nights at Green Chromide. Sunaina and her family were extremely friendly, helpful and worked very hard to ensure a perfect stay. The rooms are spacious, clean and they even provided hand soap! Rates are very reasonable, and the food was very good. Make sure you explore the Island on a bike, and don't forget to visit the 'Mocktail' juice maker, his juices are amazing. Cheers, Christopher Bennett.
The family was lovely and went above and beyond to make our stay as pleasant as possible. All the meals were cooked by the family and it was an authentic Indian experience. We got to try a lot of Keralas special meals and food. The family showed us across the village and even helped us with booking tickets to the train. We loved our stay there and will definitely come back.
