An epic start to our trip and a brilliant intro to the wilds of Costa Rica. The on-site bird watching tour was a big highlight and the kids even enjoyed thier first coffee cupping! The food, room and chess board kept us all entertained. Mega service to boot!

Hola Matt T, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts about your stay with us. We are so thrilled that you went on the bird watching tour with Ulises, who is obsessed with the 166 species we have here on our farm and around the Inn. As you heard when we talked, children in most of Latin America all start drinking coffee as infants, and it is a big part of their lives from that ;point on, and with our coffee, which is certified organic and grown with a regenerative agriculture focus, I think we might have given your children their first healthy coffee experience, and hopefully, they will return for more LOL! Thank you for mentioning the service, we are a three - generation Costa Rican family-owned business, and all of our staff are from the surrounding areas, and their sense of pride and place really shows in their love and care for our guests and the very personalized service they cherish. Please come back soon, and I am sure you will see many more bird species and can try one of the many different rooms we have!

After a long flight from London via Paris we arrived in San Jose at around 19.00hrs, we where promptly picked up and whisked off the Finca Rosa, about 30-40 mins away. We where greeted by the wonderful staff at check-in and taken too our room, well, what a loverly room, very large balcony, we could see the lights of the capital in the distance. We had booked in for 2 nights as our starting point to our first trip to Costa Rica. The room was very spacious and very clean, great bed as well. As you would expect the coffee in the room was amazing, actually the best I tasted on our 2 week trip (just wish I had purchased some to take home, my biggest mistake). The bar and restaurant where really good, and very well priced. All I can say is what a great place to stay, when I go back to CR I will make this my first point of call once again. Finca Rosa team, keep up the great work, a fantastic resort, thanks for looking after us so well.

Dear I_J, thank you so much for writing and sharing your experience with us. It really is always so wonderful to read our guests' reviews, and our staff always is delighted to read them as well. I am glad you liked our award-winning coffee-in October we won the World Coffee Challenge award for best organic coffee in the world, so we are delighted and our staff who do almost all the work are hyper proud as well. If you want to buy some via ecommerce, our representatives in the USA are Farm Cup Coffee and in Canada, Ingredients Natural. Again, we really appreciate you taking time to share your observations, and we all hope you will be back soon to see some of the upgrades we are making and go home with an armful of our organic coffee.

I had read about Finca Rosa Blanca so requested Trailfinders who organised our itinerary that we stay here for the last 2 nights of our 16 night tour of C.R. for some relaxation and luxury. We were collected at the SANSA terminal at SJO after flying in from Oso Peninsular, after a 30 minute journey arrived at Finca Rosa Blanca. On arrival the receptionist seemed a little overwhelmed as dealing with another guest who had arrived without a booking and then initially couldn't find our booking. However things were sorted after a while and after this everything was perfect. We were taken to the standard room in the main house we had booked called Valle. The main house has a feeling of Gaudi about it with few straight walls and beautiful murals on the walls. We had a huge bathroom with jacuzzi and shower. A sitting area with fridge and tea/coffee making. The bedroom had a large patio style balcony with views over the Central Valley to the mountains in the distance. We ate both breakfasts and dinners in the restaurant. The food was excellent and the wines ( unlike other hotels we stayed at ) reasonably priced. We took the coffee tour to the coffee farm which is part of the Finca. This was very informative and included coffee tasting; we learned so much about the androgenic farming process and the correct to prepare coffee. The grounds of the Finca were beautiful but what topped it off was the amazing swimming pool with views over the gardens and central valley. We were sad to leave for the transfer back to SJO airport for our flight home.

Hola Susan, thank you so much for sharing your experiences you had at our small inn. We really like how much you enjoyed the room “El Valle” so much, it certainly does have astonishing views down to the Central Valley, the coffee fields, the foliage, and then way off in the distance (15 km) the view of the western part of San José. As you probably noticed, there are some remarkable murals around, all painted by our friend and artist, Oscar Salazar, who lives very close by and has painted all the murals at the hotel inside and outside over the past 30 years. Your room has one of the best examples of these many murals outside on the large deck. Also, we want to thank you so much for your supportive remarks about our restaurant, which is not only a beautifully aesthetic setting - an outdoor thick covered terrace surrounded by tropical plants - but also there are various flowering plants that attract many butterflies and hummingbirds who love drinking and spending their day floating around the restaurant and enticing the visitors to stay and watch. All the food at the restaurant is prepared fresh and with our guests in mind, using traditional Costa Rican recipes that have been upgraded and changed in a creative way to reflect the kinds of foods that we can grow here in the coffee Highlands: tubers, herbs, greens, fruits, and so much more that all come directly from our organic greenhouse and farms to our diners. The coffee tour, as you know, is one of the highlights of staying at our small inn and going on the tour and experiencing what organic shade-grown permaculture looks like, this always adds to the pleasure and a sense of place in one of the most famous areas for superior coffee in the world. I hope you got to take some home with you to share with your friends and family. Again, thank you, Susan, for taking time to write about your experiences here, and we are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us so much, we hope you will return very soon!

Wow! What a beautiful property! Our room was so pretty. There was a separate room for my kids (bonus!). The decor was absolutely charming. The pool area looked like paradise, but we only stayed one night so didn't have time to swim. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food at the restaurant was excellent. I know some reviewers labeled it over-priced, but I thought it was completely worth it. I'm only sorry we couldn't have stayed longer!

Hola Cookie, thanks for sharing your experiences. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay with us and the room "La Ventana" is perfect for families with one or two children, as the parents get that luxurious king mattress with views out to the gardens and coffee tress below and yet apart from the kids, who are close enough to be part of the experience. I am sure you spent some time on the big terrace also watching the birds and the goings-on down in the central valley below. I will be sure to tell all the staff at the restaurant how much you liked the food- it is so important to them, and they are always checking the organic greenhouse and the fruiit trees, coffee and herb gardens constantly to insure that everything we serve is fresh and hof quality. Next time, please stay for more time, and try some of our activities, such as the wonderful coffee tour through our forest (which ends in a "cupping" to sample and understand about distinguishing between various types of coffees), or the Cultural Highlands Tour, which ends up at the Heredia Central Market, one of the oldest continuous under-roof huge central markets in the country. Really, it is a slice of Tico life and also full of things to sample. Again, thanks for taking time to write about your stay-we truly appreciate it!

I had a chance to stay at Finca Rosa Blanca recently. This was my second stay there and I love it! The room itself is artistic. I have had the chance to travel around the world and I have never seen a more unique hotel or Inn anywhere else (and I have stayed in some really fine hotels). The service is excellent, and the staff responsive to my needs. I also ate at the restaurant where the ambiance was amazing, and the food was very much 4 star quality.

Hola Patricia, thanks so much for taking the time to write about your stay (again) at Finca Rosa Blanca. All of us here are so thrilled to read your comments, especially about the service and staff, who, as you well know, are all local people who live in the surrounding area and take great pride in their land, their pueblo and their workplace. You are now one of our loyal repeat clients (friends!) and I hope to see you again soon visiting us, and hopefully, you will be able to try some of our other activities, including volcano visits, the Cultural Highlands Tour, which includes a visit to one of the oldest under one roof huge central markets in the small city of Heredia (only 15 minutes from our farm) and so much more! Thanks again for taking the time to share your experiences with us!

Great place to stay! Amazing food, not super cheap but reasonably priced, generally mostly locally grown right on the premises! Great coffee. Very charming, comfortable room and fun to walk around and lounge by the pool. Had a great coffee tour as well, learned a ton about coffee. Overall, would definitely stay at again if ever in the San Jose area and looking for a place to truly relax.

Hola Joseph, thank you so much for your kind comments and description. We are very pleased that you were impacted by our "farm to table" fare, as we have more than 30 acres of certified organic fruits, vegetables, herbs and tubers that are all grown for the restaurant and our guests. Of course, the majority of this land is covered with our shade grown coffee, but the symbiosis between the trees and plants with the coffee makes for delicious and healthy crops that we serve freshly picked (or roasted when referring to coffee, LOL). We are only 20 minutes from the International airport, and although we cannot see it or hear it, it makes for a nice transition from arriving straight to the coffee highlands of Heredia and the beautiful and lush mountainsides where we live and work. We hope to see you again soon, although we know it is a long trip from South Africa!

Disgusting. Stayed 1 night. Ventana suite bathroom drain overflowed with sewage into the room after flushing the toilet. Front desk sent staff to fix the problem, but the drain continued to gurgle loudly each time the toilet flushed. Will it erupt this time? Management refused to offer an alternate room and refused to talk about the problem face to face and instead offered a bag of coffee. So unless you don't mind sleeping a poop contaminated room please stay consider staying elsewhere. I have no idea why there are any good reviews.

Dear Edward, we are truly sorry you had this disturbing and unpleasant experience in your bathroom – although extremely rare, as our maintenance is constant, these very undesirable and surprising problems occur- and in this case, it turned out to be tree roots choking off the bathroom main pipe. Immediately, upon learning about it, we sent a team who resolved the problem: they finished repairing the pipe, cleaning, and sanitizing everything in thirty minutes. Ordinarily we would have not only changed your room but upgraded you as well, but unfortunately, this was not possible as we were at 100% occupancy. Again, we sincerely apologize, and we will use this here at the Inn as a learning experience on how we might have improved our resolution of this unpleasant experience for you and found amenable solutions. We understand and sympathize- for you it was an extremely unpleasant experience in our hotel, and again please accept our sincerest apologies.

We spent two days in FincaRosaBlanca before heading to Manuel Antonio. The resort is very unique and there is nature everywhere. We would like to highlight the coffee tour and the bird watching tour. The coffee tour was conducted by Paulo. My wife and I learned so much about coffee that it will probably change our coffee drinking habits for the rest of our lives. Paulo’s knowledge was in depth and broad at the same time and I felt compelled to take noted like a student in a classroom. I know it was not just me because our companion for the tour ( a guest from the East Coast in the US ) was also taking notes on her cell phone. It truly felt like a MasterClass on coffee. Strongly recommend. In addition, the coffee farm was beautiful. It is unusual in that it is a shaded farm and walking around was very pleasurable ( albeit still in the heat ). The bird watching tour was with Ulysses at 6 am. He was profoundly knowledgeable and found a number of species for us to see. We spotted a motmot, wild parrots and parakeets, several tanagers and flycatchers. It was really cool! The staff was very attentive and the serving staff at Tigre Vestido could not be nicer. The art around the property is very eye catching and the design of the house is quite distinct. It was a wonderful place to stay as our introduction to Costa Rica.

Dear HaiKerr, thank you so much for your detailed and ebullient remarks about our guides! Both Paolo and Ulises are experts in coffee and its history, development, and geography, but also they are so interesting when they begin to debunk certain myths, show us all how coffee is symbiotic with the surrounding organic flora and fauna. As you mentioned, the tour is one of education, wonder, an aesthetic journey through the forested coffee, fruit and other Costa Rican vegetation, and all ending up at our "beneficio" (processing plant) where you get to see and learn about the roasting and "cupping" of coffee. Together, they reflect our goals and love for our coffee culture, and everything we love about what we do and how to share it with our guests. Paolo is a biologist and very detail oriented when it comes to his beloved coffee farm, as is Ulises who also has the same adoration of birds. We have 166 species of birds that can be seen here and as you know, the early morning walk is replete with the viewing of dozens of birds in such a short time. Thanks again for taking time to share your feelings and experiences with us, and we hope to see you back soon!

Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Farm and Inn makes no qualms about why and how it is listed as one of National Geographic's unique lodges of the world! From the views to the service, to the coffee and the food, my one night stay was fantastic from start to finish! Check-in was efficient and I was quickly taken by golf cart to my room, Valle. Valle was a spacious room with a private patio and gorgeous views of the valley. I then headed to the restaurant for complimentary coffee and cookies! After getting settled I took a sunset dip in the pool and used the hot tub as well. I also took a short hike along some of the property trails. Then it was off to dinner at El Tigre Vestido! Dinner was delicious - I had the Tiger fish dish with the calypso puree...no idea what is in calypso puree, but WOW - YUM! Breakfast was equally as delicious and post-breakfast I took a 2 hour tour and tasting of the coffee farm side - I highly recommend...the tour was informative, beautiful and the perfect way to start a day! If you desire to breakout of the norm and avoid the typical airport hotel while in San Jose, Finca Rosa Blanca is a GREAT and UNIQUE option just 25 minutes from SJO airport. Skip the Hilton and Marriott and stay more local!!!

Thank you, Rdubbs08, for your detailed comments. I know it takes time to write and share your experiences, so we appreciate your taking the time. As you so kindly alluded to, we are a three - generation family run business and all of our staff are from the surrounding areas, so they take great pride in their home and the coffee highlands where we live, work and appreciate every day the splendors and beauty (and best climate!) of our coffee farms and forests here. And, as you said, we are only 20-25 minutes from the international airport, so after a long flight, it is great to be in paradise just a short time after landing. Almost all of our ingredients, greens, herbs, fruits and of course, coffee, are grown on our certified organic farms and are used in our restaurant, so when they get to your table they are fresh and healthy. We hope you will come and again and stay a few more nights and try some of our activities we offer, such as the Coffee Highlands Cultural Tour, hiking to Barva Volcano (Only 8 km from the inn), birdwatching (we have 166 species of birds to see right here on our farm!) and so many more.
