The location of the resort is beautiful. The beach is very clean and the view from the pool is stunning. The bartenders are heavy handed (Hey Rolinda!!) and keep the drinks coming quickly. Once you get past the front desk (with the exception of Jeanelle who could not have been nicer or more helpful and really made a huge difference), the staff is amazing! Mimi, Daisy and all the gang really put this resort on the map. The hibachi restaurant was the best (great work, Malik!) followed closely by Olio. The karaoke bar was a treat and way more fun than I expected. The price point IS a bit high but overall it was decent. Skip the pref'd club and skip the marina view. It was nice but it wasnt an extra 1k nice. ****AMERICANS!!! PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU INQUIRE ABOUT COVID TESTING UPON CHECK IN. MORE ON THIS IN MY SECOND REVIEW*****

We read a lot of reviews and thought about canceling. We are so happy we did not. We found the food to be good, the drinks goos and the service amazing. Elicit from Rondevous and Preferred Club offered the most amazing service and attitude. RoLinda, Claude and Kenny made the pool bars fun. Charmen at the breakfast and lunch service made me smile. Awesome service. Power on the entire Island went out. Not the resorts fault and so what. A lot of complainers but we were so grateful to spend our week here and we will be back!!!!

I would normally not leave a review on a property. I probably should with as much travel my wife and I do especially through the Caribbean and Europe. However this visit has led me to make a post on the experience. To start off positively...the manager on the site was exceptional. I'm upset that I cannot remember her name as we just left rhe facility. But she remembered us throughout the entire stay. She was extremely accommodating and truly had our best interests inheart. Also the vast majority of thr crew were friendly and pleasant throughout our stay. Now...again Secrets needs to step their game up. First off we got to do better. I know AMR resorts got plenty of money from the Hurricane Irma efforts and an additional stash with Covid Relief. Why does the outside of the hotel look dated and almost rundown? Also from a staffing perspective...why is every restaurant basically closed on the resort? We went to Barefoot Grille coming off our beach time the 1st day only to find it closed. We were speaking with a couple that had been there for a week and they said to us that the grille was closed their whole stay. And by time our time concluded.. the same had been true for us. Also no restaurant was open every day. Some were closed 5 of the 7 days. And the food was edible at best. There is a French influence on the property and none in the food. Furthermore...how is all of the food cold and overcooked? The dining experience was further exasperated by the lack of quality options at any during the day. I literally had a cold hot dog and cold burger right at the beginning of lunch. My wife wanted room service at around midnight...no me us in the room to order and guess what...you guess it...it was closed at midnight. Makes no sense that at an adults only resort we cannot get food at midnight. For lunch my wife and I ended up walking down Anse Beach to a restaurant om the other side of Secrets and had lobster that we literally picked out of the water and was served a meal that was well worth the $100. And to think I almost bought the candlight dinner on the beach to have an overcooked steak, a tiny piece of overcooked lobster that would have almost double that price. Also there was hardly any activities on the resort. There was a random game of bingo at the beach but nothing to engage the guests. We've been to 15 different resorts over the past 6 years and have traveled throughout Covid every place we've been has had plenty of activities available throughout the day. Even in the heart of Covid. And the night time entertainment with a karaoke singer as a performer...made absolutely no sense. An easy way to get the guests involved more would have been to have a karaoke night. Probably would have been more entertaining. Lastly the rooms. I must say that I understand that island was hit hard by Irma. I know there was a lot of damage and was going to take a lot of resources to get back to normal. But there was clearly paint over mold residue. I even seen some old mold on the trash cans outside. And why is my TV in the room not centered on the wall properly? And why is all of the channels not available in the room. I wanted to watch the game in the room and the channel was blocked out. And I couldn't leave the room to watch the game...why...you guessed it...the sports bar was closed. Overall, I blame AMR and Secrets for the experience. In March we stayed in Secrets in Puerto Vallarta and the resort was beautiful and the food was delicious. The restaurants were open and we had breath taking views throughout. I came back to St. Martin because I brought my wife here for her birthday a few years back and stayed at Sonesta Ocean Pointe and the resort was amazing. We loved the water views and since we decided to become members in March we said St. Martin should be a great option. Ended up being an overpriced underwhelming experience. It's sad because the island is beautiful and Secrets should be better than what they've shown.

The resort is located on the other side of the hustle and bustle of the island which meant it seemed like a true vacation! Melinda the hostess was completely awesome, Ivan was great with organizing the pool volleyball, and Margarita who served drinks at the pool was an absolutely beautiful soul inside and out!! There were others too who made our vacation great despite the city workers breaking a water main and the hotel's backup system not working for at least 20 straight hours. They all took our minds off of the water issue and were very hospitable! Would love to return someday! Ron S. Carmel, IN

After spending a week at Secrets here are my thoughts: FOOD: A lot of reviewers have not enjoyed the food, my husband and I really enjoyed it (especially the French restaurant Olio- get the steak & creme brule and enjoy the sunset view). The buffet was also quite good. We were able to snag a spot at the teppanyaki table but were let down compared to our expereinces at other resorts where there was guest involvement; here we were just watching someone cook our food for us. Still yummy though. Due to staff shortages only a couple restaurants were open every night… fine by us as the food was good everywhere and service was speedy. ROOMS: We specifically booked an ocean biew room however we were informed afterwards that there are no ocean view rooms available. I thought this meant that they were all booked but after being at the resort for a week we realized that there arent avtually any rooms facing the ocean. Seems like a missed opprotunity, they have staircases facing the oceans instead of rooms… Because we were not able to get the room we paid for they “upgraded” us to the Preffered Club. Still not sure what that means as it appeared that everyone had access to the same ammenities as us, dont bother with the upgrade. Our room itself was quite nice, a nice view of the mountains and resort as a whole. We had a couple ants but nothing major. ACTIVITIES: I know this location isnt know for being super lively but wow… There was a daily sheet provided with a list of activities and NOTHING HAPPENED! We would wait at the scheduled location where activies were supposed to take place (eg aqua bike, aqua gym) and nobody showed up. We did this for 4 days straight and never once did the activity happen. After 4 days the bikes were actually removed from the pool yet it was still listed on the activity sheet for the day. The nightly entertainment was fine, just a solo singer who would repeat a lot of the songs that the singer from the previous day wiuld do. POOL/BEACH: These areas are nice, we never had issues getting chairs/towels/umbrellas. In fact, most days the areas were deserted! In our week stay we were only apporached once to ask if we wanted a drink, which is fine as we have no problem going to the bar ourselves, but I know some people missed this luxury. OTHER: Halfway through our stay the entire district that the resort was located in was without water. No taps, no toilets, no showers, no hot tub etc. To say it was gross would be an understatement. To be clear, this was not the resorts fault, the water was out in sureounding areas too, but theresort could have definetly handled the situation better. Some guests who were lucky enough to have a swim up pool were taking water from their pool to fill their toilet tanks so they could flush…. Perhaps resort staff could have been doing this too instead of having every single toilet im the resort left in unspeakable conditions. There was also no acknowledgment from the resort about this at all, every person there was spendkng hundreds of dollars for the day and still didnt have access to running water!!!!! Overall, it was an alright resort. I think a lot of the issues were due to staff shortages so hopefully they can invest in more resources to get the place up to its full potential.

Greetings Ccaps13 Thank you for sharing your impressions and kind comments. We are truly grateful to read that you really enjoyed the food in the restaurants, the pool and beach was nice. We do appreciate your feedback however there seems to have been a number of deficiencies encountered which are very atypical and not reflective of our brand experience. Since your stay stay was marred by irregular circumstances, we can only renew our apologies and assure you that all your feedback has reached our Management to work in our opportunity areas, and we have in the meantime briefed the team at great length of your comments. Once again, we thank you for taking the time to share your overview with us. Sincerely, Iliana Perez Social Media Coordinator

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Secrets St. Martin Resort & Spa, and it was an AMAZING experience. I should've written my review closer to the time we spent, but better late than never. I find myself thinking back to this trip often. Where to start? We selected to be picked up from the airport via the resorts Boat option. Talk about VIP entrance, we were the only 2 on the boat! This is how you start a vacation. We were greeted with Champagne as we waited to check-in, made friends quickly with the staff, our concierge was amazing her name started with a J, but she knows all the fun things to do and great staff to meet. Shout out to ( Claude, Guillome, & Sunshine). If you are kind and ready to be on a vacation people will be kind to you. Our room was awesome we selected the swim up pool suite. The views were immaculate, the food always tasty, and the drinks kept flowing. The bartender, Juju was hilarious and we were always excited to see her working. The karaoke entertainment ran by an associate who's name starts with a "Y" was always a fun place to start the evening with, he became a friend to us too. This trip was hands down one for the books, Claude & Guillome really treated us well and went above and beyond to make our Honeymoon special. I remained right on the edge of wanting to tell everyone about how good this trip was or wanting to keep it a secret for just us. Regardless, they deserve all the praise from our stay. I wish I remembered everyone's name , that is my only regret. Also, If you plan a stay there is no Uber or Lyft on the island so bring money for a Taxi.

At first when u arrive the place looks amazing. Then a day or two into the stay u see the holes in the side walks, the bird poop on the railings, The Luke warm shower water. The food was OK-Marginal They said top shelf liquors and didn’t even have Crown or Chivas As for the Island - liter and hurricane abandoned houses everywhere. BASICALLY a third world country!

This “resort” is an abomination. Absolutely disgusting. The food, the service, the accommodations. Today, no running water all day. Guests are forced to use toilets that have been used over and over by everyone and not flushed for hours. You can’t wash your hands. Good thing we are recording our temperature every morning to prevent the spread of Covid. The food has made us sick every time we’ve eaten here so, mostly we just don’t. We have spent more money getting taxis to leave and eat elsewhere than we spent to stay here. We spent 2 days over the weekend trying to leave which the manager made impossible. You would be insane to stay here.

AMR needs to invest more money into the facilities. If you choose to stay at Secrets St. Marteen, there is mold in the rooms on the first floor, so dont stay on the first floor. The television channels are blurry. The wifi internet access doesnt stretch far. Most of the restaurants are closed. The food was bland. Our in-room safe was broken. What made our trip palatable was the friendliness of the staff. They tried their best to respond to all of our complaints, however they can only work with what they are given. It appears that the owners of this resort have given up on it and chose to let it go. The many issues in the resort are not due to staff failures, but more so lack of investment.

It started off on a bad note and didn’t improve much as the week went on. We arrived on a Saturday. Check-in process was painfully slow. We did a lot of waiting around and I am not sure why as there were only a few guests waiting to check-in and there appeared to be enough staff to take care of us. Our room was not ready as we did arrive early at 13:30. Reception suggested that we go have lunch poolside and come back at 15:00 to get our room. I had to track down a bellman myself to store our luggage. When we came back at 15:00, it took another 40 minutes to get our key and, again, I had to find a bellman to get our luggage. We had a king suite, ocean view apparently. I guess you could see the ocean if you looked around the corner. It was more like a garden view. Our room was not luxurious by any means and smelled rather musty. For the first couple days, we did not see any grounds keepers and found dirty drink glasses on our journey from room to pool/beach. They were finally picked up on Tuesday when we saw people tending to the grounds. I was hopeful that the food was going to make up for our underwhelming first impression of the resort. Sadly, it did not. Indeed, there are three sit down restaurants but they rotate when they are open. Two of the seven nights we were there, only the cafeteria style Market Café restaurant was open for dinner. Of the three sit down dinners we ate, one was great, one was mediocre and the third was awful. Regarding the food, we must compliment the pastry chef – the pastries were delicious! We did thoroughly enjoy room service for breakfast every day on our balcony – freshly cut fruit with a delicious selection of pastries/bread. Coffee was great! We did also order a couple of cheese plates during our stay which were excellent. The house Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc wines were decent. Food and drink offerings at the Coco Café were also excellent. We did enjoy the pool. The water was cool and refreshing. The bartenders were great, however, we rarely had chair service. We had to go get drinks ourselves. The beach was nice though umbrellas were at a premium. The resort is in a cove so no long walks along the beach here. We only found out on our second to last day that we had access to paddle boards and kayaks. Yes, there was nightly entertainment from 20:00-22:00. After that, you could do some karaoke until 23:30 if you could find some people who wanted to sing. They did not play music in between karaoke singers. The sound really carries in the resort so things shut down at 23:30. Not great for those who want to party a little later! This was our first visit to a Secrets Resort. The experience has left us uninterested to visit another. Our expectation was high, given the price we paid. There is much work to be done if you want to continue to market this as a Secrets Resort.
