One night stay during walking holiday. Walked to the hotel from Laon, what a wonderful looking building to see after a long walk. Found the proprietor, an old guy speaking not a word of English, we got by on my broken French, he is so friendly and easy to like despite the language difficulties. Showed us to a wonderful large... We stayed at Le Clos for one night at the end of April. We received a charming and friendly welcome (we speak some French, not sure how well the host and hostess speak English) and a choice of two ensuite rooms. Both rooms were nicely decorated in typical French 'toile de jouy' style, with a tiny ensuite shower room tucked... More

Our stay was good overall, breakfast was ok, lovely little plums in a dish and no packet croissants thank goodness. The room was lovely, spacious and the children thought it was wonderful. Yes the decor is a bit shabby, but we felt it added to the character of the place. We spent the evening in the local restaurant, le petit... More

An easy run from Calais makes this an ideal place to stop before heading deeper into France. The chateau is typically French and easy to find. Our rooms were adequate and comfortable. WiFi was available to satisfy our teenage son. Owners were welcoming and helpful. Have to agree with other comments regarding the breakfast (burnt croissant), but it's inexpensive and... More

A good rural French B&B offers a cheerful welcome, good food, basic but comfortable accommodation and good value. Le Clos does offer quite good and spacious accommodation, if at the shabby end (even by gite rural standards), but just doesn't get there otherwise. Of course you take the rough with the smooth, but the review below is right, it is... More

We very much enjoy our stays here. M & Mme are charming, down to earth hosts. The place is beautifully located; a little decrepit, but then you can get a bit sick of the Homes & Gardens photo-shoot B&Bs run by designer couples. We have also eaten dinner here a couple of times and it has been good if unexceptional,... More

Comfortable room - immense - and good breakfasts. Friendly family. Lovely countryside. Peaceful. Excellent simple restaurant within walking distance in village (La Petite Campagne) - the family weren;t doing evening meals for visitors when we were there. We will be back!

This 300-year-old family home is every francophile's dream of a country house 'dans son jus', set in peaceful, gently undulating countryside and very conveniently located for the A6 motorway (2 1/4 hours from Calais). The modest, but delightful owners, M & Mme Simmonot, will significantly warm to those who make the effort to speak to them in French. They have... More

Having stayed happily at many B&Bs in France over the past 20 years, I found this one pretty rough. And not in a good way. There seems to be one nice room in the place--Iris--but the others are a worst-of-both-worlds combination of old and new: the old stuff is shabby without charm, and the new stuff is ugly and seemingly... We stopped just overnight here on the way to visit friends further south. If we had not been committed I am sure we would have stayed longer. The owners are absolutely charming and are very proud to welcome you as guests in their beautiful home. It should best be described as "shabby chic" but it is very clean and also... More
