Travelers' Choice
La Folie Lodge is located on Don Daeng island, facing the sandy beach, Mekong river, and the sacred mountains home to the Vat Phu temple, a UNESCO World heritage site. The Lodge features charming bungalows and private villas which blend with the incredible nature of the island. All the rooms offer a private balcony overlooking the Mekong River. The amenities in-room are organic and made in Laos. The restaurant of La Folie offers comfort western food and traditional lao cuisine, at the terrace, by the pool, or under the roof of the Lodge. The pool is right where it should be, facing this very unique sunset from Don Daeng island. La Folie Tour Desk offers numerous excursions and activities, thanks to its unique location in between the best sites of Southern Laos. Private boats and drivers are available for full day excursions right from the Lodge. By staying at the Lodge, the guests support the development of the island, and can witness it by cycling around and visiting the projects.

Hotel's Favorite
We spent 3 days here, two of which were filled with a very busy itinerary, and I agree with another reviewer who suggested spending more time just to enjoy the property, which is so very lovely, as well as to explore the island and its villages and temples, either by bicycle or on foot. All bungalows have a view of the Mekong and a porch where you can sit and enjoy it. The room is charming, and the stone paths between the bungalows wind through lush tropical gardens. The beautiful pool area, surrounded by mature trees and flowering plants, overlooks a wide beach along the Mekong, and the path to the water is illuminated at night by paper lanterns. Every excursion, whether to Don Khon and the 4,000 Islands or to the waterfalls and coffee plantations of the Bolaven Plateau, begins with a 20 minute boat ride during which you can relax and take in the river views. If you time your return just right, you will be dazzled by the sunset...the sun reflecting on the water with the purple mountains in the distance as a backdrop. At Happy Hour, the waitstaff will serve you a cocktail on the secluded patio, or poolside at a table overlooking the river before you enjoy a delicious dinner in the open air dining room. There is a wide selection of both Asian and western dishes, something to satisfy everyone. The portions are quite generous, so be aware of that when you order. The staff...the boat drivers who also transport luggage from your room to the boat (no easy task!), Monsieur, the manager; Bee, the receptionist; Nicky, and the other dining room staff...all are friendly, cheerfully offering their help and service with a smile. This is a unique spot which will make unforgettable memories for every visitor.

We came to La Foile for a day tour biking around Dong Deang island. It has a range of accommodations that are built in traditional Laos wooden style house, accommodating 2 -4 people We had a lovely welcome drink and an introduction to the island and different bike routes by the hotel staff. We had a great time riding around in the beautiful village with very friendly and welcoming villagers. We enjoyed a very nice swim and delicious 3 courses meal If I am back to the area, I will definitely stay here

Overlooking the long beach of Don Daeng Island, the lodge is very peaceful and relaxing. The lodges are made entirely of simple wood but well furnished with a nice terrace overlooking Mekong. The swimming pool is beautiful. Excellent welcome with the staff who take care to pick you up with the lodge boat either in Champask or at the pier arriving from road 13. Good food with the possibility of changes from the menu upon advance request. For those wishing to use the bicycles of the lodge it is possible to travel around the island where cars are prohibited. For the more adventurous, the staff transports you by bike by boat to Chapasak to reach the temple of Wat Phu. Thanks to the manager who due to a small problem, then solved, at the swimming pool, not usable on our arrival, offered us a bottle of wine for dinner. Highly recommended for those wishing to spend a few relaxing days.
