Just visited this hotel for lunch for first and last time. Service was extremely slow. I ordered a goats' cheese and red onion tart. This was simply a pastry case filled with cooked red onion with a couple of small slices of cheese on top. The whole thing was approximately the size of a strawberry tart and was accompanied by... We have had the most lovely couple of days away in thornhill staying at this fantastic hotel. The bedroom was huge well decorated and very comfy beds, furnishings were perfect and bathroom fabulous walk in shower and big bath, the molten brown toiletries were a lovely touch and Egyptian cotton fluffy bath towels and robes spotlessly crisp and clean very nice... What a lovely little hotel. Our room was spacious and had been refurbished. The food in the restaurant was reasonably priced and excellent quality. Between 4.30 and 6.30pm they do a main course and drink for £7.50, which is superb value. All staff were really nice, polite, friendly and helpful, especially Lauren and Emma.

The room, in the court yard took my breath away...a king sized bed, bright red walls and loads of sockets for phones/computers/hair dryer/straighteners. The bathroom was a stunning wet room with travertine tiles and a rain style shower. Comfy bed and loads of space for the dog beds. We ate in the bar because of the dogs who were welcome... More

Stayed here with my wife and our 2 dogs, room (in the courtyard) was lovely, massive bed, palatial bathroom. Food (we ate in the bar) was nice. Great value, friendly staff, nice breakfast, will definitely come back.

On arrival this felt rather like rooms over a pub (maybe as there is no formal reception & you have to go to the bar). However the room was really lovely, luxury shower room was very modern & spotlessly clean, with the extra bonus of a bath in the bedroom! It felt very new, although apparently not - which is... We booked into the hotel as a stop off on our journey home from scotland. The accommodation is first class with lots of special extras making it just perfect. We had our two labradors with us and arrived wet through after a wet day visiting dumfries but nobody complained as we made our way up to our room. The staff... More

Friendly restaurant, tho food quality was abysmal! My "rare" burger was well done, and my baked Alaska might've come straight from FarmFoods!! My companions were not spared either... one's pasta carbonara had NO carbonara! Another's ice-cream sundae was all melted and sloppy! A very disappointing meal!

We stayed for one night but would happily have stayed longer in this hotel. It is an old building but has been tastefully decorated with a quirky mix of old and new furnishings. Our bathroom looked brand new (we were told it wasn't so the cleaners are doing a grand job) with a fabulous shower and Molton Brown toiletries. We... More

We recently stayed here for two nights. Our accommodation was one of the refurbished semi detached 'cottage' bedrooms across the rear courtyard. We were in the 'room' named 'Shinnel'. It was a very spacious room with a pair of huge twin-linked beds and a large TV mounted on the wall although it didn't receive many channels and needed two different... More
