Relaxing getaway overlooking the city of San Jose. Unique and comfortable guest rooms with fresh coffee press. No clocks or TVs equals no stress. Watching the sunrise, many birds and butterflies was the perfect way to start the day. The morning breakfast was yummy and loved the traditional style menu dishes.

Hola Whirly3; Thank you for sharing your experience at Finca Rosa Blanca- it is so nice to get these reviews and our staff is always excited to hear about our guests' stay. As you so correctly said, our coffee farm and small inn is about de-stressing, enjoying the songs of the 130+ birds that live here and breathing in the oxygenated air that our organic farm and gardens gift to us. Costa Rica is the butterfly capital of the world- Costa Rica’s butterfly species make up approximately 90% of all Central American butterflies, 66% of neo-tropical butterflies and 18% of the world’s total butterfly species. Also, Chef Kevin was very pleased to read that you enjoyed the breakfast - we are dedicated to using local ingredients and grow almost everything on our farm or in our organic greenhouse. Thanks for writing about your stay and seeyou next time!

Our first night in Costa Rica. Extremely friendly staff, walked us to room, checked in efficiently. Couldn’t see the forest until morning. We are city close but country nonetheless. Breakfast was perfect, healthy and tasty. I cannot imagine a more perfect place to begin out Costa Rica adventure…

This place is amazing! Every inch of this property is curated to show off the natural beauty surrounding you. We had the privilege of being in the les aves suite so we had our own private backyard dripping with amazing plants and flowers to keep us company while we relaxed in our hot tub. Pablo was very helpful even during the planning stages of the trip. He arranged all of our tours and spa treatments. The front office staff were all really helpful and accommodating and one even rescued us from a (completely harmless) spider. Lol We went on two tours on the property with Ulysses. He’s worked here 9 years and knew absolutely everything about the property and the birds and plants there. The bird tour was so fun and we saw so many cool birds and butterflies and it was super neat to see how the coffee farm was run and to drink our coffee after! Yum! We had a glorious spa treatment which included a massage, a facial and a full body coffee scrub and wrap. Omggggg our skin has never been so bright and soft. Amazing and relaxing! Last but definitely not least, we did the chef’s tasting menu at the restaurant and omg, it was beautiful and interesting and delicious. Really much more than this city girl expected from a teeny kitchen by a volcano! We were really impressed with the freshness and flavors of everything including the wine pairing. The chef came out and chatted with us at the end and it was such a lovely night. A couple things to remember- it’s much cooler here than the beach, I wish I’d have packed more jeans, it’s the rainforest and there are bugs, bring bug spray! Overall we really enjoyed our experience here. It’s really a one of a kind place!

Hola, TraveledMoon; What a nice surprise to read your wonderful review, and of course we were all so pleased to hear in detail about so many of your wonderful experiences. Pablo in reception was so happy to know you enjoyed your stay so much and Ulises, the coffee guide, was grinning from ear to ear reading your remarks about his tour, and the same for Andrea at the Spa. Kevin Charpentier commented that the next time you come back, he wants to make you the coffee connoisseur's menu, creating new and innovative dishes all with coffee using our locally grown ingredients and spices. Thanks again for being so detailed about your stay, and we will be looking for you when you next visit our country.

What a fantastic first night in Costa Rica, kicking off our 10th Anniversary at Finca Rosa Blanca! This place is pure magic, run by lovely, thoughtful and hospitable people who work seamlessly to provide a wonderful atmosphere, excellent food and absolutely delicious coffee. From booking and their charming driver who picked us up at SJO (an EASY airport), to the beautiful room (El Cafetal) decorated with special touches-- and a fantastic view of San Jose in the distance-- this "hidden gem" is a memory to treasure. It also turned out to be well located in the authentic and interesting Santa Barbara neighborhood on the outskirts of the city. They also helped us coordinate the Adobe Car Rental delivery, and we had no problem driving north towards San Ramon and Arenal. ( WAZE works, and is a must have!)

Dear 325deec; Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your stay with us, and it is always such a nice treat for all of us to hear that you felt comfortable and pampered, as this is our goal. 100% of our staff (my wife and I the owners included) are local, and we take great pride in the coffee highlands and our wonderful community in our pueblo. The views (along with the wonderful coffee culture here) are what originally encouraged my mother to buy the property where the hotel is situated almost 40 years ago and since then we have continually added details, designs, artwork, local handicrafts and of course great food and magical experiences. Being only 20 minutes or so from the International airport has its advantages: we do not see or hear the air travel, but after a long trip to Costa Rica from North America or Europe, our guests have told us how great it is to land and in less than a half an hour be in paradise. And we feel the same way! Of course, we love to help our guests with whatever they need, be it a rental car, another hotel during their travels, and we have a no cost to you concierge service to help plan your trip from Costa Ricans who know all the best and authentic places to travel to and places to stay. Again, thank you for writing about your time with us in our beautiful country!

Finca Rosa Blanca is a beautiful place. Just a short distance from commercial streets of San Jose, it’s a multi-acre oasis of coffee farm and tropical plants. Walk between the accommodations and the reception/dining/shop area on a meandering path surrounded by trees, bird sounds, a fountain, and path to the pool. Watch out for the always-industrious leafcutter ants on the paths! It’s a hilly property and if you’re coming from a lower elevation area you might be huffing and puffing at first but it’s worth it. We stayed in El Cielo, which is a separate building close to the main lodging building. It’s totally private with huge spaces: bedroom with wet bar, coffee/tea, small refrigerator, safe, armoire, seating; up a few steps to an area that has more seating including a comfortable chair with ottoman; nice bathroom with two sinks and plenty of room to spread out, separate WC. The balcony off the bedroom area has two chaises with a small table between them and a jacuzzi tub. Some of the balcony is open air and some under roof. It’s surrounded by trees and bushes where you can relax, breathe deeply, and enjoy the bird song. More leafcutter ants trek up and down a couple of large trees within easy view. The dining at Finca Rosa Blanca is in an open-air restaurant with great views of the lights of San Jose at night. It’s also surrounded by trees and other plantings. The ambience is pleasant, seating is comfortable, staff is friendly, and the food is good with plenty of options. The gnocchi was excellent. In addition to the usual three meals a day, there is afternoon tea with sweets. Breakfast and the afternoon tea are included in the room rate. The owners and staff of Finca Rosa Blanca are all very nice. Covid protocols were good and everything was very clean. We did the two on-site tours: early morning birdwatching and coffee tour. Both were led by the same guide, who is excellent. It’s fascinating to learn about the birds, the forest, and the coffee process. We stayed here our first two nights in Costa Rica before heading to Monteverde, and it was a perfect way to start the trip. Definitely stay at least two nights so you can fully enjoy the place and the tours. A third night would be even better. We stayed again our last night in Costa Rica so that we’d be closer to the airport for an early morning flight but still in the midst of the country’s wonderful green areas.

Hola axasal; Thank you so much for this detailed review of Finca Rosa Blanca! And after just reopening at scale, it was doubly satisfying that your experiences were just as we would have wanted. The Cielo was built in 2015 in a spot that used to house the laundry area many years ago, but we realized ( a little late I know ha ha) that it had some of the best views of the whole farm and we put a lot of effort into making it not only a cozy, private and art filled room, but also build a balcony jutting out into the trees for birdwatching, viewing the central valley below or just relaxing in Costa Rican style. Our chef, Kevin Charpentier, is really an artist in the kitchen and I am sure you got to try several of his amazing farm to fork dishes. The sweets (muffins, breads or cookies) that we offer at coffee time int he afternoon are made partially with milled coffee fruit flour which has a wonderful and unique taste. Ulises, who we teasingly call "Mr. Coffee" is not only a wonderful and knowledgeable coffee guide, but he is also a great educator about organic agriculture, plant symbiosis ya d of course cupping techniques. I am glad everything went well for you, and as you mentioned, we are only 20 minutes to the International and National airports so it is an easy arrival and return place to stay AND, we will treat you as family. Again, thanks for taking the time to write about your stay!
